Otherwise I suggest talking to Cape Air if you can, they may have some understanding of the issue and be able to offer some reaccomodation (although they are not bound to do that). It's not like Southwest competes with them for the New Orleans passengers, so perhaps they would understand if you didn't already try them. Amtrak also could be taken on the City of New Orleans train directly to Carbondale, instead of flying to St. Louis.
