Sounds like a great way to complicate boarding, and lose SW's competitive advantage of short turnarounds.
It's not opening night at the opera, folks. It's a bus.

HI Carole, thank you for your article! I was wondering if you could help! I had an interview scheduled for today and I never received the call...does this mean that SWA has changed their mind? I called the recruiter and left a message and emailed but no response. Can you help? I would appreciate it so much!

Thought for the day: Why is called a card table when it's not made out of cards? It has to be because people play cards on it, but sometimes they may eat off of a card table. Well, really, they eat off plates/ out of bowls set on the table. I know, I come up with the weirdest thoughts!

I have been flying from Florida to Philadelphia almost every month
in the past year and have been very satisfied with the service on
Southwest. I do not understand, however, why you do not permit
small pets in underseat carriers. I was trying to earn free flights, but
now, I can no longer use your airline as I have a toy poodle that has
to travel with me when I plan to stay a few weeks.

Nice because you have shown pictures. That is very effective tool. Mr. Malone is so oriented to his peers that he even mentioned the birthdays of Art and Jeff. I hope next time you could make the pictures larger.

James,
I have cooked at the Dallas Ronald McDonald House, and it is such a rewarding evening. I never cease to walk away with amazement over what the House staff can accomplish and also with empathy for the families. These families could be anyone of us, and the Ronald McDonald Houses are a great place for which anyone can volunteer.

I think you need to look look at the pre-boarding policy again. It is much easier when traveling with children to get on the plane first and get settled. After all the parents and kids are on the plane, the others can see where all of the kids are and choose to sit far away from them. I think you will be getting a lot of complaints about this change. A change that is not for the better!

Francisco - No, I didn't see your sister ship. But I did manage to enjoy one of the best lobster tails I've ever had over at the Fish Market. It was a 10 oz. mesquite grilled with some baby asparagus and saffron rice. It was DELICIOUS!!

One small correction, if the rest have A boarding passes, they can board with the A group. Depending upon the flight, it is still possible to get an A checking in at the airport.

James, delighted to read your comments! My wife and I are both Flight Attendants and we each use CrewColdStorage.com foodbags.
We've enjoyed them for two years and not only does the bag's features allow us to take great food with us on the aircraft, but if we have a BUR layover on a Friday night, we shop at the Farmers Market the next morning and bring all those fresh fruits and veggies back home to MDW in the same foodbag!!!

Just wanted to know when/if you are ever going to start service to Charleston, SC.
It is very costly to fly to the city, and to my knowledge SWA doesn't fly to South Carolina AT ALL?
What's the deal??
Thank you!

Let's make airline tickets equitable!
The huge increase in the cost of fuel that has led some airlines to add fees for the extra weight of baggage underscores the fact that ALL airplanes must have the weight of their entire contents calculated in order to operate within the designed weights and balance of the aircraft.
It is understandable that passengers should pay for the cost of carrying their baggage. Meanwhile, the cost of carrying the combined weight of the passengers is calculated by using an average weight and multiplying this average times the number of passengers. The increased obesity of the general population has caused airlines to increase that assumed average weight factor. This is grossly unfair to the people whose weight is average, or below average. These people are subsidizing the ticket price for the people who are above average weight.
We pay for most of what we purchase based on the quantity of what we are purchasing (gallons of milk, six packs, cartons, dozens, Etc). This is unit pricing.
Why do we accept paying for an airline ticke based on the average of the cost assumed to be encountered by the airline? Why don't the airlines simply apply the weigh-in process being used for baggage to BOTH the baggage AND the passenger? Is that not the most fair thing to do? Have the ticket price set as a cost per pound of both the passenger and the passenger's baggage? This would be a huge benefit for parents when paying for children, for passengers with no chedck-in bags, and so on.
Comparisons of airfares would be the same process that we encounter in the grocery store - - - unit pricing ($/lb).

James,
I guess I should feel lucky. So far, my older sister (by 6.5 years) has only gotten on the blog twice, but both times, she was complimentary. She could tell some tales herself, although they would be entirely fictional, since I was a perfect child growing up...

Hi, Kristen. I don't work for SWA, and I don't play a SWA employee on television either.
I made a quick check of the official IAD site, and near as I can tell, SWA has only been allocated two (2) gates at IAD. That makes it difficult for SWA to go to as many places as it would like. I suppose that it didn't want to duplicate all the BWI routes.
At any rate, it seems that SWA is still operating via the good graces (whatever) of United and US Airways at IAD. It's all about gate access. It took SWA 14 years to get as many gates as it has at BWI now. I'd like to see SWA have ten or fifteen gates, or its own pier or two, at IAD, but it's just not going to happen overnight.
Also, have you ever tried going to BWI by way of Rt. 15 from Leesburg through Point of Rocks and Frederick? I'm sure that'd be faster than going around the Capital Beltway. I live near Frederick, and although IAD is closer as the crow flies, I find it much easier to get to BWI traffic-wise.

I flew from Houston Hobby to Midway this morning and while waiting for my flight one of your Gate attendants, Angie, at Gate 47 noticed a passenger in a wheel chair who appeared to be waiting for her flight but did not realize that her flight to L.A. was boarding and about to leave at that moment. Angie approached the passenger in a very gentle manner and suggested that perhaps her flight was about to leave and helped her check her ticket and wheeled her over to the Gate and helped her get on a flight she surely would have missed had it not been for Angie!
I thought how Angie's actions were so exemplary of what I know is the best airline around and I just wanted to share this story with all of you and congratulate Southwest on having the best employes around!!!
Sincerely,
Paul Nylander
