My home / work phone is a VOIP connection via my computer. I use a headset plugged into my computer to make telephone calls with a mic on my headset.
I am Deadset against people using cell phones in-flight, as my pov is that I want a quiet flight once the door closes at the gate.
However, I have to tell you, with internet connectivity, I would be very tempted to fire up my computer and make phone calls although I know I shouldn't because I talk to loud.
I love VOIP. I am never going back to a regular phone again.

Hello,
I flew over the holidays FLL-ISP and back. On the outbound out of FLL, that flight was my first experience with the new boarding procedure. Arriving at the gate, I just sat down and hung out because everything I heard was that you "Don't have to line up anymore". Well prior to boarding my flight, NO gate announcements were made as to what to do. Zero, nada, nothing. It was awful. All of a sudden an announcement was made for preboards, anyone needing assistance, then the agent call "All A's". No one in the A group was lined up - all of a sudden we were all running to try and find out spot and move towards the gate door. It was a fiasco. FLL needs a lot of help.
ISP on the other hand was fantastic! When I arrived for my return flight, I went to the gate area, and about 45 minutes prior to the flight the gate agent made numerous, informative announcements. I was stunned by the night and day difference between FLL and ISP.
Personally, I would rather just cattle call / line up and sit on the floor and read a magazine like in days past.

I like how SWA.com has started to evolve/update the website, but one question. When is the web team going to take the enhancements we see on the main landing page and incorporate them throughout the website? Hopefully soon. I also agree with one of the bloggers that posted a comment above, SWA.com is by far one of the easiest (if not the easiest) airline travel website to use in cyberspace.
Thank you for making the website so functional and easy to use.

I live in Hermosa Beach, CA ( about 6 miles south of LAX ). Here, in this area (and maybe all of Los Angeles) you can't start your day without a smoothie from Jamba Juice or Robek's. It's a way of life out here. Forget starbucks in the morning. Fruit smoothies are the way to go (and so much better for you!)

I also enjoy reading very very much. In fact, I share a trait with capt evans, that I too, must have/own/keep a book because I love to re-read some of them every so often. I think one of my favorites of all time is Steinbeck's "East of Eden". To me, it is a literary masterpiece. It is timeless and very enjoyable to read. In fact, I bought it in paperback that last time it was re-released and one day while I was sitting at a coffee shop reading it, I spilled coffee on the book ( on the pages inside ). I thought I was going to have a heart attack. But after thinking about it and knowing that I was going to be keeping this copy till my last days walking the earth, that minor coffee spill is going to remind me of the first time I re-read this book in paperback format. It will remind me of what I was doing at that point in time. So to me books are also a remembrance. Every day, I enjoy looking at all my books in my bookcase at home; knowing that I have the opportunity to re-read anyone of them whenever I want too!
If you haven't read "East of Eden", run out right now and grab a copy wherever you can - new, borrowed, etc..... It is one of the greatest books of all time!

Islip without a doubt. The SWA terminal is new, clean, fresh, and easy to use. Not to mention Islip is such an easy airport to navigate into and out of and it is very very close to major roads on Long Island. Now I hope SWA will incorporate a nonstop between LAX and ISP. The angelenos are waiting patiently!

When is the SWA IT Dpt going to finish revamping the SWA Website. Everyone on the blog made such a big deal about how the "New Website" looks when in fact, only the main page has been redone - not a complaint - just have been 'randomly' wondering why everyone was so excited about one page of a website being redone. I haven't seen that much excitement since Coke launch Cherry Coke!

Why does one SWA flight attendant give out two bags of peanuts, while another one only gives out one bag. I watched this last nite from vegas to LA and pondered that thought.

For any of you who haven't hit 40 yet - beware - after the 40, you WON'T be able to bounce back from hangovers like you use too. Otherwise I think life is great after 40. I would never want to go back to my 20's and 30's - life keeps getting better as you get older...............................

On the topic of TV Shows, are we every going to see another season of Airline?? I would love to see another season at my home airport - LAX. They need to get a shot of that bird that has been living and flying around inside Terminal one for years! If anyone of you have spent time at LAX Terminal one, you know the bird I am talking about. This is a late reply to this post but I would like to say one thing. If that non PHL SWA employee thinks the SWA culture has gotten so bad, that employee should just quit and seek employment elsewhere. He/she would be happier and that persons negative persona wouldn't be impressed upon other employees. That negative employee leaving the company would be like getting rid of a bad disease, cyst, blood blister, etc......!
This suggestion is for any company with a negative employee.

OK, enough about Dallas today. I have asked for this before. ---> Southwest needs to start an LAX-ISP nonstop flight. No competition and they would make $$$ (alot of $$$ off that route). The majority of passengers on the AA, DL, UA nonstops out of JFK are from Long Island. I personally have to go east of ISP when I go to long island to visit family (often) and it is a real drag to fly into kennedy and rent car there where it is more expensive than ISP. ISP is just so much easier. The southwest connections or direct flights aren't bad, but I think there is opportunity here. I hope some of you southwest employees see this, stratch your head, go yeah that is a good idea, and pipe it up the food chain!
Thanks for letting me speak!

Hi Bloggers! OK - so this post got off a little topic but I would like to respond with a few coments to the SW folks in this blog space..
1. I think your seats are really comfy. Even on long flights cross crounty they remain comfortable and the legroom is great too.
2. Please don't go to assigned seating! This will slow down the boarding process! And on any southwest flight, I rarely see anyone stomp there foot when they end up with a middle seat. They take it knowing A. they were probably one of the last people to check in for the flight so they got a C for Center, or B they are traveling together with someone and the two people want to sit together.
3. The Southwest reward program is VERY liberal! Yes I know there are some rules now regarding seating capicity, etc.... but there is NO other airline that gives you the freedom to book an award ticket a day before you want to travel (if the seat is available) for no charge! Biggie airlines charge you fees if you are within a three week window to use award tickets. Shame on them.
4. Hooray for Southwest for thanking them on getting to an award ticket with a drink coupon book. Could you imagine a trunk carrier doing that? The execs at those airlines would probably have heart failure.
With Southwest, I know what to expect, I know what I get when I fly, I take my drink coupon book, and behave myself upstairs!
Thank you.

Is it bad of me to say the Airport series (75,77,etc..) was my favorite? I bought the box dvd set of all 4 movies. And I did not buy it for the "disaster aspect of the movie. I bought it because, thinking back as an example to Airport 75, the movie illustrates that even if an airplane/airliner experiences some type of "situation" in the air, that bird is still going to fly! And it is Safe! I was rooting for the 747 to get on the ground in SLC in that movie
Personally I say this everyday, I feel safest in the air - for example even last nite (ironically to my paragraph above) when I flew WN from SLC to LAX and their were storms in the area. I had no fear of getting on the plane !
Everyone have a great weekend!

Thanks for the re-assurance about diverts and diversions. I am a very frequent flyer and love to fly and there have only been a few times we have had to divert back to the departure airport. A few years ago during thanksgiving, I was returning from Oahu on a late afternoon flight to LAX. Upon leaving HNL I felt our 767-300 losing altitude about 10 minutes into the flight and knew something was up. about 5 minutes later, the cap'n came on and told us our back up hydraulic system was not operating and that we needed to return to HNL - the cap'n didn't want to take any chances heading out over the ocean with only one hydraulic system. The bummer was we needed to circle Oahu for about 45 minutes to burn enough fuel to land safely - We landed safely but there were some passengers that thought for sure we were going into the pacific for a swim! It's safer than driving!
