Southern California Getaways
The Inn at Laguna Beach, fly into Orange County Airport (SNA)
If a cliffside view of the ocean and a luxury hotel with shopping, great food, and art galleries is your thing, then this hotel is for you. Known for its picturesque views and high style, one of its best features is accessibility. You’ll find yourself within walking distance of restaurants, nightlife, the beach, surfing, tide pools, entertainment, and more. That means once you arrive, you can ditch the car, leave California traffic jams behind, and take your vacation at your own pace.
The Chopra Center, fly into San Diego Airport (SAN)
For those seeking true rejuvenation, this resort and spa, founded in part by Deepak Chopra himself, is the ultimate spot. It’s located just north of San Diego in Carlsbad and features a spa, mind-body medical group, a full schedule of yoga classes, and free 30-minute meditation sessions. You have the option of checking into the resort to attend a wellness program, or dropping in for a yoga class, spa session, or to take advantage of their other offerings.
The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort, fly into Burbank Airport (BUR)
Whether you’re bringing the family along, want to relax, or looking to spend some time in the great outdoors without giving up your creature comforts, The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort could be the place for you. It’s tucked away in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country and features western-themed accommodations. But don’t be fooled, in addition to horseback riding, archery, and a rodeo, you’ll find tennis courts, a golf course, a lake, cycling, and world-class dining and spa experiences. There’s truly something for everyone, making it the perfect place for a relaxing family vacation, reunions, corporate retreats, or couples getaway.
Ojai Valley Inn, fly into Los Angeles Airport (LAX)
“Accessible seclusion” is what the Ojai Valley Inn has coined its vibe. This self-contained resort is 70 miles north of Los Angeles and 12 miles from the beach. You can settle in for the long haul and utilize the golf course, the 31,000 sq/ft spa village, several pools, shopping, artist cottage and apothecary, and seven dining options. There are plenty of activities for adventurers and relaxation seekers alike. It’s no doubt one of the best vacation spots in California, as Condé Nast Traveler Magazine has consistently named it one of the “Top 100 Hotels in the World.”
Catalina Island, fly into Los Angeles Airport (LAX)
If you’ve ever wanted to spend time on a secluded island, but are afraid of being TOO secluded, then take a trip 22 miles off the southern California coast to Catalina Island. An hour-long ferry ride will get you to Avalon, the main town on the island, which is one square mile. With a limited number of cars on the island, most people cruise the streets in golf carts. There is also plenty of entertainment to be had. From the famous mini-golf course, the historic Avalon Movie Theatre, tasty restaurants, spas, and the Descanso Beach Club, which features one of the prettiest beaches in California.
Catalina Island, California
Newport Beach/Balboa Island, fly into Orange County Airport (SNA)
While others are spending time on the Santa Monica Pier, at Muscle Beach, or other famous beaches in California, you can skip the crowds for a more relaxing experience. The Newport Beach area features 13 beaches that are some of the best beaches near Los Angeles. They’re easily some of the best beaches in Southern California. They take pride in taking care of their sand and keeping things clean, which means a better experience all around on these beautiful beaches in California. Plus, if you’re looking for the warmest beach in California, this is it. The water temperatures are typically around 68-69˚ from July through mid-October.
After you’ve had your fill of the sand, you can walk along the boardwalk, or even hop on a fairy to nearby Balboa Island, where you’ll enjoy strolling the quaint streets. Don’t forget to grab a famous Balboa Ice Cream Bar before you head back to the mainland.
“Check into an ocean room view at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach. Start the day by lounging by the pool during the day and enjoy a relaxing spa treatment. For dinner, either dine in one of the posh restaurants or stay in your room and order Private Dining. When you check out of the hotel, you will feel like a million bucks... and might have spent close to that too. ” @Passenger1C Southwest Rapid Rewards Member
Newport Beach, California
Encinitas/Carlsbad/Oceanside, fly into San Diego Airport (SAN)
Tucked about half an hour north of San Diego, you’ll find a string of beach towns that are as charming as they are relaxing. Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside are all located side-by-side along the North Coast Highway 101. Each town features great shopping, amazing food, and boasts some of the best beaches near San Diego. Better yet, these top beaches in California are all easy-access and tend to be less crowded than some of their Southern California counterparts.
National Parks
If spending time in nature is what recharges your batteries, then you’ll want to check out California’s NINE National Parks. With everything from deserts to mountains and forests to islands, you’ll find something that soothes your soul.
Northern California Getaways
Bath Houses
If you’ve never been to a bathhouse before, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss. Steam rooms, salt rooms, massages, facials, yoga, and cold and hot pools all provide a relaxing environment in these northern California bathhouses. Whether you go alone, with a spouse, or with friends, you’ll leave feeling rested and rejuvenated. Some bathhouses of note are Asha Urban Baths in Sacramento, or Onsen or Pearl (for women only) in San Francisco.
Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa, fly into Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco Airport (SFO)
Don’t be fooled by the name, this hotel and spa are anything but rustic. The property itself was designed by a New York-based firm and plays off of the feeling of a nostalgic roadside hotel, but with an upscale twist. You can enjoy plenty of games like bocce ball, corn hole, and board games, jam out to live music, go on excursions to local wineries, or take classes like “Maker Mondays,” which are taught by local artisans. The on-site spa takes a fun and social twist on a traditional bathhouse, which matches the overall feel of the property—playful relaxation.
Wine Country, fly into Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco Airport (SFO)
Northern California is known for its wine country, and for good reason. This fertile part of the State boasts some of the country’s best vineyards. With experiences varying from hip tasting rooms to drives down rural country roads lined with vineyards, the hardest task is deciding which experience is right for you. California’s tourism board has outlined some of the great destinations on its website to help you narrow down your search.
“Fly into SFO, rent a car and drive to Napa. Stay in a posh cottage at one of the beautiful Napa Resorts. Experience the Wine Train and take in the sights of beautiful Napa. The next day start early, hire a car service to visit many of the local wineries for a day full of tastings. Make sure to end the night with dinner at The French Laundry. The dinner is an experience you will never forget. My wife would also add a spa treatment is a must while savoring on a glass of sparkling wine.” @Passenger1C Southwest Rapid Rewards Member
Napa Valley, California
San Francisco, fly into Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco Airport (SFO)
Visiting a big city may not sound relaxing, but if relaxing is the plan, there are many options available. Most people know to wander around Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, and the Golden Gate Bridge. But have you ever been to Golden Gate Park? This park is three miles long by half a mile wide (that’s bigger than New York’s Central Park!) and boasts a herd of buffalo, as well as flower gardens, museums, and more. You could spend days exploring and meandering here. Another relaxing adventure is to take a day trip to Sausalito. Enjoy a ferry ride to this charming town and take in the unique houseboats, shopping, and dining experiences.
National Parks
California has more National Parks than any other State. That means more opportunities for you to find one that suits your taste. Or, make a bucket list and visit them all.
What is the warmest beach in California?
In southern California, Newport Beach serves up the warmest water along the California Coast. With water temperatures hanging out consistently around 68-69˚ from July through mid-October, a surfing session or a dip in the ocean is always a good idea.
What is the prettiest beach in California?
Newport Beach and Laguna Beach California are among some of the prettiest beaches in California. Both areas take great pride in keeping their beaches groomed and ready for visitors, which means less trash and washed up plant life, fewer bugs, and more opportunities to relax and enjoy the surf, sand, and sun.
If you’re looking for a unique beach experience, you may want to travel to Glass Beach near Fort Bragg. While it’s not a traditional beach, it’s gotten its reputation as one of the best beaches in Northern California because of its uncommon ground cover. The site was once home to a trash dump, and the once discarded colorful glass bottles have now broken down and become worn and smooth from being churned by the water. The result is a colorful beach area that is fun for young and old to explore.
What are the top museums to visit in California?
If perusing paintings, pondering photographs, scrutinizing statues, or just generally absorbing the arts sounds appealing, California has plenty to offer in that department too.
No matter which relaxing destination you choose, you’re sure to leave your California vacation feeling refreshed and like a brand new you.

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is almost a tourist destination in and of itself. You may want to arrive early so you can take advantage of the aviation museum, restaurants, art exhibits, play areas, and other attractions. Or if you find yourself with a long layover to Hawaii or somewhere else, you’re guaranteed to find something to pass the time.
“First make sure that you are using the best airport for your location. I have found SFO to be great for hopping off, taking the BART downtown and visiting a walkable hotel. Beware of the topography though, it may appear to be a few blocks but some of the hills are steep enough they have cut stairs into the sidewalks - not ideal with luggage. Consider an Uber or Lyft even for gung-ho public transit buffs if you have a lot of luggage.
"One time, we took the BART downtown and then used a Zipcar to visit areas north of the city, and returning to the city without needing to pay for parking of a rental car.” @DancingDavidE, Southwest Rapid Rewards Member
Navigating Southwest’s San Francisco Airport Terminal
The terminal for Southwest Airlines at SFO is the Harvey Milk Terminal 1B. Phase 1 of the newly redesigned Terminal reopened in the summer of 2019 following a major renovation. The Terminal features new San Francisco-based restaurants, hundreds of power outlets, new artwork, lots of natural daylight, and high ceilings to diffuse noise. A new gate numbering system also debuted to make it easier to find your way through the airport.
If you find yourself traveling solo with kids, or just needing extra assistance, you may want to look into the services of Airport Butler. This concierge service can help you with baggage, lounge service, ground transportation, and more. Ultimately, it can help take a load off so you can enjoy your travel day.
Southwest Terminal at Oakland Airport Food/Restaurants
In addition to a new look, the Harvey Milk Terminal also has new restaurants. Many of the restaurants are locally based and feature cuisine that is synonymous with San Francisco. If you have extra time, you can explore the food options in the other SFO terminals, but there are plenty of food options in terminal 1:
Southwest SFO Terminal 1B Dining Options
Amy’s Drive-Thru: Sustainably focused café offering veggie, vegan, and gluten-free burgers, burritos, and pizzas. They also have a special kid's menu.

Starbird: Sandwiches, wraps, and salads with craft soda and house-made lemonades.
Retail Therapy
Forgot your phone charger? Need something to read on the plane? Have a hankering for a quick snack? The retail stores in the Harvey Milk Terminal have got you covered.

Shoeshine: Sit back and relax while an expert gives your shoes the pampering they deserve.
Family Bathrooms at the Terminal for Southwest Airlines
There is a family restroom located at the beginning of the terminal, close to the restaurants and shops. If you’d like to access a private nursing room, or “nursery” as the San Francisco Airport refers to them, there is one near Gate 43, and another one across from Gate 23. These rooms are locked and reserved for families with children. To gain access to one, you simply use a white airport courtesy phone to ask for the code.
There are also several women’s restrooms located in the terminal. One is pre-security, one is positioned by the family bathroom after security but before the gates, and the other is in the middle of the terminal. You can also find men's restrooms pre-security and past security and by the gates.
Traveling with Pets
Traveling with a pet is easy at the terminal for Southwest flights. The pet relief area is located in the Southwest San Francisco Airport Terminal 1B. This indoor area is located just before you reach all of the B Gates. It includes an area with a sink, paper towels, and bags to help your pet take care of business. Best of all, the animal relief area is accessible for the disabled.
Connectivity
The San Francisco International Airport now offers free WiFi in all of its terminals. To access the network, simply select the WiFi network #SFO FREE WIFI or #SFO FREE 5GHZ WIFI. From there, you simply launch your web browser of choice, click the button to accept the terms and conditions, and that’s it. Each session lasts four hours. If you need more time, just accept the terms and conditions again to extend by another four hours. You can do this as many times as you need to.
Wander Around
And, now for the good stuff. If you’ve got a little (or a lot of) extra time, read on for some of the best things to see and do while you wait.
If you need to freshen up, you can head to the SFO International Terminal Lounges, or take advantage of the Freshen Up rental shower facilities in that same Terminal. Freshen Up is located by boarding area G and allows travelers the opportunity to rent a shower. You can also purchase soap and shampoo if needed.
Members of the U.S. military and their families have free access to the USO airport lounge located in the Terminal 1 Mezzanine. This lounge is open 24/7 and features TV, unlimited free Internet service, books, magazines, drinks, food, overnight facilities, and a nursery.
If you have little travelers who need to burn off some energy, take them near Gate 22 in boarding area B. There you’ll find a newly created play area where kids can take some time jump, run, roll, and get the wiggles out before strapping in for a flight. This area is open 24/7, which means it’s always open, even if it is past bedtime. There are also additional play areas in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.
Kid’s Spot Play Area. Image credit: SFO Airport
Harvey Milk Terminal 1 features five new, site-specific artwork pieces, and 25 two-dimensional works. You can peruse them all, but make sure you don’t miss the SFO Museum two large-scale mosaic murals by local Bay Area artists Jason Jågel and Robert Minervini.
Aviation enthusiasts and novices alike will enjoy a trip to the free Aviation Museum and Library, located in the International Terminal. This unique exhibit features an overview of the evolution of commercial aviation through the years. The space itself is designed to mimic the SFO’s lobby from the 1930s.
If you’re pre-security in the International Terminal, be sure to see SFO Museum’s Video Arts gallery. The gallery showcases short-form documentaries, short films, narratives, and even animation. It’s a fun way to learn about some of the latest filmmakers and see their works.

If you’re flying to the San Francisco area, you may want to consider flying in or out of the Oakland International Airport (OAK). It is located just across the bay from San Francisco and offers all the benefits of a smaller airport—like easier and cheaper parking and rental cars, shorter security lines, and smaller terminals. And even though it’s not technically located in San Francisco, OAK is only a few miles further than the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as well as many of the major San Francisco destinations. Flying in or out of OAK can even offer cost savings at times, so consider that as you book your flight(s).
“OAK is great! It’s an easier gateway to Napa and Sonoma instead of flying to SFO and driving up through the city. It’s also the obvious airport for traveling to East Bay locations.” @DancingDavidE Southwest Rapid Rewards Member
Navigating the Oakland Airport Southwest Terminal
Terminal 2 is the designated Southwest Terminal at Oakland Airport. Because Southwest is the only airline operating in that terminal, you can expect shorter security wait times.

All of the dining options are located past the security checkpoint. Throughout 2019, the Southwest Terminal at OAK has been in the process of revamping its dining experience and offerings. Traveling with Pets
There’s good news if you’re travelling with a pet or an approved service animal. Not too long ago, OAK opened up a pet relief area that is past the security checkpoint. That means you don’t have to pass back and forth through security every time your pet has to go to the bathroom. The area is located in the Southwest Terminal 2 by Gate 25. It features a full sink, artificial turf, cleaning tools, and even a mini fire hydrant to make your pet feel right at home.
Connectivity
Am I the only one who can’t get a solid cell signal in airport terminals? There’s great news for people like me, and anyone who wants to work, stream shows, or just stay connected in general. You can access free Wi-Fi throughout the OAK and OAK Airport lounges thanks to OAK’s partnership with Boingo. If you just need a basic connection, you can watch a 30-second commercial and be on your way for free. If you need something a little more robust, there are options available for purchase as well.
Wander Around Here
If you’re in the airport on a Hawaii layover, or just have some extra time, you may want to wander around to see the artwork on display. Over $1.2 million was spent on the implementation of public art in the Oakland Airport Terminal 2 alone. The Oakland Museum of California oversaw the project, which includes a 160 foot glass window wall entitled “Going Away, Coming Home” by Oakland artist Hung Liu. This piece is located by Gates 26-32 in the Southwest Terminal. Other artwork can be viewed throughout the airport in both pre and post security areas. There is even a special museum exhibition in the corridor that connects Terminal 1 and 2.
If you have extra time and relaxing is more your thing, you can head to the OAK Airport Escape Lounge. The lounge is open to all for a fee. You’ll find the Escape Lounge Oakland Airport in Terminal 1. Once inside, guests can enjoy unlimited freshly prepared, chef-curated and locally sourced food, complimentary drinks and cocktails, free high-speed Wi-Fi that is only accessible to lounge guests, a business center, plenty of power outlets, and seats that are guaranteed to be more comfortable than the ones located by the Gates.
Rental Cars
Picking up or dropping off a rental car is easy, thanks to the OAK Rental Car Center. The major rental car companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, Payless, and Thrifty are all located in this facility, which is a short drive from the airport terminals. To get there, simply catch one of the free shuttle buses that operate from the passenger pick up/drop off area between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Shuttles run every ten minutes or less for most of the day, and on demand between 1:30 am and 4:30 am.
If you have booked a car from someplace other than one of the aforementioned agencies, you’ll have to transfer to an off-airport shuttle at the Rental Car Center. You’ll need to make arrangements for this by calling the rental agency from the terminal, or Rental Car Center.

If you find yourself flying into, out of, or on a layover at the San Diego Airport, I’m jealous. Any airport that greets you with palm tree-lined streets when you step outside is "A-OK" in my book. I’ve spent a few weeks every summer for the past five years working in San Diego, so I’ve navigated the San Diego Airport many times. If you’re traveling to the San Diego Airport Southwest Terminal in the near future, here are a few things you need to know about San Diego airport food, amenities, and more.
Navigating the Southwest Airlines San Diego Terminal
One of the best things about the Southwest San Diego Airport Terminal is its size. While several airlines occupy Terminal 1, the gates are grouped into small clusters with dedicated security lines for each one—this means you might need to exit and re-enter security as you make a connection, but that also translates to shorter lines and less walking (or running, if you’re late, like I often am) to get to where you’re going. The downside is that each gate area has fewer food and retail options. Not to worry though, read on to discover the simple solution that lets you enjoy the convenience of the smaller San Diego Airport Southwest Terminal, while still having access to everything the whole airport has to offer.
Terminal Food and Restaurants
Because there are a limited number of San Diego Airport restaurants by each gate, your food options may SEEM limited. The reality is the ENTIRE AIRPORT is your oyster. The last time I flew out of San Diego, a Southwest Employee gave this tip to another passenger, and it’s my duty to pass it on to you now:
If you download the app At Your Gate, you can have access to dining and retail stores throughout the airport. So if you’re craving some San Diego Terminal 2 food or retail, but you happen to be in Terminal 1, never fear. Just open the app, and they will bring whatever you need right to you at your gate. You can get everything from full meals to coffee and donuts, phone chargers, and even MAC makeup delivered right to your seat in about 20-30 minutes.
If you’d rather pick up your food in person, the most variety can be found before you pass through security. Once you’re at your gate, you’ll typically find a market with various grab-and-go snacks, a sit-down restaurant/bar option, and fast food or fast-casual options.
Terminal 1 Pre-Security Dining Options
Ciao Gourmet Market: Grab-and-go offerings that include organic, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and fair trade options
Emerald Express: A fast, casual Chinese menu that includes traditional breakfast items and some special selections for the more adventurous traveler
Jack in the Box: Fast food burgers
Pacifica Breeze Cafe: A sit down option that features gourmet, chef-crafted fare
Ryan Bros. Coffee: Open 24 hours and offers coffee, tea, frappes, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast
Starbucks: An American coffee shop staple
Terminal 1, Gates 1A, 1, and 2 Dining Options
Ciao Gourmet Market: Grab-and-go offerings that include organic, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and fair trade options
Craft Brews on 30th St: A bar and lounge with seasonal and year-round selections of local microbrews, and a fresh, all-natural, locally-sourced menu featuring wholesome and healthy cuisine
Terminal 1, Gates 3-10 Dining Options
Bankers Hill Bar & Restaurant: A sit-down restaurant where farm-to-table meets comfort food, with a full bar and extensive drink menu
Ciao Gourmet Market: Grab-and-go offerings that include organic, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and fair trade options
Einstein Bros. Bagels: A great place to grab a coffee, fresh-baked bagel, snack, or signature sandwich
The Counter Custom Built Burgers: A fast, casual restaurant with beef, natural turkey, and veggie burgers you’d swear came from an upscale restaurant
Terminal 1, Gates 11-18 Dining Options
Peet’s Coffee & Tea: It opens at 4:30 a.m., so it’s a great choice to fuel up on your drink of choice before your flight
Urban Crave: A quick casual restaurant that serves authentic street food like burgers, hand-cut fries, hot dogs, and breakfast burritos
Retail Therapy
If you’re looking to grab some souvenirs, last-minute essentials, or just do a little retail therapy, there are several places to shop around the Southwest gates in the San Diego Airport Terminal. The majority of the stores are pre-security, so if you’re looking for something in particular, you may want to get your shopping done before you head to your gate. Or, you can use the app At Your Gate and get retail purchases from either terminal delivered right to you.
Terminal 1 Pre-Security Retail Stores
Bay Books of Coronado: This compact version of the favorite Coronado bookstore features books by local and national authors, games, toys, and even LEGOS
Shades of Time: Pick out a new pair of sunglasses here to see your vacation in a whole new light
Stellar News Express: A place to grab reading material, snacks, and beverages for your trip
Tech on the Go: Headphones, cords, chargers, cases ... if you need it for your tech gear, you’ll find it here
The Beach House: Flip flops, cover-ups, beach towels, and anything else you’ll need to go straight from the tarmac to the sandy shores
Where Traveler: This beefed-up newsstand features the essentials and more, like books, magazines, snacks, Samsonite luggage, and maps and guides to help you get to know the best parts of San Diego
Terminal 1, Gates 1A, 1, and 2 Retail Stores

Hudson News: This iconic airport store carries a selection of books, magazines, snacks, beverages, and beauty, tech, and travel essentials
Terminal 1, Gates 11-18 Retail Stores
Best Buy Express: Chargers, no-contract cell phones, noise-canceling headphones, you can find all the premium gadgets you need for your trip in this convenient vending machine
KUSI News: You’ll find souvenirs, health and beauty aids, snacks, toys, beverages, and activities and this local newsstand
Family Bathrooms
No matter which gate at the Southwest Terminal San Diego you’re at, you’ll find you’re never far from a bathroom. That comes in handy when you land and you’ve been holding it for the last hour because two sleeping passengers next to you made it nearly impossible for a quick trip to the bathroom. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Nursing mothers looking for a little peace and quiet can make their way to the area by gates 3-10, or gates 11-18 to find a dedicated lactation room. This may require you to go through a security checkpoint, but again, the small gate areas mean the lines are relatively short at all times.
Traveling with Pets
If you brought a service animal or the family pet along on your trip, you can find a pet relief area past the security checkpoint by Gates 1A and 1 in the San Diego Airport Southwest Airlines Terminal. If you have more time and want to walk it out, there are additional pet areas located in Terminal 2.
Connectivity
I always have a hard time getting a strong cell signal close to airport gates. The good news is you will find complimentary Wi-Fi in the Southwest Airlines San Diego terminal. All you have to do is log in, and you get a complimentary two-hour session. If you need more time, you simply refresh your session after two hours. The Internet speed is fast enough that you can download and stream movies, or take care of any other business you might need to.
Wander Around Here
If you have a longer layover on your way to Mexico, or some other destination, you may want to leave your gate area to wander the airport a bit more. There are some spas that offer massages, mani/pedis, and other relaxation services in Terminal 2 by gates 26 and 36, as well as the Airspace Lounge where you can purchase a day pass to gain access to areas to work, relax, shower, and eat.
If you’d like to make your layover more of a cultural experience, click here to discover public art, art exhibitions, and even performing arts in the San Diego Airport Southwest Airlines Terminal and other airport terminals.
Whether you have a lot of time or are in a hurry, the area around the Southwest gates in the San Diego Airport Terminal has a lot to offer. While you get the feel and convenience of a small-town airport, you also have access to all the amenities of a large one.
Rental Cars
All rental car companies are located off-site from the San Diego Airport Terminals at the designated Consolidated Rental Car Center. In December of 2018, Southwest Airlines cut the ribbon on a brand new LAX Terminal 1. The new facility is so nice, I dare say you may want to get to your flight extra early or hang out after your flight lands just so you can shop, eat and enjoy the atmosphere. Yes, it’s that good. If you’re traveling to or from the new LAX Southwest Terminal in the near future, read on for some helpful tips and things you should know.
“Southwest gates are in Terminal 1 at LAX, which is a huge horseshoe shape. That means arriving at the airport for a Southwest departure via shuttle or car is generally pretty easy and quick since Terminal 1 is the first stop. On the flip side, when you fly into LAX and have to catch a rental car or airport shuttle, be prepared for extra stops at the rest of the terminals as you make your way around the horseshoe. It does add a few extra minutes that are worth planning for!”

That will give you more time to enjoy all of the good food and shopping the terminal has to offer. If you want to gauge your wait time, you can check the line times here. You could get your west coast burger fix by making a quick visit to the In-n-Out conveniently located just outside LAX, but only if you’ve got a nice long layover. We love our “animal style” burgers, but please don’t miss your connection because you’re knee-deep in fries.
“If you love planes and burgers, get two fixes in one spot at the Westchester In-N-Out Burger! It's located right at the corner of the airport and provides the perfect spot to get up close with the many different types of aircraft that land at LAX! They even have outdoor seating!”

The larger bank of restrooms is by Gates 13 and 14, and this area also includes family bathrooms. Nursing mothers can find a designated nursing room in LAX Terminal 1 by Gate 13.
Traveling With Pets
If you brought a pet or service animal with you on your vacation, you’ll be happy to know that every LAX Airport Terminal has a pet relief area beyond the security checkpoint. At the LAX Southwest Terminal, you’ll find this area located next to Gate 13. There is also a pre-security pet relief area located between the Southwest Airlines LAX Terminal 1 and LAX Terminal 2. The walking time from one terminal to another is approximately 3-5 minutes.
Connectivity
Running low on juice? You’ll find designated power stations by Gates 9, 12, and 13, and two by Gate 15. Plus, all LAX Airport Terminals offer free unlimited Wi-Fi in all public areas. The only catch is that you have to watch one 15-30 second advertisements every 45 minutes. You can find the free Wi-Fi under the network name _LAX Free WiFi. Connect to that network, launch your web browser, and select “Free Unlimited WiFi” to begin. A short ad will then play and you’ll be on your way. Faster Internet service is also available for a fee.
Wander Around Here
There are plenty of drinking fountains and water bottle filling stations throughout the terminal. They are all located next to the bathrooms—in the ticketing/check in area, next to baggage claim, and by Gates 9, 11A, 13, and 14.
Several terminals feature art exhibitions. The current exhibit in the LAX Terminal 1 is Florgalora by Pat Warner. It’s a tribute to California’s flowering plants. Check here for up to date information on the latest exhibits in all the terminals, including the LAX international arrivals terminal.
If you have a Hawaii layover or just some extra time before your flights, and relaxation is your thing, you can get a massage, facial, or mani/pedi at Be Relax across from Gate 11B. If you find yourself in the LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B) as you arrive from Mexico with a layover, you may want to splurge on a membership to the KAL Lounge LAX. This is a member’s only area that has showers, refreshments, alcoholic beverages, and plenty of work stations and space to relax.
