If you cancel the flight you'll be issued what is called "travel funds" that are saved in your account - you need to write down the confirmation number to retrieve these funds. Then you can use the travel funds to fly within one year of the original date of purchase. No change fee to change the dates as well - the flight still needs to take place within a year of the original purchase. You also have to pay the current price of the tickets which may be higher (or lower) than when you originally booked. In particular if you will fly Southwest a few times per year, the WGA option is low risk since you could re-use those travel funds for a different trip and then rebook the trip (to Colorado?) fresh when you know the new dates.
