@spacecoastbill You get on in A1-15, and you choose to sit in a row with someone when there is basically a whole empty plane? Um... Why? Oh, and for the record, if someone is saving a seat, they will invariably sit in the aisle seat. Sorry, but I call BS on this one.
@swavegastravel I will use small words so that you understand. Very, very, very, very few people are unable to walk a short distance. With very, very, very, very few exceptions, people with a wheelchair get out of the chair at the airplane door and walk to their seat. Then, when the plane lands, they walk off the plane where there is a wheelchair waiting for them. Just because you see them walk off the plane doesn't mean that a miracle occurred. It means that they did what 99.9% of people in wheelchairs do at airports.
Because Mr. Judgemental you forget to think about the tons of preboards and those already onboard who move seats during the wait for new passengers.
Also, we typically prefer the front of the aircraft, and I have a need to be close to the lav.
So no, no BS here, other than your own comment.

"Occupied seats but they haven't boarded yet?". Open Seating: Definition? Seriously, this needs clarification? As another person posted , and as two SW Captains that I know very well, just told me a few minutes ago, "open seating" means 'nobody is sitting there at that moment. If the seat doesn't have a human being in it, it is open. Period.`' Of course, it is the FAs that have to do with dense remarks like the one you gave, not the Captains. However, like others, I have no issue with saving a seat for a family member or two. Just don't do it the emergency row section where there is more leg room. Those purchasing Business Select should have that benefit.
Exactly my experience with this. Person boarded ahead of us (We were in the A 1-15 group) and got onboard with the person ahead of us in a window seat. He put an item in the other 2 seats. I asked him if there was anyone physically sitting there or not. He said his fried was in the bathroom (impossible as I was there when he boarded and the lav was also unoccupied).
i told him to please remove his property so myself and the Mrs could sit in the open seats. he got verbal, he got loud, and the FA told him the seats were open and we were allowed to sit there. He got up and went back several rows. Late in the C group comes his friend and I overheard him ask him why he didnt save a seat for him in a row closer to the front. His mouth nearly got him tossed off the flight.
Capt came over to me and asked what the commotion was about, I explained it to him and he went back to the flight deck.

*******What would you have done? Tell me that you can seat in any open seat? Thats exactly what you would be told. By myself and the FAs as well. Exactly what has happened before. If you want to be that inconsiderate, then board with them. ******Sorry, but this seat is taken. No, it isnt, its available. ******Sit down anyway? I'm not getting up to let you in. Push past me? I'm pressing charges for assault. Does not work that way. Cause a problem and its YOU getting thrown off the plane. You might want to read up on criminal codes and the elements needed. What you think is assault is in reality YOU committing criminal disorderly conduct.

Thats very true. But those gaming the system are far more numerous on SWA because of the lack of assigned seating. Especially going to LAS or MCO.

Simple solution. When you get onboard, if you want to sit there... sit there. If they say the seat is saved.... just sit there.

No, they go through and leave a small hole. The aircrafts pressurization system can compensate for that. You are comparing a large piece of an engine slicing through a fuselage. She wasn't "sucked" out, that part of the plane was exposed, and she got caught in the 400 mile per Hour slipstream. Stop using movies as your reference. I teach officers to fly armed, and part of that training is what bullets do to airplanes.

Not exactly. Federal officers like FBI, Secret Service, IRS can carry on board. State and Local officers can as well with a NLETS message for authorization.

Meh. Unless you are wearing a form fitted N95 mask that is tightly sealed against your face and mouth, then the other cloth and other masks are useless. They allow the virus, and water droplets to freely exit the mask all around it. The same recommendation is out there each year for flu viruses, but nobody ever cared. And after this virus and its media leaves, people will forget about masks again. If you are not symptomatic, there is no reason to have a mask at all. The best thing you can do is wash your hands, dont touch your face, and dont let anyone cough in your face.
Get over it. If you are afraid of people with no masks then dont fly. We already know masks are useless at containing the virus. You are obviously far from the other passenger, thats all you need. As long as someone is not symptomatic then they dont need a mask anyway.

So what is the change? I didnt see any change on the website yet, and they still have the confusing suggestion that TSA locks are acceptable for gun cases. Obviously they conflict with the Federal Law that states ONLY the passenger can have the key or combo. We know that anyone who wants TSA keys can just make them, the plans are available on the internet thanks to the TSA making them available.

@Laurenk wrote: You are wrong about ESAs. Some of the things you said are true, but your overall point is incorrect. ESAs aren’t fake service animals because they aren’t service animals, nor are they an attempt to be a service animal. Service animals must be trained to do a task; ESAs are for emotional support so they aren’t required to perform any certain task. ESA is a legitimate option for being with disabilities. You cannot simply purchase a vest and/or certificate online and have your pet magically turn into an ESA. You must be evaluated and have a report or letter from a licensed medical professional stating you have a disability based on criteria listed in the DSM and require an ESA. If you have that, then you are allowed to call your animal an ESA which provides protections and rights in regards to housing and flights. Not exactly the case. For as little as $25 you can go online, fill out a few checkboxes, and get aletter frmo a therapist in your state. Shady, but it fulfills the Federal Law. SWA cannot do anything about it, the ACAA mandates they allow it.

SWA has to comply with the ACAA. Maybe your frustration needs to be addressed to those who wrote that law? @Jack72223 wrote: Nicole - agree with those who clearly see the preboard qualification process as one that is easily "gamed". I observe way too many "disability" imposters as mentioned in this conversation and am sure it is obvious to Southwest employees and management as well. Not satisfactory for Southwest to throw up "gov't regulations" as the reason for not solving this. I don't advocate non-compliance here, but believe Southwest can better manage this process to keep it from being a laughing-stock issue not only with YOUR employees, but also your (valued??) customer base.

So by your definition every single website out there that provides news must meet your arbitrary definition of media? Shall we strip every single liberal entertainment network out there of their media status because they dont provide news? CNN for example, is no longer a news network, I cant even remember the last time they actually provided news. Probably why they are below Nickelodean in the ratings. LET provides news. They qualify as media. They are not getting around anything, they are following the rules SWA set out. If SWA wants to make the rules to qualify as media you must provide a viewership of X million, then they can. Until that time LET is a media outlet and qualifies. You have some nerve stating they are not exempt when SWA clearly says they are. Next thing you know we will have preboarders faking an injury to get around SWA policies..... @jksobonya wrote: @TheMiddleSeat wrote: So anyone who runs a website is considered "media" nowadays? --TheMiddleSeat Exactly ... this guy has some nerve to try to get around SWA policies by claiming to be exempt because he is with the "media".
