With my son currently enrolled at Duke University, I am thankful for the direct flights & no fee flying that Southwest offers. However, I was completely blown away this past week when a 'weather alert' was posted for the Raleigh/Durham area and Southwest REALLY showed how much of a no fee airline they are.
My son was scheduled to fly into RDU on Tuesday Jan 11, as flights in the southeast area were being canceled/delayed due to the weather. After taking a look at the local weather forecast, I found that the worst weather for the RDU area would be on Tuesday - the day of his flight! It was now Sunday night, around 10:30pm and I was in panic mode. I went to the Southwest website and clicked on the weather alert link. There I found that we could change his flight to Monday morning, avoiding the upcoming inclimate weather - AT NO CHARGE... not even the fare difference!! I was amazed.
Although we now had only 7 hours to prepare for his flight, I was so relieved to know that he would not be flying during the snow & ice storm that was approaching. We would not have been able to afford the fare difference to change it otherwise, and I cannot thank Southwest enough for having such a wonderful policy.
Thank you,
Duke Mom
