My husband & I recently flew Southwest round trip from Sacramento to Baltimore. I cannot eat peanuts and asked for pretzels each time the snacks were passed out. I had to keep asking for the pretzels. My suggestion is that the pretzels are carried with the peanuts so that passengers can opt for either one. I know that the stewards/stewardesses are pressed for time ... and carrying both peanuts and pretzels at the same time would please everyone. Other than this one complaint, the flights were pleasant. Since I need wheelchair assistance, the pre-boarding went very well. I am happy with Southwest, and will use SW to fly again .... maybe not soon .... as I am one of those passsengers who does not like flying ... only do so when necessary.

When will Southwest be adding flights to Minneapolis? I heard a rumor over a year ago that Southwest had some gates in Minneapolis and would be opening soon, but have seen no action yet!

I do not like the other AAirline you're talking about, either! Out of every airline I fly, Southwest is definitely the best! 🙂 SWA LUV!

I'm going to add my name to the list of people hoping to see air service out of Pensacola (especially since some of my upcoming work may have me going to Eglin for a large part of the year). Considering the large number of people who live in the area (I've heard 2 million within , and the options for quite a few nonstop flights (HOU, BNA, BWI, and PHL) that have little or no nonstop service to the airport.

So i think that southwest should think about having a flights into Tunica, MS. Tunica is only 40 miles away from memphis and i would drive that far to get a cheap flight out of memphis. Anything out of memphis is an arm and leg. So come on southwest give the memphis area a chance. The airport is brand new too so hey that would be even better for you guys.

Brian,
I was looking back at some of your posts and saw this one about SWA's support ofr the military.
As a Vietnam era Vet who is slightly disabled I am glad to see the support, and again I have to say I am not really suprised at the support.
Thanks from a VET.

SWA should definitely look at GSP (Greenville/Spartanburg SC)! GSP needs someone to come in and bring some competition and excitement. I would rather fly in and out of GSP than fight my way to CLT (Charlotte Douglas). It would definitely be a welcomed edition for the local economy and airport.

I agree- would rather fly with a seasoned pilot than one with less experience, as long as health is no issue.
But what about the pilots who look forward to retiring at age 60? If you've worked for an airline for 30 years, and then the big 6-0 rolls around and they tell you you've got five more years? I can see why SWA pilots love their jobs, but some people have worked hard for their retirement and want to enjoy it I'm sure! Just another thing to think about...
Any chance these pilots would get an option to retire at 60?

Hi Joann,
I'm a bit confused by your request because your way that Jerry worked here in 1960. We didn't go into business until 1971, so you may have the wrong airline. The only way we have to look up Employees is by their name, but it doesn't search for maiden names. If Jerry did indeed work for SWA, you might check out the several Soluthwest Flight Attendant there.

Joseph,
Thanks for asking about that stadium, as it reminded me that I was supposed to answer that same question for our Blog Master, but it slipped my mind.
Yes, I've researched it, and that is Whataburger Field. The ballpark is home to the Corpus Christi Hooks, a farmteam affiliate of the Houston Astros. The Whataburger fast food chain was founded in, and is still based in Corpus Christi, so they apparently bought the naming rights.
Here is a link that tells more about Whataburger Field and that includes some closer and better photos than I could get from the window of a SWA 737...

Thanks for asking!
Kim 🙂

To Colleen Barrett, President, SouthWest Airlines,
The disclosure of some faults with your maintenance schedules didn’t bother me – because I knew that the customer-centric core of SouthWest Airlines guaranteed that, while come technical rules might be stretched, no one would ever be put in danger.
Now, because of what I will admit is a relatively small incident, I am not so sure. Here’s the sequence. I will admit that I may be overly sensitive on this topic because I am a writer/speaker on the topics of quality/leadership and customer service. (You are, of course, invited to look up my name on Amazon.com to see a list of the books that my wife and I have had published on these topics.)
• On May 5, I had SouthWest tickets to fly from Houston Hobby to San Antonio. It wasn’t a good day for me. I had a kidney stone on the loose (everything you have ever heard the amount of pain associated with kidney stones is true) and had taken a goodly amount of pain medicine . . . I was in a bit of a fog..
• When I arrived in San Antonio, it suddenly occurred to me that I did not have my windbreaker jacket. My first thought was that I had left it on the plane or at the gate area in Houston. I immediately approached a SouthWest Baggage Claim representative and gave her all details as well as I could think them through at the moment.. She promised to look into it and call me. I left the airport, confident that if the jacket could be found, it would be.
• As the hours passed, I remembered that I had, in fact, left the jacket in the Men’s Room just before the security check going into the SouthWest gates area at Houston Hobby. I wasn’t worried. I had told enough audiences over the years about the customer-centric nature of the SouthWest corporate culture that I was confident that the jacket would be chased down.
• On Tuesday, a few hours after the successful removal of my kidney stone, I called the number of SouthWest Baggage in San Antonio and left a message with the more exact details – and was told by the recorded message that I would be called back promptly. I also called the SouthWest Baggage office at Houston Hobby, left the same message/details and was again assured by the recorded message that I would be hearing back from them shortly.
• On Wednesday, May 7, I again called both the San Antonio and Houston Hobby offices, left the same detailed messages, and received the same assurances.
• It is now Friday, May 9. I have not received a phone call from any SouthWest employee.
In all honesty, it was an old (albeit favorite) jacket and losing it is a less than traumatic event. Finding out that the Southwest corporate culture has changed so dramatically that I would not get a follow-up phone call from either office after the initial report or any of my four (two to each office) follow-up phone calls . . . that is truly bothersome. I am no longer so sanguine about the motivations behind the maintenance scheduling, the reports about free flying lessons given to an FAA official, etc.
I am fully aware that everything from fuel prices to competitive pressures have put a great deal of pressure on your organization. I am sorry that these pressures have apparently begun to change who is the organization is at its core.

Thanks for giving us the scoop on the new services from DAL. As great as it is, we need to keep looking at Macon/ Atlanta, Columbia/Charlotte, Minneapolis/Rochester, and go after the juglar of the others. Those airports draw from many mid market cities that many of us have to use other airlines for. Get in there and get the revenue. Many in SW Georgia have nothing but the 3 hr drive to JAX or ATL - and the military bases down that way would be an awesome draw - and of course, those of us tired of flying into crowded Atlanta - with all the delays !!!!!
GET IN THERE !!!

Thank You Southwest Employees,
We took our first flight in fifteen years to Houston Hobby, in late September returning October 2, 2006.
Here are the results:
Albany NY, Luggage check in, (what is this thing we have to get our luggage tags at?) Customer service reps at counter fantastic.
Gate attendant Chris absolutely astounded us with his friendliness, and helpufull attitude.
Albany NY to Baltimore MD, and first stop and a change of planes, flight attendants Happy, cheerful, great communicators and just generally funny.
Baltimore MD, on another plane, Ok the snacks and peanuts were great, the attendants left us with a wonderful feeling, gee I guess we just have to fly Southwest from now on.
Houston, spent a week, saw NASA, great discount with rapid rewards card, saw Rice University, (my wife got to see our sons office at Rice).
Spent time at Kemah Beach, did the malls, our son had a project list for his new home in Houston, and before we knew it it was time to go back to upstate NY.
We left Houston Hobby on Monday October 2, at 3:35 PM, to Chicago, again the flight attendants made it all worth while, the Captain kept us up dated on the Flight during it, we were sad to get off in Chicago.
Snafu, Weather turned Bad, flights delayed and more delayed and all Flights cancelled out of Chicago, about 10:30 pm, so we ended up staying in the terminal over night, the personnel of the airport not frinedly at all, imagine they wanted to provide cots and line them up head to toe, and insist that we stay in concourse A.
Southwest to the rescue they rebooked our flight no extra cost and then they offered a voucher for a room overnight, we decided to stay at the airport and fly out Tuesday at 0600 am.
Finally the weather cooperated and we were on our way back to Albany, via Baltimore.
Oops, we arrived in Albany at about 10:00 Am on Tuesday but our luggage didn't, Michelle in baggage claims was so great helping us, she even gave up her lunch to help all of us. (Another case of great Southwest Employees--more like friends)
12:30 HURRAY the next plane arrived from Chicago and our luggage also.
We loaded and headed onto the ny state thruway, towards home.
As we drove home my wife and I discussed the entire trip, and the fact that without the caring attitude of the southwest employees (friends), it would have been much worse, we thank each and every one of you, forgive me if I didn't remember your name or name's, you know who you are. You made a differrence in our attitude about flying.
As we drove west on the thruway my wife had tears in her eyes as she saw the sign for our hometown
Thak You,.

Very cool story. I've picked up a copy of that Airways mag and don't plan on losing track of it for a long time.
The Udvar-Hazy Museum is just stunning. I know that the Smithsonian was running out of room at the downtown DC museum, so the Udvar-Hazy addition was a perfect addition. Being a Washingtonian, I've been to both many times. It's difficult to do both museums in a day (though, there is a free shuttle between the two). If you've got a long (5 hour +) layover at IAD, take a cab (quick ride) to the Udvar-Hazy museum and check out a Concorde, the Enola Gay, the Space Shuttle Enterprice, and MANY more amazing aircraft.
Have fun! Congrats to SWA for starting it's IAD service - very excited to see those Red Bellies at Dulles.

I have read the pet requests but have not seen a comment from someone at Southwest which disappoints me. I was considering buying a puppy in Las Vegas to return home with because he has been sitting in a shelter for months. I fly Southwest 4 to 5 times a month average and love the service I recieve. With the economy and lack of pet adoptions I really hope Southwest will consider there policy. We are living in hardtimes and if someone has the ability to save an animal then Southwest should offer the ability for them to bring it home. I will be taking a different airline home on this trip and may start taking my business to airlines that understand how important pets are to their owners.

My wife and I had sailed out of New York harbor the evening of September 10th at 9:45PM on what was to be on a very long awaited 10 day cruise vacation on the British ship "Princess". As we were eating breakfast, docked at New Port, R.I., the Captain announced on the PA system that an aircraft had flown into one of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. Like many others, I assumed that a light aircraft had strayed into the tower - that is until a second PA announced a second strike at the World Trade Center. That was the beginning of a very long an anxious cruise where we eventually ported into Monteal, Canada on 9/21. The ship's Captain explained that he had no choice but to continue with the cruise itinerary under the circumstances of what was going on in the U.S. and subsequent ripple effect in the world. To make a long story shorter, ship to shore communications to all but those on board who had relatives in New York City were impossible. We had no idea what the status of our people and company of Southwest Airlines was until near the end of the cruise. The Canadians at all of our stops were fantastic in their support of we Americans and of the U.S. Hand printed/painted signs of support were everywhere as well as our Flag being displayed on their homes and buildings.
We were able to get the very last flight out of Montreal to DFW that American Airlines would have for quite a while (a newscast stated that the largest Muslim community in North America was in Monteal). That flight had only 3 seats available for 'civilians' as it was filled only with American Airlines' flight crews and other employees. As a retired AAer, I really shared in the grief and quiet anger of the crews - It was the saddest flight I have ever experienced.
Back home, and back on the job, it was wonderful to see the resolve and caring spirit of our Southwest Airlines family ready to fight the battle and ensure our Freedom to Fly.
