I don't need the tax implications of winning 1M points. Anyone here know at what level it gets reported to IRS? I'm assuming that 50 point won't be.

@jksobonya You won 50 points. Isn't that the really big prize? Better than the rest of us. 🙂

My 5:45am flight OKC-HOU this morning (Tuesday) was not full. It wasn't empty, but it wasn't full either. That's the first time in a few weeks that that has been the case.

Bah. The problem isn't people getting drunk on the plane. If anything, it is people getting drunk at the airport so perhaps they should ban alcohol sales there.

If you are pre-boarding, you are allowed to have one person pre-board with you. I saw this enforced a couple of weeks ago. Someone was pre-boarding in a wheelchair, and they had like 6 people who tried to pre-board with them. They got really upset when they were told no. "Never heard of such a thing", they said. However, last week, I saw an elderly lady pre-board with a child of maybe 3 or so on her lap with what I presume to be the child's mother, and the gate agent simply asked if was her grandson and smiled. It is a matter of just what is reasonable. If your concern is just getting three seats together, and you want to pre-board because the child is autistic, and you want to get settled in with her, just ask. That won't be a problem, and, again, gate agents will be reasonable if you are. Remember that the child will have to wear a mask on the plane. If they ask, make sure you say they can. Do not be ambiguous or say anything other than a firm yes.

I've flown 32 times so far this year, and the FA's have been consistently friendly as always. There was once or twice when there wasn't a service, and there probably should have been, but that happened occasionally before as well. If you think Southwest flight attendants aren't friendly enough, then you are going to have to fly a Middle Eastern airline like Emirates (I work for a Saudi company so I do a lot). Even then, they aren't more friendly. They are just very polite while being professional.

Has anyone else checked out the newly remodeled restrooms across from Pappadeaux at Hobby? Serious props. It is really nice. Very European. The door to the toilets are something you never see in the US. It is wonderful. The only downside is that the water from the taps is freaking hot. Darn near burned my hands.

I've literally been on well over a thousand flights in my life on many different airlines. I have witnessed multiple medical situations including an international flight that was briefly quarantined until the CDC had an official come to investigate the situation (that was a little scary). I have not, however, ever witnessed any type of fight, disagreement, security issue, or situation that involved the police or someone being removed from a flight. This stuff is anecdotal and sensationalist.

Also note that they are asking before boarding if a child is going to be able to wear a mask for the whole flight. If the child is two, for the love of G-d, say yes. Any other answer like "I hope", "maybe", or "no" will probably result in you not being allowed on the flight.

@SWFlyer007 See the following page: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/extra-seat/index-pol.html If you don't want to deal with having to get a refund, he can just request the seat at the check-in counter or even the gate. They will make it work including overselling the flight if necessary.

@Jer777 I, for one, agree that it is too much to expect a 2 year old to wear a mask. However, given that this is an FAA rule, I do not want FA's having any leniency. I don't say this to be harsh. It is simply a broader safety concern. FA's need to follow FAA rules and not be changing things. Given that the new variants are increasingly virulent in children, I'm not sure I'd want a 2 year old flying without a mask. As the father of an 8 year old daughter, I desperately hope that a vaccine is approved for young children soon.

@jesse_22 1) I can't comment on the terminals. That's going to vary from airport to airport. With Southwest, I'm almost exclusively OKC and Houston Hobby. Both of which are okay, but not spectacular. I've been in many regular and business class lounges. The only first class lounge I've ever been in is the Emirates First Class Lounge in Dubai where I had foeie gras and filet mignon served by a waiter. I really do need to check out Alaska in SEA. 2) Alaska Airlines 737-900 has 31-32 inch pitch. SWA 737-700 has 31. SWA 737-800 (max and non) has 32-33. Of course, that doesn't tell the full story as seat padding, etc, can make a difference. I definitely notice a difference between the -700 and the -800 though. 3) I do not fly long flights on SWA so I don't notice the lack of power. However, this is a weakness with SWA. 4) SWA has free movies, messaging, and free live tv. 5) I like the new snack mix. Again, I do not fly long enough flights to have much of an opinion. 6) For years, I refused to fly Southwest because I thought the seating policy was asinine. It is a mixed bag. I guess that it depends upon how it does for you. The lining up by number is certainly more orderly than boarding by zones. I have never flown on Alaska though I've heard good things. One day, I'd like to try. I do miss having a first class option with Southwest (where all the seats are first class). My single favorite thing about Southwest is that everyone is happy. Passengers, crew, and staff. I contrast that with say United where everyone always seems unhappy.

@pronto December 2019, I had tickets to see the Nutcracker with my family. Sunday, as I was getting ready to go, I realized that I had actually bought tickets for Saturday. I realized that I was the one who made the mistake. Oklahoma City Ballet got over $250 for a show that I didn't see. It was MY mistake. I didn't call up and demand my money back. I didn't go online and rant about how I was robbed. I realized that I was responsible for checking the rules, and that it was MY mistake. Fortunately, I took my daughter out to a nice lunch, and I was (thankfully) about it get tickets for the following Sunday. I'm an adult, and I take responsibility for my actions.

@bec102896 I've had them do this before. I have lost weight, and I'm honestly pushing it now, but I'll keep doing it as long as I can. The only empty seat on the plane was next to me. When I was doing this, I heard them tell someone else that he was 4th on the bump list, and that he would probably get it.

Yeah. That was the check-in line. I didn't have to check a bag, but I wanted to get an extra seat. I just went to the gate and did it there. But, they didn't open the desk until 40 minutes before the flight since everyone was working check in until the last minute. Flight was completely full. Oversold even. They still gave me an extra seat even though i meant an additional voluntary bump.

I went to check in this morning in OKC, and the line was snaked around down the lobby and back and out the door and down the sidewalk. It was 4:30 in the morning. Seriously? And, it is only going to get worse. I do not understand why there isn't an A-List line. The justification that they aren't busy enough just doesn't ring true. FF get relatively few benefits on Southwest, and this one doesn't cost them anything other than an extra sign. I can't imagine what it is going to look like in a few more weeks.

I wish that companies would stay out of politics. I generally keep my politics to myself because all I do is piss off someone or someone else (and, often everyone). All of this virtue signaling is getting annoying. I will say that I'm not so simple minded as to only do business with people that I agree with on every issue.

I had a flight at 10pm on American from Dallas to OKC cancelled due to weather (no hotel, etc). Turns out that the weather was a flight at 6am that morning out of DC. They were claiming weather from a knock on effect more than 12 hours before. If you start saying you won't fly on an airline because you got screwed over, you will soon find that you are walking or driving. All airlines treat passengers badly. Southwest is about the least terrible of no good choices.
