I sold my Southwest stock at a loss early this year.
Going forward with the planned dividends this month will just provide additional fodder to Congress.

My guess is that for whatever reason (plane downgrade?), you no longer have a confirmed seat, and you are now on standby.

My turn to rant. I am/was flying FLL-MCO-OKC today. The FLL-MCO flight was canceled. I get through on the phone at 3:30 this morning. They change my reservation so that we are just doing the not canceled MCO-OKC flight. I rent a car and drive to MCO to be told that the plane had been downgraded, and we are now standby (AL+ doesn’t help). If we do not make it, we will be IDB and be compensated accordingly. Not that our flight is canceled, we just don’t have a seat. Next possible flight is, of course, Saturday. Wait. Actually, I have a seat, but my wife and 10 year old daughter do not. So, if they do not make it on the flight, I will have to leave them behind or voluntarily give up my seat with no compensation. So, defend Southwest if you wish. I always have in the past. Not today. I hope the DOT screws them hard. Sold my SWA stock at a loss last year. Dodged a bullet.

It must be nice. My flight was canceled, and I was not rescheduled. It says that I can reschedule online, but I get an error when I try. It says that I need to see a ticket agent. I certainly won't be calling because it is always busy.
My big issue right now, besides getting home, is that I only brought one extra day of prescription meds that I need to, well, live. Not sure what I will be doing come Wednesday night.

@spacecoastbill You get on in A1-15, and you choose to sit in a row with someone when there is basically a whole empty plane? Um... Why? Oh, and for the record, if someone is saving a seat, they will invariably sit in the aisle seat. Sorry, but I call BS on this one.
@swavegastravel I will use small words so that you understand. Very, very, very, very few people are unable to walk a short distance. With very, very, very, very few exceptions, people with a wheelchair get out of the chair at the airplane door and walk to their seat. Then, when the plane lands, they walk off the plane where there is a wheelchair waiting for them. Just because you see them walk off the plane doesn't mean that a miracle occurred. It means that they did what 99.9% of people in wheelchairs do at airports.

I pre-board. I fly almost every week, and I get an extra seat under the customer of size policy. The seats are 17 inches wide, and my chest, shoulder to shoulder is 21 inches. I'm 5'10 and 270lbs. Do I abuse the system? I meet the criteria for the extra seat though honestly, people much larger than me usually don't get an extra seat. I've had Southwest employees say that I shouldn't have an extra seat, but 21 > 17.
So, I pre-board every week. Sometimes I don't because I almost always have a boarding pass under A20, but sometimes when I haven't, they've called my name to come pre-board so it is just easier. I see who pre-boards. I do not see people scamming. I see old people. I see physically broken people (who I would not want to trade places with though no doubt it will be me one day). I've never heard anyone talk about scamming the system, and anyone who says they have, I call BS. The world doesn't work like that. If you "pull one over", you keep your mouth shut at the time. You don't advertise what you are doing. It is a great story, but it is crap. It is like stories of people buying lobster with food stamps and then leaving in a brand new Mercedes.
In all my time at the airport, I've never seen anyone board with "extra time". Does Southwest give people pre-board who should probably be "extra time"? Yes, I think so. Does it matter? Is that the thing that really what upsets you in the world?
Honestly, as someone who has literally flown thousands of flights all over the world from the cheapest to international first class (I usually do international in business class, but first class is even better), I do not understand why anyone would pay for Business Select. I love Southwest, but for the price of Business Select, you can almost certainly fly first class on another carrier. Southwest in any seat isn't as good as first class on American, United, or Delta (I've never flown on Alaska though I hear it is great). If your employer will pay for BS on Southwest, you should see if they will pay for first class somewhere else (American is the best for domestic first class in the US, btw).

@blsinmd A customer of size pre-boards. I don't care if s/he can run a marathon. The pre-boarding is to ensure that they get two seats together.
As for "miracle flight", I'm assuming you use term for people who go down the jetway in a wheelchair and then walk off the plane. Since we all seem to be in the mood for repeating things over and over again, that's a seriously ignorant thing to say. Few people are unable to walk at least a short distance. Virtually all of the people who go down the jetway in a wheelchair get up and walk to their seat once they reach the door. Then, when the flight lands, they walk off the plane to where a wheelchair is waiting for them at the door. Just because you saw them walk off the plane doesn't mean a miracle occurred. They still need a wheelchair, but not to get on and off the plane.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in Africa (and the Middle East), I understand. It is common in both of those regions, but it isn't really done in the US. You MAY be able to get your bag wrapped at LAX. As people said, there is no assurances that the TSA won't cut the wrap, but TSA bag searches aren't as common as they used to be. You probably would be okay. In the US, we frequently us TSA locks. They are locks that the TSA can open. As is the case with wrapping a bag, they won't stop a determined thief, but they are enough to slow them down and make them think that another bag is an easier target.

I appreciate the military. You do an important job. I just wish so many military members weren't so entitled. Southwest lets military members in uniform board between A and B. That's a cause to thank Southwest, not find fault for not giving more special privileges.

@navjag03 Actually, Southwest's policy is one person is allowed to accompany preboarders. Unfortunately, this policy is not always enforced. However, most times when I see it not properly enforced, it involves families with multiple children.
As for seat saving and open seating, Southwest doesn't have a policy on seat saving. Saying they aren't enforcing their open seating policy assumes a definition of "open seat". I've only saved a seat once for my wife and then 6 year old daughter. Those seats weren't open. My wife and daughter were the occupants. They just hadn't boarded yet.

The administration offered no resistance. No attempt to appeal. Heck, they didn't even attempt to stall a day or two. The administration wanted to drop the mandate, and this gave them the political cover they felt they need.

@MarcelM Your first flight in 2 years. This morning, on my 28th flight on Southwest this year, you could count on one hand the number of people wearing masks. The flight was completely full so that's a lot of people saying that they do not want to wear masks. Not sure who did that poll, but evidence seems to indicate otherwise.
I was as pro-mask as anyone, but times have changed. I will, however, be getting my fourth vaccine this coming weekend.

@kDub2022 "Preboarding is available for Customers who have a specific seating need to accommodate their disability and/or need assistance in boarding the aircraft or stowing an assistive device. If a Customer with a disability simply needs a little extra time to board, we will permit the Customer to board before Family Boarding, between the “A” and “B” groups."
I do not make the policy for Southwest or any other airline. That's what Southwest says. Take it up with them.
I've never actually seen anyone board in the "needs a little extra time" category though they always announce it.

@kDub2022 Many pre-boarders have limited mobility or other issues. One big reason for pre-boarding (besides the legal requirement) is to allow them to be in the first few rows.

Yes. Airlines do not pay commission. In some rare cases, supposedly, tickets bought through consolidators do not count (not relevant to Southwest). With that said, yes, they will count.
Where the problem could arise is with hotel stays. Rooms booked through an online travel agency (OTA) generally do not get credit. However, a travel management system is not the same as an OTA. At my employer, we use Concur, and I have always gotten credit for hotel stays. My understanding on Concur is that it depends, however.

@parpitt1 I suspect that the threat came after @sandybeachs1981 refused to immediately return the bag. She's complaining that the employee refused to help her find a solution. The employee gave her the only acceptable solution, and that is that her husband immediately get into his car and drive back to the airport with the bag. They didn't like it and sought a solution more amenable to them. That is when the employee did what they were forced to do.
At first, I was willing to give them some points for at least calling Southwest and reporting what happened, but then after a moment of thought, I realized that they did this because they wanted to get their own bag back. They probably wanted Southwest to have a courier bring their bag to them and take back the errant bag.

@sandybeachs1981 I disagree. I believe that the Southwest employee did entirely the right thing. You, through your carelessness, caused injury to someone else, and the Southwest employee demanded that you take immediate steps to fix the damage that you caused. You do not know the circumstances of the gentleman who's bags your carelessness and thoughtlessness caused you to take. He could have had a critical job interview or business meeting the next morning. He could be going to his child's wedding.
If you were 2 hours from the airport, that means it was at least 4 hours after the flight landed that you deigned to return his bag. Rather than wait for you, he was probably trying to get a few hours sleep.
You may have caused enormous damage to someone else, and your thoughts are on how inconvenienced you were. Sorry, but I find that appalling. I hope that you wrote an apology note and attached it to the bag.
