Jill, how funny that you should ask about Second Life. My daughter works in the technology department of a large university, and she frequently conducts training sessions, teaching faculty and staff how to utilize the various Internet and computer-based functions and programs. One class she teaches is Second Life. Her university actually made a financial investment in this!

Wow, Brian (aka Clot Boy)! Take it easy and take really good care of yourself. I'm praying for a quick recovery and good health for you. Don't rush back to work too soon...you've got some healing to focus on.

Wow! I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat as I read this.
I knew there was a lot involved in getting a plane down safely in less-than-ideal weather, but I really appreciate knowing just how much really does go on! It never occurred to me that lightning storms in the area would pose such a risk to the baggage handlers. too. It's good to be reminded of the validity of the behind-the-scenes delays.
Your last lines also provide a little "ammo" for me as my husband and I are sitting down tonight to plan a trip during Nov. or Dec. I'd rather fly (MCO to BNA and back); he prefers to drive.
Thanks for all that you ALL do!

This is why I LUV SWA!
I was 40 years old before I boarded my first plane. I was given a choice of staying home or accompanying my husband and our friends on my dream vacation to the Florida Keys. I was terrified and nothing could have pried my fingers from the armrests.
I've flown many times since then, and I'm scared half to death each time, but I force myself to get on that plane. The FAs on SWA are marvelous about providing distractions (the jokes, the songs, etc) and that helps immensely. I love the pilot chatter, too. Whatever you all can do to put us at ease, I appreciate more than you know.
Thanks, Ray, for this great post!

What a great way to show appreciation to just one of thousands of young men and women who are serving our country. It's too bad this can't be done for each and every one.
Thanks, Francisco, for being one of many to stand up for all of us at home. We appreciate all you do.

Happy Anniversary, Southwest.com! My hubby and I observed this anniversary by going online last night (on March 17th) and purchasing a couple of round-trip tickets. We're looking forward to a nice little flight from MCO to BNA and back again! We LUV flying with SWA!
I also just read Jeff Bailey's article on Fred Taylor and SWA and their remarkable customer service techniques. SWA is our air carrier of choice, and it makes me proud just to be a passenger. Thanks for running an excellent company!

Two different flights come to mind. One, upon leaving LAS, our SWA pilot took us over the Grand Canyon on a beautiful, sunny day. That was my first-ever time to see the Grand Canyon...it was amazing! (Flying into LAS at night was equally amazing but for completely different reasons!) The second memorable view was upon leaving SEA - I was thrilled to be sitting at the window when the plane made a long, slow swoop around Mount Rainier...even from the plane window, that mountain is BIG!
I'm not a fan of flying, but I enjoy the distractions when we have great views and a little pilot chatter to tell us where we are and what we're seeing.
