I will be traveling with a friend who has back issues. She is hoping to take a pillow along to sit on. Will this count as a personal item?

I want to thank everyone for your input. I wanted to report that we had an AMAZING agent in MSP who took care of us. He did put HNL as the final destination and our bags arrived as expected. We purchased entry to the OAK Escape Lounge off Groupon. The purchase was for a 3 hr stay but it wasn’t busy and we were not asked to leave. It was well worth the purchase price.

Some of our group definitely have mobility issues so leaving feels overwhelming. Worst case scenario 2 of us can retrieve bags and go back through security. I did find decent priced passes to the Escape Lounge on Groupon so at least 3 of those hours might be a little more comfy. I believe we need to sign in and may be asked to leave after 3 hours.

We are traveling from MSP to HNL in December. I had to book as 2 different segments and we ended up with a 6 hr layover in Oakland. I understand SW will only take luggage 4 hours before a flight so I’m wondering if they will check our luggage through or will we need to go to baggage claim and recheck it? My best guess is that we will need to go get it but I’m hoping for a different answer.

After you get the card/cards I would create a Chase online account. Then up in the upper left corner of the website there is a dropdown menu where you can secure message Chase. They are very good about answering questions and giving very clear answers. I would definiely wait for the Oct 1 date and apply for both cards. Be sure not to complete the spend on either of the cards to early or one of them will create points for 2017 and another possibly for 2018 and you would completely miss your companion pass.

I have seen some flights where the points on the same exact flights are less when booked in 2 segments. If we were to book in 2 segments would SW check the bags all the way through or would we need to do carryon?

I will be traveling on Southwest Airlines for the first time in October. We will be a group of 8. I will be traveling with my 4yo granddaughter and my Down Syndrome daughter. Will my Down Syndrome daughter be allowed to board with me during family boarding?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am planning to do the 24 hr checkin. As long as the 9yo is not seperated from an adult we will be fine. There will actually be 8 of us traveling. I will be traveling with my 4yo granddaughter. My 37yo Down Syndrome daughter will also be traveling with us as well as my 80yo mother and the grandmother of the other 2 boys. I think what we will do is... I will board with my granddaughter during the family boarding, She will travel in her car seat so I will put her by the window. I am hoping to have her just behind our other family since she does kick the seat at times and I would feel better if it wasn't a stranger who could reasonably become frustrated. Would it be terribly wrong then for me to sit in the aisle seat? This would essentially be saving a seat for my Down Syndrome daughter. I do understand saving seats is frowned upon and if someone chooses to sit between the 4yo and myself they would have every right. May not even be such a bad option for me When my mother and daughter board if there are two seats together I can just move to the middle seat and mom and Becky can just sit together in another area of the plane.

I am traveling with a mother who will be with her 5yo and 9yo sons. I understand the mother can do family boarding with the 5yo. My question is, should we purchase early boarding for the 9yo or ill he be allowed to board with his mother? The grandmother is also on the reservation. Another part of this question is, if we purchase early boarding for the 9yo will he have it for both portions of the flights?
