M. Lamar Muse was a maverick and a genius, and without his strict control of costs and keen understanding of the airline industry, I doubt there would be a Southwest Airlines today. His legacy can be seen in every 30-minute turn, in the 3rd generation 737's SWA continues to purchase, in the "whatever it takes" attitude of the employees, and in Southwest's punchy, humorous ads. He built an airline with a soul.
I'd like to ask that Southwest forget whatever hard feelings there are left over his leaving and finally roll out a plane emblazoned with his name.

The aisles will feel plenty narrow again after the holidays have passed, Matt. Just enjoy the extra hip-room while you can. 😉

James, if the camera is in the "auto" mode, the flash will fire as needed. If you place it in any of the manual shooting modes then it should be at your discretion. I have a Nikon D80 so the buttons are a little different, but all SLR's should work the same in this respect. Feel free to e-mail me at Stangera (at) Gmail.com and we can try to figure out exactly how it works.

I understand these aircraft have fewer seats (125?). Is that because of the different galley configuration?

Hey James, just out of curiosity, are you a photography nut too? I always try to have my camera with me on trips in case I see something especially rare or unique. Like last week when the Midwest got caught in that snowstorm, I had an overnight in GRR (Grand Rapids, MI), and when we got to the aircraft the next morning there was almost a half-inch of ice on it. That, coupled with the snow on the ramp and the gray-blue fog in the air, made for a stunning photo op.

Being an FA already (but not for SWA [yet], so I'm not disqualified!) makes #1 a little easier. Those are crew life vests underneath the jumpseat.
#2 can only be a storage locker in a galley, full of yummy Ritz crackers.
#3 is the tricky one. That shiny plastic looks like the stuff they use in the lavs. So I'm going to say it's a picture of a screw.
In the lavatory. 🙂

Did you eat at Potbelly's by gate B48? Best lunch at Dulles. The place is always packed with SWA FA's grabbing a bite to eat between flights.

Southwest's corny jokes, salty snacks, and all the soda pop I could guzzle got me hooked on flying as a kid. Nothing else compares to a SWA flight - I love it!

That looks like a pretty nice speaker. Put a couple sub woofers in there, James, and I bet no one would try to sleep during your safety announcement. 😉

Excellent post, please keep them coming. It sounds like you have one of the best jobs at the airline. Working with Herb and Colleen on a daily basis must be a real pleasure, and an honor! It's still a dream of mine to meet them. There's a lot I'd like to thank them both for.
