We have a youth group going to NY. I agree with Southwest that they are safe from the virus. However, we are not safe from NY (who currently is under a State of Emergency) deciding to quarantine certain areas or possibly closing airports and having our children stranded there for up to 14 days. We are a lower income group in Mississippi and air travel in the next 10 months for these kids with a voucher is very unlikely. Also, they did fundraisers to pay for the tickets. Morally it feels wrong to raise funds for an organization and use for personal use. I know this isn't Southwest's problem but this is a situation to break policy.

Delta gave me a full refund and all I had to do was request a refund online.

We are in a similar situation unfortunately. We have a group scheduled to leave for New York on Saturday but chose to cancel when the city declared a State of Emergency! My personal feelings on the CoronaVirus don't matter in this situation but we are at the mercy of the city of NY. If they choose to continue to implement quarantines or they decide to close the airport our children could be stranded there for up to 14 days with their chaperones. Our group is a lower income organization from a small town in Mississippi. Most likely these families won't have an opportunity to fly within the next 12 months so the money will be wasted. Since our destination is under a State of Emergency I think it is reasonable to issue a refund. Southwest is putting us parents in a position to choose between child safety and financial setback. We were told that if we booked a more expensive fare they could refund us the tickets. This is disappointing to say the least.
