After reading the article, two well-known advertising slogans immediately came to mind. Although one of them belongs to an airline that shares its name with the 4th letter of the Greek alphabet and the other belongs to an insurance company, one can't help but wonder if they're in good hands with WN, because they LUV to fly, and it shows :-)

Dear Southwest, your people and service are great, and I fly Southwest as my first choice whenever I can. This means, however, I often have to drive 5 hours to get a flight! I live 5 minutes away from the Northwest Florida Regional Airport, one that you are considering expanding into. PLEASE DO! It is a much better and more central than Pensacola. I believe it has more call for SW services and you would not have as much competition. With your airline I can fly to many different places on the same journey - Missouri to visit my grandchildren, on to Dallas for business, on to San Antonio to visit friends, to Jacksonville or Ft. Lauderdale to visit family and then fly home. I can do the same thing if my trip takes me to New England - another path I often take. Your airline is truly the alternative to driving for me! We really need Southwest in the panhandle and we need you most in Valparaiso!

I had a Customer who was running late with his family in tow tell me he needed us to stop boarding because he had to have the front row because his son kicks the entire flight. It was too late to stop boarding and I just informed him that if the front row was gone his wife could sit next to kicking son and the father could sit in the seat in front of the kicking son. How is that for quick thinking? I will bet the father cured that kid of all that kicking.

I recently went on a business trip where I encountered “extreme customer service” every step of the way. I was so delighted that I rhapsodized about my experience via Twitter and Facebook during and after my trip. I’m hardly alone in using social media as a way to instantly communicate my pleasure (and sometimes displeasure) to a circle of friends and followers. Given the freewheeling frontier of Web 2.0, it’s clear that the most effective social media strategy that brands can employ is to focus on delivering “extreme customer service” or better yet, an “extreme customer experience,” encompassing an individual’s total experience of a brand not just the customer service aspect of that experience. On the aforementioned business trip where everything that could go right did, I happened to be flying Southwest Airlines. to read more, visit: http://blog.crt-tanaka.com/

Subject: Important Notice: TSA Secure Flight
Message-ID: <4AC634DE.00000EA8@omp.luv.southwest.com>
Action Required: TSA Changes Require You To Update Your Account
Dear xxxx,
Southwest Airlines has been working in cooperation with the TSA to introduce Secure Flight, a federally mandated program designed to help enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel through the use of improved watch list* matching.
Southwest Airlines is therefore required to collect additional Secure Flight Passenger Data, which includes:
Your full name, exactly as it appears on the current (non-expired) government-issued photo ID that you will be traveling with
Date of birth
Gender
The TSA-issued Redress Number** (if applicable)
Update your MySouthwest Account Now
All Southwest Airline Customers are able to update their account information once so that it is compliant with TSA requirements. It is recommended that you do so before your next flight to minimize your chances of being delayed or held in TSA security check-points.
If you have reservations for future travel, and booked without full name, birth date, and gender, there is no need to add this additional information prior to your upcoming trip.
Just log-on to MySouthwest using your Rapid Rewards number (included above), update the above required information, and you're done!
How Does Secure Flight Make Travel Better for Me?
The TSA determined that making date of birth and gender mandatory data elements would greatly reduce the number of passengers misidentified as a match to the watch list when fully implemented. It is to your advantage to provide the above information to potentially prevent delays or inconveniences at the airport, especially for those individuals who have similar names to those on the watch lists.
NOTE: Updating your account information will not affect Southwest Airlines' ability to apply credits to your Rapid Rewards account.
Want to Know More?
Visit the TSA's Secure Flight web page.
Thank you for your patience!
Your friends at Rapid Rewards

* To find out about the watch list, click here to be taken to the TSA website.
** The TSA-assigned Redress Number is assigned to Customers who believe they have been mistakenly matched to a name on the watch list to prevent misidentification. Customers who have previously contacted Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and received a redress letter will should soon receive a new letter from DHS that will include the Redress Number for you to enter into your account. The control number is not the same as a Redress Number.

Southwest CEO Gary Kelly was one of the featured speakers on the airline CEO panel at NBTA earlier this month. After his talk, he took a few minutes to sit down with me, Johnny Jet, and Dan Webb (from Things in the Sky) to answer any questions we might have. I’m not sure how, but this draft fell through the cracks and didn’t get published. I still think it’s relevant and interesting, so, here are the highlights. Johnny kicked off the questioning, and he asked about international plans. to read more, visit: http://crankyflier.com/2009/09/24/talking-to-southwest-ceo-gary-kelly-about-new-airplanes-international-flying-more/

Disney has been offering free dining in September since it's the off season. Hoping they are doing it again in 2010. I did see that they were just giving free quick service dining for the value resorts and full service for the moderate resorts. I don't know if Southwest vacation packages do the free dining. You might have to call Disney or use a Disney Travel agency .

Southwest Airlines and the Southwest Airlines Pilot’s Association (SWAPA) announced today the SWAPA Board of Directors has voted to send the proposed tentative agreement to the full SWAPA membership for a ratification vote. This new proposal is a five-year agreement through Aug. 31, 2011. The current Southwest Pilot contract became amendable on Aug. 31, 2006. SWAPA and Southwest Airlines began contract negotiations in September 2006. “I applaud the negotiation teams and the SWAPA Board for recognizing the importance of this new tentative agreement,” said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO. “Although this new proposal was negotiated during a very different and consistently challenging economic period than the previous tentative agreement, we are proud that we could still offer our hard working Pilots a proposal that is responsible, yet reflects the current uncertain economic outlook.” The current tentative agreement rewards SWAPA membership for the Company’s past two years of profitability, while making a critical move to tie the next two years' compensation to the Company’s financial performance. The tentative agreement is still subject to a ratification vote by the full SWAPA membership made up of more than 5,900 Pilots. The voting period will be determined by SWAPA. Thank you for the information Stuart. It's just frustrating, because Southwest keeps eliminating service at MHT. Southwest airlines has driven away many other airlines/ routes over the years in NH. As a NH resident its nice to be able to fly out of NH. So many people in NH fear the days of HAVING to drive to Boston to take a flight again.
Manchester to Nashville eliminated.
Manchester to Fort Lauderdale eliminated.
Manchester to Phoenix eliminated briefly.
4 flight a day Manchester to Baltimore eliminated.
2 flights a day Manchester to Chicago eliminated.
3 flights a day Manchester to Orlando eliminated.
Do you see Manchester getting any of these flights back, aside from MHT - Phoenix?
Thank you.
