Great topic... I cannot stress the importance of reading. When i was younger before i could go out and play, i had to finish my homework, do my chores around the house, and read. Brian, Southwest and the rest of the bloggers, Thank you for making my trip home such a special one. My mom has cooked for me every night and yes i proudly gained some weight. I will be leaving here this Saturday and it is going to be a hard good bye. My family means the world to me and i could not function without their prayers and their support. By the way the little girl in the picture is my niece , her name is Laela. She is special to me because she is my first niece. I am humbled and honored to serve our country in these historic times. Eduardo, That does not sound like something Southwest would do.. My bag was misplaced not lost and it was returned to me the next day. Did you try speaking to someone at the airport? It is easy to get mad at southwest but i also realize that they handle a lot of luggage on a daily basis and while there is no room for error, it can occur. When it does occur i know Southwest would be the first to admit their mistake and they would fix the problem. While I am sorry to hear about your situation, there is no need to sell your stock all because of this one mistake. I read about this often on this blog and its unfortunate.." Southwest made a mistake.. I will never fly them ever again." "My flight was late.. I will no longer be a rapid reward member" "Southwest needs to improve their service" blah, blah.. I HAVE TOO MANY STORIES TO WRITE TOO MANY FOND MEMORIES... I know last Christmas i was on leave and my ship pulled in a day early. I had a flight booked for that Friday but i was now able to leave that Thursday. I called Southwest and they said everything was booked solid but that i could go to the airport and try to fly standby. I knew it was a long shot but i wanted to get home to my family. I get to the airport (SAN) and the line was out the door yet it was moving rather quickly. I told the customer service agent my story, she couldn't make me any promises but she did give me a Southwest smile. I headed up to the gate and i placed my name on the standby list. I encountered a gate agent named Ms. Delgado.. no relation.. she went above and beyond to ensure that i got home that day to my family. she was my angel for the day. i had been out to sea for over a month without seeing land and all i wanted for Christmas was to see my family. Southwest made it happen and that night i was in my own bed eating my moms good cooking... Before i boarded the flight Ms. Delgado gave me a huge hug and thanked me for my service to our great country. I thanked her for her service to Southwest, tears filled our eyes. Steve, If you were running Southwest how would you improve their service?? let me tell you what Southwest did for me yesterday.. I am active duty military and i will be going on a deployment soon. When i arrived in Albuquerque all of my Southwest friends greeted me with balloons, banners, gifts and my family. They went out of their way to make sure that my trip home would be a memorable experience. Flying from San Diego to ABQ was a real treat, everyone from the ground crew to the inflight crew was helpful but kept most of us laughing with their inflight jokes. On top of that i earned double credit since i flew out of California and on top of that total round trip airfare $207.00. I doubt that any other airlines would have gone out of their way to do this. A few weeks ago someone handed me a package on our ship, i signed for it. I realized that the package did not belong to me so i took it back to our main office on the ship. That part ended up getting lost and the last person to sign for it was me. even though i gave it back to the main office my name was written all over it. it turns out that this package contained an airplane part and was worth well lets just say a lot of money..
