As conversion continues, our Ground Support Equipment folks are working hard to convert AirTran bag tugs over to Southwest tugs, 122 currently to be exact. Not much to that, right? Well, as we found out, this is not just about changing colors, but is an effort to save money with new systems and fuel efficient fuel injection engines. As you will see in this video, as equipment arrives from ATL, the DAL GSE “pit crew” immediately begins the conversion process. Their goal is to finish one tug per week, and as a result of their efforts, they produce a brand new tug ready to hit the Ramp.

We are very proud of the fact that fees don't fly at Southwest Airlines, and we stand alone among our competitors in the belief that airlines shouldn't nickel and dime our Customers. We don't charge a fee to check your first or second bag, we don't charge a fee for a soda or a snack onboard, we don't charge a fee to talk to one of our Agents on the phone, and we don't charge a fee to change your reservation.

It feels like an understatement to say that 2010 was an extremely busy year for the Employees of Southwest. From new city openings, new advertising campaigns, and a colorful new plane livery, 2010 was one that will definitely go down in the Southwest history books. Today, we’d like to share with our external audience a video treat that our internal audience gets the opportunity to see weekly, the WNdow Seat. The WNdow seat is a weekly news program that we began early in 2010 as a way to get industry and Company news into the hands of our Employees in a fun, multimedia way. Each week we have different Employee hosts who share news from around the Southwest system. The videos are produced by our in-house Communication and Multimedia teams and are available for Employees to view on our corporate intranet. We thought this week’s episode titled, “The WNdow Seat Top 10,” would be a fun one to share with our external friends as well. Enjoy!

I have always been fascinated by weather, especially growing up in Texas and going to college in Oklahoma...weather just tends to happen there. With all of the crazy weather sweeping across the country this time of year and causing all sorts of problems for travelers, we thought it would be a great idea to sit down and talk with Southwest's Chief Meteorologist, Rick Curtis, to get an inside look at how Southwest monitors, predicts, and then communicates the coming weather to Employees and Customers. This is Part One of this series. In Part Two, I am going to sit down with our Proactive Customer Communication group which is responsible for getting the word out to Southwest Customers about the changing details of their flights. Come on into this podcast where the weather is nice!

At Southwest Airlines, we're all about Going the Distance to keep LUV alive! That's why we are featured in the new film starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long hitting the big screen Friday. Going the Distance is a film about a long-distance couple who make their relationship work even though they are on opposite sides of the country. You may not know this but Southwest actually used our very own Employees from Long Island MacArthur and New York LaGuardia as actors in this film and if you don't recognize the ticket counter, that's because the production company built an exact replica of a Southwest counter to use as the set at a vacant space in New York's JFK Airport. The R-rated comedy premiered last week in LA and Southwest Airlines had a spot on the red carpet to capture all of the action. Check it out!
