While it's nice about your anniversary, I'm unhappy with your new policy that moved families w/children into a boarding space between Group A & B. What happened to pre-boarding those families so they could be guaranteed to sit together? I lost my aisle seat on a flight today because a family was seated late, and I ended up in the middle 10 rows ahead of my carry-on - which meant I had to wait until EVERYONE was off the plane before I could retrieve my bag. Good thing I wasn't catching a connecting flight. I'll bet this has happened to other adults traveling singlely. And yes, I know it's not earth-shaking, but it still left me less than happy. I've sent an e-mail to your customer service; I hope someone answers. And I hope you change your policy - let the families on first, and then I'll take my chances on a good seat with everyone else. Don't dangle an aisle seat in front of me, and then snatch it away.

Chris, thanks for your comments. I think my dad would appreciate the new world of social media that I live in because he was always a "techie." Because he didn't like the sound quality of records, he bought a stereo reel to reel recorder in 1960. If we could have afforded it, we would have had a color television earlier than we did (1966), and he was in early of video recording (unfortunately, he went Beta instead of VHS). No doubt, he would have had a home computer and probably an MP3 player early on.

Nice story Brian. My Aunt went on vacation a while back and brought me some Mt. St. Helen's ash in a bottle. Pretty cool little piece of history in that bottle.

Hi, Brian....Great post! But one correction- the New York Central/New Haven RR station in Manhattan is Grand Central TERMINAL-one of the most common mistakes made! There was a Grand Central Station (now gone) in Chicago that served the C&O and B&O railroads......Jim Jefferys

Dan,
Please keep coming back. We post a TON of business-related information, and follow a sometimes amazing amount of subsequent discussion, on this site. But yes, we do post some totally non-airline stuff on here. (BTW, if you are a Banana Pudding lover, find my recipe for it. It ROCKS. And the only thing it has to do with Southwest is I promised to the blogosphere for being late posting about a schedule change!)
I'm glad you kept poking around until you found something that interested you--and I really hope you keep coming back. We have lots of content on here--both business- and non-business related, video, pictures, and links to social media. Tune out the stuff you don't want...but stay tuned for the stuff you want. In this economy--in this environment--I think you'll get your fill! Have a great weekend.

In the early 80's I spent a lot of time at the far end of North Field, working on several airplanes like an SNJ and a PBY. I did a little bit of work on the Shorts Solent at the Oakland Aviation Museum, though the airplane was still across the bay in Richmond at the time. Used to eat at Hegenburger's (sp?) all the time. I was stationed at Travis and made that drive almost every weekend, except during airshow season.

I managed to follow the various expansions and even moving to new parks. I manage to follow stats of my favorite players since Tom Seaver. But, I absolutely can't keep track of the various banks that buy other banks and rename stadiums. Lets hear it for Yankee Stadium - which avoided becoming WAMU stadium (which should really be called FDIC stadium).
Here is a link to a nice article about Fenway -

I knew three of the victims of Co flt 3407. A lovely family Dawn, Donald and their son Shawn, with Jamaican roots. Dawn's sister Ferris who I did not know, was also on the flight. This family is really hurting at this time, and trying to find the rose in this thorny field of tragedy. May God give comfort to all the families who have lost luved ones, and may their souls rest in peace.

Jessica,
I'd have Lincoln on the short list too. He has always seemed so human to me, which is kinda weird when you consider he lived before motion pictures or radio. At least we have his photographs.
From your description of your field trips, it sounds like history might be your thing! I think it's unfortunate that history is taught in such a dry manner that bores people.

tusphotog,
One of my AirCal trips was on their Electra to Lake Tahoe to get married. So AirCal has a pretty special place. For some reason, I flew PSA more often. For the first few years that Delta operated out of Portland, all our flights went through Seattle first, so that explains why so many trips involved legs between the two.

lol, I love SW too, more than you, enough to share...
interesting comparison in the blog link though, but if you married SWA that would mean it would be the mistress to the rest of us, ok with me if it is ok with you... but how would SW feel about that? or maybe keeping it an open relationship is best , that way no one get's their feeling hurt. right?

I flew some 75 or so segments in the last 12 months and many were Business Select. I am not a big drinker and upon cleaning out my junk drawer for the new year I found many many unused drink coupons...I have an idea! How about a check box on the reservation screen that allows passengers to donate the value (or half the value ...I know unused drink coupons improve your profits) to a SWA chosen charity...like Ronald McDonald House....just a thought...see you aboard soon

Kim,
Good Grief! I am what you call multi-faceted. Actually, I feel more like Uncle Billy than anyone else. You are right about the Peanuts Christmas show, and the score by Vince Guarldi (sp?) is fantastic. That special captures the innocence and worldliness of the early Peanuts strips.

We continue our special Thanksgiving week posts with more thoughts on the holiday from our Blog Team. I admit that, in the past, I have taken Thanksgiving for granted, but not since 1991. Here’s why. For the month of November 1991, I had the incredible opportunity to work in Paris (France—not Texas!). My former employer, Delta Air Lines, had just purchased most of Pan Am’s European routes, and they needed experienced Employees to work alongside the former Pan Am folks. I had always wanted to work for an airline, so I put my name in the hat and was assigned Paris. My time at Orly Airport was incredible, and I got to walk the ramp among so many airlines that I had only read about like Air Algerie, Royal Air Maroc, Middle East Airlines (MEA), and Iran Air (they had a Concorde model in Iran Air livery in their ramp office). For the airplane geeks out there, I saw some rare aircraft including some charter Caravelles, MEA’s Boeing 707s on the Paris-Beirut route, and a DC-10 leased by Cubana, but the rarest of all were the Dassault Mercures of Air Inter (the domestic French airline) running out their last few weeks of service. Only ten Mercures were built (even fewer than Concorde), and its nickname was the “French 737.” Since it was November, it meant I would be spending Thanksgiving away from home, and it was just another work day in France. Even though my French Coworkers treated me fantastically, I think that was the most homesick I felt during the month I was away. Thanksgiving is the holiday that expresses the ideals that makes America great and unique, and you don’t realize that until you are away from her shores. After that Thanksgiving, I made a vow to never be away from home on that date, and for 16 straight years, I have kept that vow, even when I had to fly home standby during a strike by American Airlines. It took a creative routing, but I made it home. I left Paris on a grey day in early December, and a flood of emotions washed over me as the big L-1011 lifted off from Orly’s runway. I guess my feelings were pretty evident because as I cleared Customs in the Atlanta Airport, the inspector handed my passport back and gave me a heartfelt, “Welcome home!” That is the only time I have had a Customs Inspector tell me that, and it took me back a second. I recovered quickly and said: “Thank you! It is good to be home.”

That we are given the privilege of living "free" through previous and current generations here in the USA, the greatest country in the world - even with our faults as a nation. We have so much to be grateful for to the families who lost loved ones and whose generation had to live on without them. They both have made the ultimate sacrifices and I pray God that we (as a nation, as a parent, as a brother, as a sister, etc. don't ever forget this)! God Bless all of our soldiers and I pray God that He keeps them under His wings both on earth and in Heaven. My eternal gratifude to all military veterans no matter what their post and to our current military in this quest for peace and to keep war from our shores.
