I agree with the posting by Spacecoastbill: On my flight a couple of days ago, a tall passenger was about to sit in an open emerg row seat (I was close behind him). The passenger sitting there said the two seats were saved. The other side emerg seats were already taken. Long story short, the FA DID intervene and told the sitting passenger that it IS OPEN seating and that he couldn't stop this other passenger from sitting there. Of course, the sitting passenger got loud and complained. In no uncertain terms, the FA (who I knew and has the demeanor of a Marine Corp Drill Instructor) warned the passenger he could be kicked off the aircraft for noncompliance (following the verbal directives of the FA). He, too, got up and moved, grumbling. Myself, if I don't get the emerg row, I got to the back of the aircraft and get an isle seat. Then, for my entertainment, I watch as some passengers try to put oversized luggage in the overheads,..and watch the FAs roll their eyes.

@dfwskier To me, the biggest difference between in a car and a plane is control of the situation...I did a lot of amateur racing in a Mitsubishi IX with a full roll cage, HANS device and 5 point harness...you couldn't feel more "trapped" per se, but subconsciously I knew I could always "get out" if I wanted; never did because I never "felt" trapped....you don't have that choice in a plane. The main reason I fly Southwest is because the Southwest fleet of 100% 737's have a bigger and more open "feel" to them and are not as confining as an E-175 with 1x2 rows...I can't in fly those types of planes....

That is what her adult sons do. Pre board, then mix in with the other boarding passengers and grab the emerg row seats. I don't see how they get by with that with the FAs watching. Both sons are 6'4" and like the extra room in the emerg row seats.

I am AList, spend a lot of money on this card to get this status and stand there in disbelief as most of the time 10-15 people pre-board and most have no trouble boarding, no wheelchairs etc. It is ridiculous the amount of people who claim pre- board status. Physically disabilities aside it is much more prevalent in this airline than others. Today out of St. Louis people with water bottles and workout clothes are pre- boarding. And it is a sham in most cases, all comments about anxiety, dogs, etc. aside.
Apparently you do not understand that Southwest is merely complying with federal law. By law:
!) Southwest CANNOT ask anyone why he/she needs to pre board
2) Southwest MUST allow anyone who claims a need to pre board to do so.
Now I don't pre board, but I do have sciatica. By my disability, I would be allowed to pre board.
I don't need a wheel chair. Sometimes my condition causes me a whole lot of problems. Other times it does not. Lots of people with various disabilities do not need a wheel chair.
If you don't like the law, contact your members of congress and tell them you want to see it changed. Until that happens Southwest IS REQUIRED to follow federal law

I hope you enjoy your overpriced flights on the other guys.
BTW you'll be flying with a bunch of unvac'ed passengers -- who outnumber crew by as much as 50 to 1.
Thus since your risk of catching the bug from a fellow passenger is up to 50 times greater than from crew, instead of flying, I suggest you find a kitchen table to hide under.

it isn't "HIPPA", its "HIPAA". And, its not against the law to ask on the basis of HIPAA since Southwest is not a covered entity and does not have "protected health information" or "PHI".
Please refrain from making comments on items that are not known to you.

“ Lets also give that to police and firefighters as well, and the retirees as well.” Absolutely. Military, police, firefighters, all who put their lives on the line for our safety. It world really show where SWA stands if they allowed all true heroes and their families to board first. I’d gladly step aside.

You probably don’t know that, as of today, 56% of US population is injected. A lot of nurses got fired because they refused to be injected. Ask “why”?

Just FYI @ffflyer it would be best to start a separate thread on your own question, but the answer is “no” because you would have to check in with another boarding pass and board the plane twice. Customers of Size have this option as discussed above, and I believe musicians can purchase a second seat for things like cellos. There may be a few other exceptions I’m not aware of, but they all involve bringing something onboard that can’t go in an overhead bin.

I'm avoiding crowded places, not traveling to the places with high infection for multiple reasons. But requiring masked flight attendants to be vaccinated, especially when surrounded by many more passengers of unknown vaccination status is good. Vaccination has not been proven effective at reducing transmission that's not true. But vaccination lowers community transmission.More vaccines means less transmission.

@SS555 wrote: . If SWA has a policy of no seat-saving, then people need to comply and SWA needs to enforce. It’s not fair to those that check-in on time to let latecomers get prime seats because their friend saved it for them. But Southwest DOES NOT have a policy that prohibits seat saving. Seat saving allows families with different boarding positions to sit together. I suspect that is important to more than a handful of travelers. You keep trying to force the issue and eventually someone will give you a black eye.

There are no requirements but if you’re going to take an airline that doesn’t require their employees to be vaccinated to visit a high risk state then do yourself a favor and tested after the trip. https://covidactnow.org/us/virginia-va/

If it’s acceptable to you to expose your child to a high risk city on an airline that does not require it’s employees to be vaccinated, then you should probably at least get the poor kid tested after the trip. Chicago

Sorry to hear of your problem, but you are dealing with a federal regulation. Southwest has no control in the matter. If you want to complain, You should contact your elected federal reps

@John1158 I see people get up and walk off the plane, but they usually get in a wheelchair once they are through the cabin door. They also walk onto the plane. Most people in wheelchairs at the airport can walk, but they can't walk long distances. I suspect that they are gone by the time you get off the plane, and you assume that they walked up the jet bridge.

Not sure about the purpose behind your smarmy "rant." Southwest is already one of the worst airlines when it comes to forcing paying customers to smother themselves with medical devices (face masks). The flight attendants, gate agents, and even some ramp workers who work here are some of the most hypocritical people on the face of this planet. They'll deny you boarding for not social distancing, yet they themselves HUG each other in the gate (you often see this while waiting for your flight). Another classic case of rules for thee, but not for me. I'm not sure how "bully passengers" applies here when passengers have no power. The U.S. government steals our money through taxation and gives it to criminal corporations like airlines. EVERYONE could boycott Southwest today...and it would still be in business because the Federal Reserve keeps printing money and giving it back to the airlines. The ostensible "private ownership" of Southwest is a mere illusion. The ONLY reason I fly Southwest is because they allow you to choose your own seat; that's about it. Other than that, none of the employees have any redeeming qualities.

My biggest problem with EVERY OTHER AIRLINE? Having to pay exorbitant fees to put a bag in the baggage hold, then watching idiots fight for bin space with bags that are too big. Want to bring home a $20 bottle of special wine or spirits? Oops, it just cost you $30 to check that bag. That bottle isn't cheap anymore. Tell me again why you care where you sit?

Exactly!! Just because you have a cold doesn’t mean you should be kicked off the plane. That’s ridiculous!! If masks work and everyone has to wear them then embrace it. The common cold, flu , allergies and mucus still exist . Like they always have. If ya have a serious fear of getting COVID-19 then why aren’t you in quarantine? Just saying

The policy is that you can remove your mask briefly to eat. That is said repeatedly at boarding and on board. Last week, I heard an announcement that the new policy was that you must replace your mask between bites. I'd sure like to see that be true.

We are both tall so we go for the exit rows or the back of the plane. Again...it’s about not being in the face of others. SW rarely schedules their flights so close that you have to sprint off the plane. Judging from the attitude exhibited it’s a matter of not understanding/caring of how to be nice to your neighbor.

Southwest runs a lot of point to point flights. You might not be having weather, but somewhere along the way there might be. For example SW 1370 today will fly from Denver to Baltimore to Nashville to Houston. Lets say your flight from Nashville to Houston is cancelled even though there are no weather problems at either Nashville or Houston. There might be weather problems in Denver or Baltimore that prevent the plane from ever getting to Nashville. Thus a cancelled flight.

Don’t ever connect to free wifi anywhere. Bad guys can easily set up hotspots with the same name as the legitimate free wifi and steal all the information on your phone while you browse the SWA app or anything else. Grt an unlimited plan from your cellphone provider. Free wifi is never worth the risk.

@reneepasley Yes, I understand learning styles very well. In fact, I teach a section on it in my college skills course. Learning styles refer to a range of competing and contested theories that aim to account for differences in individuals' learning. Many theories share the proposition that humans can be classified according to their 'style' of learning, but differ in how the proposed styles should be defined, categorized and assessed.
