This might not be the official solution but if where you sit or who you sit with is important to you, don't fly an airline that doesn't allow you to reserve a specific seat. SWA is, usually, the lowest costs and most efficient option for me. But given all the BS with TSA, gate agents allowing oversize bags, the ever growing line of disabled pre-boarders, seat saving, now the whole masks thing, I'm driving. I can afford the extra time and the extra costs to completely do away with the extra hassle of flying. Or, when the time comes in a couple months, I will close my eyes, hold my breath, and line up with the rest of the cattle 🙂

If a FA tells a passenger to put their mask back on and the passenger refuses then the passenger is violating the law that says you must comply with the flight crew’s directions.

I can do it in three days. But I might take my time. Yes, it will cost more. Maybe twice as much. And yes, I might end up flying. I have some credit from a cancelled trip so... And yes, for the most part, the FAs on SWA are great. Still, if I were going today, I’d drive.

Been looking for an excuse to stop flying. Tired of the rude and just plain stupid people both employees and passengers, and myself in that same category of course. I can drive coast to coast in less than three days. Or take my time and see the sights. happy travels everyone. Wave down at me as you fly by.

A long long time ago SW stewardesses would announce, as the jet taxied to the gate, “Please remain seated until the Captain has turned off the seatbelt sign. Then jump into the aisle and push and shove your way forward. Remember the harder you push the faster you get off.”

Driving to the airport is literally more dangerous than flying on the plane. Don't get drunk if you're flying with kids, (it's never a good idea to get drunk for or on a flight anyway). I've flown all over the country and all over the world and the worst thing I've ever had was a bumpy yet perfectly safe landing in Las Vegas. Take a deep breath, calm yourself, and be an example for your children.

SWA can certainly do something about preboard abuse. Anyone who needs extra time to board the plane should be provided with extra time to exit the plane. Preboarders seats should be marked and, upon arrival, they should be required to remain in their seats until everyone else leaves the plane. That would, I expect, cut the number of preboarders in half.

SWA is not refunding any nonrefundable fares, stop calling the 800 number! Everyone trying to get a refund on their nonrefundable fares needs to stop calling the 800 number, it's not going to happen unless SWA changes their policy and you are making it hard for people that need to talk to someone at SWA. Maybe SWA will change their policy, but I doubt it as there are no travel restrictions in the USA.

And your flight attendant. Oh wait, they probably discourage passengers from wiping down their flight attendants. But then, you can't be too careful. 🙂 Safe travels.

I agree jksobonya, but "hacking and coughing incessantly" doesn't sound like allergies. It sounds like someone who is too sick to fly and should not have been allowed on the plane.

Why would SWA ever allow someone like this to fly? Coronavirus or not, this is just stupid. We need to let SWA know, via the contact link, that this is unacceptable. SWA is setting themselves up for a class action suit from everyone who gets ill on a flight where SWA allows Obviously Ill Passengers to board.

scottsdalemirag, I pray for your fast and full recovery and hope you are able to fly again soon. That said, I've reported this thread to the mods as it contains personal information. I don't understand why you post your own phone number and cancellation number on a public forum or why you expect to receive a refund if you purchased a nonrefundable fare.

These laws are in place to, in part, protect the dignity of people who legitimately need extra time in boarding the plane. I don't think that they should be changed because some people are willing to sell their souls for a better seat on SWA. If where you sit, or with whom you sit is important to you then you should book your flights on an airline that allows you to reserve your seats up front. (For an extra charge of course but then if you consider EB...) For me, SWA is usually the most convenient and least expensive option. I don't really care where I sit but I do seem to get more and more frustrated seeing the ever growing line of pre boarders and seat savers. Each time I fly I take a second look at the other options and have, from time to time, chosen other airlines so I don't have to deal with this nonsense. Unless SWA can get this under control on their own I expect to be using those other airlines a lot more in the future.

You are right TheMiddleSeat. Depending on the flight, the number of pre boarders and family boarders, and A1-15 boarders, purchasing Early Bird and checking in exactly 24 hours in advance will probably get a good enough position to find three unoccupied and non-saved seats together. But if if were my kids I wouldn't chance it.

Better check the rules, https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/faq Q: Is there any DOT regulation for kicking people off flights, not related to over-booking? I know some airlines will not allow passengers to board or will remove them from the plane for being smelly (not related to a disability or illness), not dressing properly, etc. A: An airline can refuse to transport a passenger to the extent permitted by the airline’s contract of carriage so long as the refusal is not discriminatory. Airlines typically include language in their contract of carriage listing the various reasons that they may refuse transport or remove an individual from a flight. For example, airlines may refuse to transport an individual who appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. An airline may also refuse transport passengers for a number of other reasons including refusing to transport an individual who attempts to interfere with the duties of a flight crew member. We note that FAA regulations state that “no person may assault, threaten, intimidate, or interfere with a crewmember in the performance of the crewmember’s duties aboard an aircraft being operated.”

Here are my recommendations, and I'm not a doctor or anything like that, but I do travel a bit. 1. Bring your own food and drinks. But them at the expensive gift shop past security. You don't want to drink water or coffee or tea made on the plane and you don't want to drink from a cup handed to you by a flight attendant holding the brim of the cup who, just before takeoff, has literally ran their hands across the front of all of the overhead bins on the plane. 2. Bring your own hand sanitize. Buy a small travel site bottle and bring it with you in your carry on. Use it before you eat or drink anything while on the plane and after visiting the plane's bathroom. 3. Don't touch anything or put anything in the seat back compartment. 4. Don't use or even touch any airplane blankets or pillows. I'm not for wiping down the seat and try as I don't fancy rubbing my own hands across these dirty surfaces. I don't use the tray and I wear clothing and a light hoodie so that my own skin doesn't come in contact with the seat. Any other suggestions?

"We cancelled our flight today to arrive in San Antonio on March 26th because San Antonio's Mayor declared a public health emergency after a patient was mistakenly released by CDC from quarantine. 21 people are possibly infected. This woman traveled to a hotel near the airport and ate at North Star Mall and browsed stores. The mall is now being closed to be disinfected." If you are this paranoid then you probably shouldn't fly, or even leave your house too often. Sorry, that's just how I see it. Everyone panicking and giving in the media induced fear is just ridiculous. Here you go: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html Have Fear! No, I wouldn't book a trip to China right now, but San Antonio? Yeah, just stay home.

If it's important that any or all of you sit together, and it would be for me with kids this age, then you should consider booking on an airline that lets you reserve your seats in advance. SWA does not. If you go with SWA then at least purchase the Early Bird for all three tickets. Early Bird won't guarantee you A or B assignments but it might help.
