It will take about a month to receive the card. I have never needed a card to book or check in. Your companion benefit should be immediately available after the point posting that takes you over the 110K points. At that point you will see a spot on your online dashboard to enter your companion or call SWA and they can enter the details over the phone. After the companion is successfully added you can begin booking companion reservations. No waiting. It used to be a requirement that they have a Rapid Reward number, so go ahead and begin that process, if your companion does not have an RR #.

Also, you may want to consider when you booked the original flight and when you are changing it. If you booked Early Bird, I believe the rebooked flight recalculates the Early Bird feature and may assign a later boarding position. If there is a large gap of time between the original booking and the changed booking and the savings are minimal, you may not want to make the change to ensure a better position during boarding.

I am an A-list member, which has free stand-by benefits. I have completed the first leg of an itinerary with someone on a my companion pass. If I go stand-by on my return trip under the rules specified for A-list members (within two hours), will the person on my companion pass fly free as well?
