I had a Customer yesterday check in for the afternoon flight to Nashville. Our small conversation led to him telling me the reason for his travel. Our Customer had flown to Houston after a 3 am phone call from the medical examiners office. His 22 year old son had been killed in a car accident and we were also carrying his son to Nashville on the early evening flight. I assured the distraught Father I would make sure the crew and agents all knew the precious value of our shipment on that fllight. One thing for sure when a Customer is getting on an airplane it is not always for fun or business. I am thankful that we now provide this service to our Customers.

I would love to see the film and cannot imagine how inspired students across the country would be once they viewed it. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation may be interested or even Oprah. I hope this timely piece does not sit on a shelf and collect dust.

For those people who say they will never fly SWA again, please use your real name. For those who do not like the COS policy grab a cocktail napkin and start your own damn airline. For those of you who do not realize full refunds for the 2nd seat are issued if the flight is not full now you know. For those of you who do not appreciate the fact that is a free country and there are many choices when you travel shop around. YOU'LL BE BACK. The same policy is practiced by most US carriers.

Spring is in the air, if not for Sports Illustated, too short of skirts and now an unfortunate experience with a Customer of Size it is almost like Ground Hog Day. Spring is near and the press loves a hot topic. Nobody at SWA is here to embarass or disrespect anybody, this policy is difficult to enforce, approach, gage from all points of view ( no pun intended ). We serve over 100 million valued Customers , we donate time and money to Ronald McDonald House, Donate 100's of trips to various causes including Honor Flights, Home for the Holidays and Make a Wish. My proudest moment was in New Orleans -- We were the last airline to leave and the first back in after Katrina. Other carriers just left their Customers there stranded , SWA sent in employees from other cities to get folks out, allow New Orleans employees to get their plans made and out of harms way. Where was the press for that ? Why were you not covering what the airline industry did to move folks out ? SWA is defined by many great things and I do not believe for a minute anybody went out of their way to make a scene, embarass or harass Mr Smith. I speak for many , we are sorry for this unfortunate situation and hope this passes soon. So much energy could be used for much greater causes.

No doubt the TSA worker used to work for SWA, we have allowed escort passes for military travel and no limit on family or friends if I am the agent on duty. Be careful if I see a camera because I will insist on taking pictures and have posted them on Facebook asking for prayers to ensure a safe anc quick return.

The only thing I could think of for you to add to your post is that you met on Southwest Airlines. I love your story and want to thank you for allowing us to be your choice for the rides of your life. Southwest will get you there and you won't need to hold onto your wallet.

David in Nashville, if SWA could fill planes in and out of Nashville they would be. In the 80's who knew 911, fuel prices and the stinking economy would wipe out Customer demand? SWA flies where the Customer demand is. Times have changed and just ask yourself what would airfares be if SOUTHWEST never flew. Nashville is not the only city who feels underserved and cheated but the bottem line is the bottem line. I am sorry you feel so rejected.

I had a Customer who was running late with his family in tow tell me he needed us to stop boarding because he had to have the front row because his son kicks the entire flight. It was too late to stop boarding and I just informed him that if the front row was gone his wife could sit next to kicking son and the father could sit in the seat in front of the kicking son. How is that for quick thinking? I will bet the father cured that kid of all that kicking.

After working in Southwest Airlines Baggage Service Office I realized the more information you give in detail about the item you lost the easier it would be to identify once located. I encourage anybody who will listen to put those return address labels on everything from your cell phone, camera, passport, laptop, cane, wheelchair, walker, purse, wallet, video player, i-pod, walkman or any item you have that you would like back if lost. If anything found or turned in has a name on it we will page you in the airport or hunt you down through your travel history. If you loose something do not have a secretary, wife or girfriend call. Third party inquiries are too much trouble. I have lost my cell phone 3 times and if it had not been for that sticker with my info I would never had it returned to me. The back of my drivers liscense has my cell phone number on it with a Sharpie marker and yes I have been called when I left it at a vegatable market. If something is lost and it has a name on it with contact information it is less likely to be lost forever.

I am sure Alaska Airlines has never ever had a delayed or cancelled flight. If they did it would not be a later flight the same night it would be tomorrow. When an airplane goes out of service they have to reroute other airplanes to keep the schedule as smooth as possible. We wish t we never had equipment problems but when we do we try to inconvenience as few a Customer as possible. I am sorry nobody offered you peanuts or a cocktail, I would have along with an apology. Here is to clear skies, safe trips and on time departures.

How about good old fashioned manners? It amazes me how seldom you hear Excuse Me, Pardon Me, Thank You, I am sorry. We have become a nation of rage, let us all take a break from our cell phones, blackberry, i-pods and make a little eye contact and acknowledge each other in a civil way. Just like the Beatles song the phrase and in the end it is the love you make not the love you take. I think we need a National Holiday for Good Manners.

If you load first and try to save seats, you can save those seats until somebody wants them. Seat saving is fine until a Customer boards and wants the unseated seats. This is not new and it is no different then when a A Customer holds for a C friend. The B Customer that wants that saved seat can claim it if they so desire. Come on people now smile on your brother everybody get together let us love one another right now. Southwest Airlines carries over 100 million Customers a year, this FEEture will either work or won't. Remember new Coke? If the demand is not there they will not keep it around. Some people especially seniors who do not fly often enough to be in the A group who have to show proof of age to check in will gladly pay the 10.00 to have a shot at boarding earlier than others.

My heavens it is an optional 10.00 fee for a shot at being checked in automatically, without having to hover over your computer to be a lower number. You pay more for better seats at concerts, baseball and football games, why is this any different? Oh I know it is 10.00 not 120.00 more. If you fly now that school has started you will all be a low number. SWA does not charge for the 1st 2 bags under 50 lbs each, they only charge 25.00 for unaccompanied children vs 100.00 on others, they have more lower fare seats per flight than any carrier I have found, they have the best Frequent Flyer program in the industry, they provide safe, friendly service to most places I want to go. I will not let this Early Bird thing get my worm, I am holding my LUV stock and hedging my bets if it won't work they won't keep it. Grab your bag IT'S ON.

The changes were to keep people from feeling like they had to camp out on the floor to stake out a spot to get a seat. We have gone to assigned feet to avoid assigned seats. This is a small fee to ensure you have a lower number. Just like our Business Select, these are options that give you choices. If we were not offering these items I am affraid you could see higher fares in the future. In this economy it is clear to the leaders that we have had to adjust, some of these changes are to lure new business and all the while keep our loyal Fans. If it will not work and does not produce I can assure you that they will rethink the idea. We always have responded to what our Customers want. Right now we want YOU and as many new Customers as possible to give us a try.

This is just an option for the Customer who wants to be in the A group and did not make the cut. It is perfect for the family who want to be an A, or a large party who want to board together. I prefer my B because it is more important to me to make my own seatmate decision. Having a great seat is less important than a great seatmate. Those C just mean a center seat no matter how you cut it. See you on board, hey save me a seat!

Listening to all the kind words and warm stories that described Senator Kennedy I felt as if they were speaking of an Irishman we all know and love. Senator Kennedy was compassionate, generous, smart, always up for a great debate, committed to his causes, willing to compromise, gave credit to those around him, changed the lives of millions, instilled pride in everybody around him, loved people, loved to serve people, inspiring, great sense of humor, loyal, engaged in the people he loved and those he was with. Does any of this sound familiar? I hope Herb knows how much we LUV him, how thankful we are for what he has given us ,how hard we all know he has worked, how much time and LUV he has put into SWA for US. I speak for many Herb, we love you and are so lucky to have you in our lives.

Meals on Wheels is a fabulous charity with so many servant hearts volunteering, wouldn't it be wonderful if we would all challenge ourselves to seek out a neighbor who needs the same type of help and step up so that these volunteers could serve those who have nobody. Get in touch with your church or senior center and seek out a close by senior who needs an occasion ride, grocery store or drug store pick up, a nice home cooked meal or just a little visit. Meals on Wheels is struggling with donations down and drivers not able to afford gasoline. We could all do a better job of being a good nieghbor.
