This story reminds me of the time I was travelling to Yellowstone : a whirlwind 3 day tour including an overnight drive on Day 1 from Salt Lake City, after catching the last plane in. However, my plane out of Philly was late, and i was doomed to miss my connection in Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. SWA held the last flight out of Las Vegas to Salt Lake City for 1.5 hrs, to accomodate the 6 passengers. If I hadn't made that flight, I'd probably just have gone back rather than waste the entire trip travelling.
I was not so lucky travelling Delta this time, a tight connect at Atlanta where the doors closed a couple of minutes before I arrived (I had asked on the ground and in the air to notify the gate, which Delta claimed they "did not do"). I spent a weekend sulking in Paris, instead of enjoying the fjords in Norway.
SWA is the best airline in the US by a distance !

Just wanted to voice continued confusion with the Nashville cuts. First, East-West traffic is important here and but continuing to cut spokes on both sides over time you're hurting what is left(If you don't believe me go back and look at the Norfolk Airport website and their announcement about Nashville service which touted the western connections, how many people connect from places like Florida in Nashville to go Seattle, and traffic flow of the hub with American). Second, yea you can keep cutting frequencies but eventually you run out if you don't add enough back to keep pace and we WILL eventually lose more cities that way. Third, Nashville would be a perfect stopping place between Charlotte, Atlanta, Memphis, and Cincinnati if you would ever resume growth in the southeast. You're letting a lot of low hanging fruit(BUSINESS TRAVELERS) get away that way while Delta and US Airways thrive off of them. Fourth, Nashville needs a certain amount of connecting traffic and critical mass like its neighbors in Charlotte and Memphis(same population and geography) to truly reach its full potential and for some reason every big airline here has always stopped short of that and they wonder why we don't live up. Lastly, with all of the new businesses and jobs that we have attracted over the years and the fact that we now have as much traffic O&D here as we did with O&D and connecting combined with American, there is no reason why we can't sustain current service and support new at the same time. Not to mention that the planes are ALWAYS full when I fly you guys. Explain to me why this doesn't all make sense because I don't understand it and you're the expert here.

Is southwest going to start announcing what date they're planning to release the next schedules? I thought I read a while ago they were going to start doing this

Hello,
I know it may sound crazy but don't overlook flying to Duluth,MN. Midwest was NWA's only competition and the planes were full. (3 a day)
The same day that NWA bought them it was the end of service to Duluth

Dan,
Please keep coming back. We post a TON of business-related information, and follow a sometimes amazing amount of subsequent discussion, on this site. But yes, we do post some totally non-airline stuff on here. (BTW, if you are a Banana Pudding lover, find my recipe for it. It ROCKS. And the only thing it has to do with Southwest is I promised to the blogosphere for being late posting about a schedule change!)
I'm glad you kept poking around until you found something that interested you--and I really hope you keep coming back. We have lots of content on here--both business- and non-business related, video, pictures, and links to social media. Tune out the stuff you don't want...but stay tuned for the stuff you want. In this economy--in this environment--I think you'll get your fill! Have a great weekend.
Bill

Thank you Bill for your post. My son is one of the 133 who lost his life in 2008. He was a sheriff and loved every minute of his job....my comment is that President Kennedy set aside May 15th as a day of commemoration for officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. This day is part of Police Week to recognize the work and sacrifices of the 700,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officers across this great nation. Every year since it was started, every President attended the May 15th memorial service, except that President Bush (43rd) missed one due to Presidential matters. President Obama chose not to attend or recognize any part of that week. The President did not send anyone to reresent him. I believe he was in town that day
SHAME ON YOU Mr President, as these courages men and women in uniform are the ones that protect you and your family along with the United States Citizens These sacrifices are all selfless and supreme.
SHAME ON YOU

Thank you, Ms. Boyle. I stopped believing in young Cinderella dreams long ago...forget those dreams was what reality convinced me was my only, the one option that wouldn't disappoint me. Your courage to face life, grant the gift of your OUT OF THIS WORLD VOICE, and pursue dreams that reality told you were not possible, struck a note in my heart (to believe again...NOT SINGING, I have been told that I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket and that is true-smile!) Thank you, Ms. Boyle, thank you. Journey

Hi, everyone! Happy Monday!
Rich, I"m not sure what happened to ATA's DCA slot. It's my understanding they had a very small number of them; in any event, Southwest hasn't indicated any plans to start service at National.
Leah, we'll have connecting service between BOS and TUL!
Tony, Southwest remains bullish on our ISP service. The three trips trimmed in this schedule change are all to leisure Florida destinations, and more or less seasonal in nature. However, leisure or not, in this economy we cannot afford to continue to operate flights that aren't popular with our Customers.
Anonymous--you are SO right. Southwest's decreases have been significantly less than those of the other large airlines.
Hope everyone has a GREAT spring week!!!!

I cannot believe that Southwest would cancel the Kansas City to Tulsa flight segment. As a loyal Southwest Rapid Rewards member who flys across the country every week this is disapointing. I will be looking to other airlines for my flights instead of Southwest.

Southwest, I am so excited you are in Minneapolis. I look forward to flying you for the first time from MSP to MDW over Memorial Day weekend. It is about time someone saved us Minnesotans from the stranlgehold NWA and now the New Delta have had on us for so many years. I am already planning on booking another flight to MDW with you guys for early August, and was recently disappointed to learn tha youd don't fly to Palm Springs since you were the first airline I looked at for my flight over Labor Day weekend. Please don't forget about Minneapolis and I look forward to supporting you for many years to come and for you to continue adding new service from MSP.

Hey Bill,
I live in Minneapolis and Southwest has been more expensive on 9 out of 10 flights I have been looking at. If you want to be succesful here, your prices need to be more competitive.

Any update on the possiblity of ever adding Springfield/Branson Missouri? Just back from weekend jaunt from Las Vegas to Springfield this weekend on the miserable Allegiant Airline. My sister has had enough of me and my "Southwest" this and "Southwest" that. Dearest Southwest - why are you letting Allegiant corner the "tourist" market back and forth to Las Vegas? Please-please-please add this route to your schedule!!! Or this Springfield/Branson that unfriendly to airlines tax wise (or stuff I don't understand)? I would think the traffic would be there since Springfield is huge now!

To me, Thanksgiving is unlike our other holidays--and that's why it's my favorite of the year. On the fourth Thursday in November we're not celebrating anyone's birthday, nor a group of fellow Americans, nor a change on the calendar. On Thanksgiving, we simply celebrate thankfulness--being grateful for those we love, for those that love us, those that enrich our lives, those whom we have lost, and all of the blessings (yes, and accomplishments!) that have made our lives better during the previous year. No gifts--only a few parades--just quality time with our family and our friends. Of course, another reason Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year is that it is a major food event. This shouldn't be terribly surprising to anyone, as those that know me (and know how I was raised!) realize that in my family, food is a great complement to love. It never replaces it--but food can certainly strike delicious notes of harmony to the wonderful melody of abiding, loving thankfulness we all are treated to every November. Happy Thanksgiving, all--be thankful--be loving--and be HUNGRY!

Bill,
when I first saw your title I thought it was about whom the graduates from the university in College Station were supporting (Aggie Fors), but I quickly ditched that horrible pun. I do have a hard time, however, visualizing you in a chariot (a la Ben Hur) going around the floor of the Coliseum.
