I was also wondering if travel insurance had been purchased. It is listed on their website. I always purchase travel insurance for any vacation. It is an added expense, but we have had to use it twice in the past. Once was also for a death of a family member who was not included on the vacation. Without the travel insurance I am sure we would not have received a refund.

Did you see where United airlines is now raising their baggage fees? Southwest does not charge for baggage fees and we are all happy for that. I don’t see were that many people would be upset if Southwest said “no more seat saving”. You can buy a business select seat or pay for early bird boarding for everyone. That would only make it fair to the people have paid more for their ticket to try to get a seat where they would like. My husband and I always pay for earlybird boarding for each one of us and yes I can go put her back in the plane to find two seats together. However, after paying for earlybird boarding I may not want to walk farther back because of people saving seats. As long as Southwest is not charging for baggage I think most of their flyers would appreciate people not being allowed to save seats. While I realize paying for earlybird boarding for your entire group will cost a little more you are not paying baggage fees and you are not having to pay extra for certain seats.

I know people are just hoping that you will walk by the seats they are saving and continue on back. But, maybe since I paid the extra for earlybird boarding I don’t want to continue walking down the back. My husband and I both paid for earlybird boarding and we will get an aisle seat and a middle seat together at times. Other times we will get two aisle seats across from each other. I don’t want to keep walking by people saving seats for people that did not pay for the earlybird boarding. Yes I can eventually find a seat towards the back, but I prefer to sit up closer.

Southwest has no policy on saving seats, but it is also open seating. I think you would have been within your rights to have taken the seat especially since it was in the exit row and you also paid for EB. Someone can save a seat apparently, but if someone like you comes on before the other person I don’t see why you can’t take that seat. I know that puts a lot of stress on you, but it is open seating. You need to contact Southwest directly.

I am in total agreement with your comments. Southwest needs to take a stand on the subject of seat saving before some passengers have a conflict which ends up on the evening news. My husband and I always each pay for early bird boarding. Yes, early bird boarding costs more, but is normally less than what you would pay on another airline for a specific seat or seats. After paying extra for EB I do not want to pass saved seats. Yes, we can continue moving farther back in the plane but, that is not why I paid extra.

I totally agree with you and do not feel Seats should be saved. My husband and I both purchase EB. Someone should not be allowed to save seats for passengers who have not. Yes, on another airline you would have to pay an extra fee for certain seats and to be able to sit together. That is basically the purpose of purchasing EB boarding. So, when someone tells you that you can't sit in an open seat because they are saving it SW should just refund your EB payment. Buying EB is becoming too much to pay to be told "You can't sit here" yes, it costs more for each ticket, but you would be paying a fee on other airlines to make sure all of your seats together.
