I think I know the answer but I would like to confirm. So I have flight fund credit and I would like to use it and book a subsequent trip... I am jsut wondering if there are any restrictions with that "new" trip if I were to need to cancel again? I am assuming that if I have to cancel this new flight and I would get the appropriate credit back in my account again and I would be able to use it for a "third" attempt at a reservation with the only caveat being having to use it by the original purchase date of the very first initial ticket purchase? Am I assuming correctly?

Yes, everything you stated is correct. Book, cancel, book, cancel as much as you want, expiration date remains the same, one year from the original purchase date.
