If you are interested in being hired, register on SWA 's job site with your resume and profile. You can request email alerts for jobs. I registered a month or so ago and got an email yesterday for a one on one interview in July.
I am currently an FA with another airline, but have only been there two years, so I don't think that is necessarily an advantage.
Also, being a "people person" is not really your best personality trait. They want people who are gracious, calm and poised and have a good sense of humor and are flexible.
You have to be able to project a "command presence" so that passengers feel confident that you know what you are doing but still feel that they are getting good service.
This was a midlife career change for me after 25 years in the corporate world. I can testify to the fact that maturity is an asset not a drawback and I encourage anyone to apply who has varied employment experience. I feel that the passengers feel more comfortable with a mature flight attendant rather than a younger person who might lack in self confidence or poise.
Those of us already doing the job can tell you how much fun it is BUT it is not glamorous and you won't make much money. The travel benefits are fabulous though.
So bottom line - register on the careers website . Don't wait to see job openings - they may not show up as Brian said because they already have a lot of applicants in the hiring pool.

For the mom with the young child - think about how you would handle child care when you have to go on a four day trip with two hours notice! Could you manage that? If not you may have to wait until you have child care in place.
