Yes. You can create a Rapid Rewards account and request points for flights taken in the previous 12 months. After you've created your RR account: To claim points for a past flight, simply log into your account, select My Account and choose the Manage tab within My Rapid Rewards. Choose Request past points in the grey bar and enter your record locator (confirmation number) from your reservation.

I had to cancel a trip last September. I have travel funds available to use. I bought the tickets in July 2016. Do I have to use (take) the other trip by July 2017 or just book my trip by this date?

You don't need a card. You never need to show it, so it's pointless. There's no reason to carry it with you. I actually can't stand carrying around all the various cards I need for grocery stores, drug stores, etc. Luckily, I have an app that stores them all. 😉

You don't actually have an "account" with Southwest for these types of funds. Credits from canceled or re-fared flights are held as "travel funds" under the confirmation number of the original flight. You need to know the confirmation number(s), but can look up the amount(s) available and the expiration date(s) here: View Travel Funds To use these funds, just enter the confirmation number under the payment section when you buy your flight (or give it to the phone rep if you're calling). Keep in mind the following: -- Funds can only be used by the original passenger(s) -- Funds expire one year from the original date of purchase (not date of travel), and all new travel must be completed by then (not just booked) -- When you apply any funds, the entire new reservation (including any new money) takes on the expiration date of the oldest funds applied

Regarding TSA Pre, you've probably already seen several suggestions on these forums but the top tips are: don't rely on automatically importing the number from you profile - type it into the box when you purchase tickets if it didn't show up automatically. It doesn't automatically get added after you buy tickets. Also type it in the box for booking companion pass, if applicable. make sure your name is spelled the same, one of the two isn't using a nickname, etc. call the 800 number and have your KTN added after purchase, but before arrival at the airport at the airport if it doesn't print on your boarding pass, the ticket agent can also add it and reprint (although at this point the time savings may be moot, I'd still do it for keeping shoes on and laptops in my bag).

Correct. The only thing to keep in mind is that Southwest requires point earning activity every two years or they will close your account and you will lose all your accumulated points. Keeping the credit card means that will never happen.

2Sweetbj: Wow. You really don't get it do you? Clearly you DON'T need to rethink with whom you travel with these days, because if you truly traveled often, you wouldn't be complaining about a petty issue and a small amount of change--$28.01 down to the penny (You'll spend more than that on lunch at the airport.) because you would already know no other airline would ever offer you as much. Southwest Air is the most generous airline, yet you complain? Go ahead and find another airline that is as flexible, offers 2 FREE checked bags, free carry-ons, has open seating, has an easy-to-navigate website where you easily see what is available to book and can package your own best "round trip" flights, easily allows customers to watch fares and get credits by rebooking, is fun and friendly during a flight, and whose cocktail napkins make you smile as much as theirs do. Regardless of "there" (their) systems "gliche" (glitch), they are not holding your "OWN" money. Even if it was their fault, they make the rules, and I consider them more than fair to the customer. They are generously offering you a credit of the price difference (think of it as a "coupon") for a future flight to compensate you because you decided to change your flight for whatever reason and the price was lower than what you originally paid. No one is holding your cash. They are just being NICE to offer a credit without even asking you to pay a change fee like most other airlines (+$200 per ticket). As far as your traveling one day after the expiration date--why didn't you travel the day prior or even earlier? They gave you a YEAR and they fly 365 days a year! That's more than fair. So sick of greedy people.

Are you buying a Southwest gift card? If so, that's a very bad redemption value use of points. Just book the flights for her. In general, using point for anything other than Southwest flights loses about half of the value of the points. Or more. FYI: When there is a points "sale," they are most often extra value offers, As in, "earn 30% bonus points." Of the last 5 points offers I received, only one was "save 30% on points," which was in April of 2016

I just started buying the earlybird checkin. I love it, at my age, the more I can simplify my plans especially for travel enjoyment, is most important! Airports are becoming more scary every day, I feel very comfortable with SW airlines, I read to see what steps to take, SW narrative is easy to follow. Keep up the good works! Thanks SW, I'm looking forward to flying continuously with you!

No, points bookings remain fully refundable regardless of how you pay for the taxes and fees. The expiration of your funds will apply to the taxes and fees, but not your flight. Meaning that, if you cancel, the points will always go back into your RR account, and the funds will be held under the new confirmation number, good only for use by the original passenger, usable until the earliest expiration date of any funds applied.

If the promotion was a challenge, where you were given A-List temporarily and could have maintained it by meeting certain criteria, but you did not meet that criteria, then no, you will not have A-List going forward.

All points earned from the Rapid Rewards Visa card from Chase -- base and bonus -- are Companion Pass Tier Qualifying. Points are earned when posted to your account each month, regardless of if you carry a balance. If you return/refund a purchase made with the card, those points originally earned from that refunded purchase are deducted from the next statement.

Companion pass is what it means. They're traveling with you as a Companion. Shame is on you for not reading the fine print. There's a saying, "Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse". Not taking the time to read the fine print of a fine program allowing someone YOU designate free travel, is your faux pas.

No. Unfortuantely, Southwest just recently stopped allowing any points transfers from partners (credit card, hotels, etc.) to count for Companion Pass qualification. The only points that are Companion Pass Tier Qualifying are base points from Southwest or partners (not any bonus points), plus all points earned from the Rapid Rewards Visa card from Chase. Your best bet for earning CP without travel is to get the Rapid Rewards Visa card(s) from Chase, with a sign up bonus (40,000-60,000 depending on offer).

ll you need is the confirmation number. Then, at as close to exactly 24 hours before scheduled departure, check yourself in online at Southwest.com. From there, you can print your boarding pass, or have a mobile one sent to your smartphone. Alternately, you can get one at the airport when you check any bags or from a kiosk if not.

There is no difference: 1 round rip = sum of 2 one-ways; I personally prefer buying two one-ways instead of one round trip for flexibility so that If I want to change one segment, I do not have to touch the other segment; as you may know, there is no change fees on Southwest, which makes it easy; you would still have to pay the difference if the replacement fare is higher.
