OK, now I know the problem.

Southwest Vacations is not Southwest Airlines. It's real name is Apple Vacation Group --- AKA Southwest Vacations . All changes need to made thru Southwest Vacations, and it seems it's policies are different than those of Southwest Airlines.

FWIW, Southwest Vacations has a less than stellar reputation.

Wo, I had no idea so thank you for this info. Lesson learned, I will not be booking any other trips with them in the future.
