HI Carole, thank you for your article! I was wondering if you could help! I had an interview scheduled for today and I never received the call...does this mean that SWA has changed their mind? I called the recruiter and left a message and emailed but no response. Can you help? I would appreciate it so much!

Your tribute to your "Daddy" made me cry. I remember that he was the sportscaster at the baseball games and brought many of your friends along. You were very lucky in the parent department, and I was lucky to know them. I just read that Father's Day was instigated by a daughter ,and June was picked because it was the month of his birth. How appropriate that you honored your "Daddy" with such a moving tribute..

Hi Carole,
I read your article on why you became a flight attendant and wanted to say "I laughed out loud"!!! I recently told my husband and friends (lots of pilots) that I wanted to become a FA. They laughed and said "Why would you give up Speech Therapy?". We have the same story only I have put my wishes on hold for as many years as you've been a FA. I just had to share. I am going forward with the plan. 🙂 Missy

Your posts are timely and quite frankly, spot on. We spent this past week evaluating how our operation performed during the last couple of weeks of December and reached similar conclusions. There were several instances where we were unable to provide the level of Customer Service we, and our Customers expect. And just as candidly, there were times when we simply did not have enough staffing to meet the significant challenges the weather patterns of numerous days presented. We will be addressing these issues internally.
VMCarrie, I hope you won't judge our Customer Service by this one incident, and I am sure that Customer Relations will address your issues. Anonymous, Thank you for your post, your obvious concern for our Customer Service and fellow Employees, and your candor. We appreciate everything you, and the rest of the wonderful Ground Operations Employees did for our Valued Customers!

I enjoy remembering Thanksgivings past with my mother and father, grandparents and siblings, spouse and two young children. Those were the best of times with nothing but hope for the future and gratitude for home and family--nowhere to go but up! There's still a picture somewhere of a turkey cake that took me three days to make and an hour for everyone to eat! My sister mentions it every year so its memory lives on. There was no thought at the time but that this would all go on forever. As I sit thinking about this next Thanksgiving, life has changed and gratitude focuses on things for which I never expected to feel grateful. Who among us is not grateful we have secure jobs? I am grateful I have a home that is paid for--no threat of foreclosure. I now see my children in their own children's excitement over their homemade pilgrim hats and turkey pictures with colored paper tails. I will admit I am thankful to simply show up for Thanksgiving dinner, in full makeup, bearing one pie. I am thankful for women who still like to create Thanksgiving dinner. I feel sadness for my loved ones who have passed, but such joy in friends who have become like family and who offer their help when needed. There are problems and concerns, but answers will be found--I simply Google them! (Another thing I'm thankful for.) Happy Thanksgiving and blessings to you all.

Carole, I can totally relate. Southwest has given new meaning to the word "love handles." Appropriately, I call them my LUV handles. Our department is always snacking and it's definitely caught up with my booty too. As I sit here in my mens oversized sweatshirt, I think you may have just motivated me a wee bit to get with the program. Keep us posted with your progress.

Oh Carole, this is the best video I have seen and totally enjoyed watching Noah's talent in basketball. Not to mention he is the cutest young man on the court. You are blessed to have such a wonderful family and precious grandson. Thanks for sharing your story. You are such a ray of sunshine for everyone that meets you. Your heart is the best...as someone said earlier...NOAH'S GOT GAME.
Thanks for sharing your heart with all of us.

Hello Southwest,
As entertaining and fun as you may be, I'm really all about the airfare and schedule. Your new way of showing pricing is what's nuts. You have chosen to take a KISS process and make it complicated and annoying. What was lovely, pick a flight time - pick a fare and vice versa, is gone amidst a sudden array of blue-biz select-biz select-biz select - oh, now orange, yellow, no flight times, etc, etc. I'm signing off.

Hi there,
My name is Crystal and I am 34 years old. I came across your website and wanted to ask you what is the best way to get into Flight Attendant school? I use to know someone who was a flight attendant and she mentioned that you have to know someone within the company to be able to get into the program. Just thought I would ask you because I noticed that there are no openings for a flight att. at this time. Please email me back and let me know where I need to start if you would. Thanks so much for your help. :)

Anybody who flies with me knows I like to kid and say funny stuff on the PA but I had the tables turned on me the other day by a young boy who was flying unaccompanied. After making my service PA and saying that today we'd be serving complimentary soft drinks, juice and coffee and that cocktails, beer, and wine can be purchased for 4.00, I went out in the cabin to take my drink orders. When I got to this young man, he reached over toward me to hand me a twenty dollar bill and told me he wanted to order a "shrimp cocktail !" Only he wasn't joking, he was totally serious. You should have heard all the adults who were sitting around him that started to laugh. I had a good laugh myself !

Ode to our heart stir stick is the cutest ever. We need to see if there is a way to keep that part of our LUV...it brings smiles to kids and adults alike. Please say that they are reconsidering...this is part of our tradition, our symbol of LUV...what can we do to get the word out on our HEART STIR STICKS.

Hi Heather and Carole! Thank you so much for getting back to me. I am smiling like crazy. Funny part is that I was coming home early from a HORRIBLE weekend in Philly, and, looked like I was still in my pajamas. Go figure.
I will say, it gave us a lot to laugh about later at dinner. Happy holidays to you too!

I enjoy flying both in the real world and on my flight simulator X. I want to be a pilot for southwest in a couple of years. But to make my flight simulator as realistic as possible I was wondering about a few things. One question I have is what is the rate of climb up to 10,000 and then up to cruise what is it? My next question is what is the descent speed and rate of descent? My third question is how do you decide when to descend, how far out, what is the rule for that? This question is not about a simulator but, why do you have to turn off all electronic devices under 10,000 when some of them do not put out a radio frequency or any kind of frequency like your ipod or PSP(when internet is turned off)? Thank You very much for answering my question and I hope to fulfill my dream very soon!

The Chili Cookoff is something I'd LUV to attend! Unfortunately, Mother Nature combined with Spring Break kept us New Englanders away. There's always next year, as long as this isn't the last! I'll be working on my recipe until then, plotting away.......

Karen,
I'm so sorry that you had bad luck with Southwest in Manchester. I have flown countless flights on Southwest out of MHT, and have always dealt with pleasant, bright people. I was flying to MCO on Christmas Eve one night, and someone was in a Santa suit giving out candy canes! I hope you can give WN at MHT another chance!

I am currently awaiting for the next FA training class to begin in the next month or so. I would like to find out what to expect in the first year. Main question is after probation, how hard is commuting back to DFW, and should I just consider moving to my base. Will I have a schedule that will allow me to commute if I decide to live in Dallas? I have other questions, I would appreciate any one that could enlighten me, e-mail me please. Thanks for the info.

After reading your blog Carole I think I may have found the perfect job! Let's see I have been a mom since I was 19, currently work 12 hour shifts on a critical care unit, rarely get a one half hour lunch, never mind 2 15 min breaks, find myself eating at my station and yes sometimes over the trash. Must always maintain my composure with patients and their family members. Oh yes and by the way I am in the Southwest waiting pool! Thanks for the laugh today. I needed it.

I would like to purchase the Southwest Airlines 35th Anniversary Keepsake Cookbook featured in the October 2006 Southwest Blogs. Are there any cookbooks available for sale?
If not, I am specifically interested in a Southwest soup recipe that I believe I read in a Southwest Airline's publication on one of your flights. One of the main ingredients of the recipe was sweet potato. Really would like one of the recipe books, though. Please let me know if any books are available and if so where to send the money. thanks

Now the bad news, I have to get on a Delta flight tomorrow since SWA doesn't go to Atlanta's Hartsfield and that is where our meetings are :-(
Jim — Tue, 06/06/2006 - 13:16
Well Jim, first I want to say that I know it may be a few years too late, and you'll probably never read this, but if you do ----- I hope you made it to your meetings on time. I pray that the wind wasn't blowing and ATL wasn't shut down. Second, next time you should just fly into Birmingham (BHM). It may be worth the drive just to fly wth SW.
