Southwest contracts out the point sale and transfer function to a third party as a profit center. Unless you need to combine points with another person's balance, you really don't need to transfer points since points can be used to book a flight for anyone.

Call Southwest. They can split the individual passengers into their own reservations/confirmation numbers. Then you can make whatever change you need.

They aren't supposed to accept them, but many FAs don't even look at the expiration date. Just be ready to pay with credit card if your drink coupons are denied.

You'll receive the difference as travel funds, usable by the original passenger(s) only, good for one year from the date you originally bought the first flight (new flight must be completed by that date). Be aware that when you apply funds to a new reservation, that new reservation takes on the (earlier) expiration date of the funds.

If you mean travel funds from a cancelled or re-fared flight, no. Those can only be used by the original passenger. If you mean a voucher, yes. Those can be used by anyone. I'm not sure what you mean, "in your account," as Southwest doesn't offer a function to hold any funds in an account. Travel funds are held under the confirmation number of the canceled or re-fared flight, and vouchers have their own number and security code. Hope this helps!

I believe the point of the previous question is that the Southwest carrier is taller than the dimensions listed for the maximum carrier height (meaning that the Southwest carrier is not compliant with the guidelines) and that it's confusing that two very different sizes are listed. The Southwest Airlines Pet Carrier: 17” long x 10.5” high x 10” wide. An "appropriate" pet carrier: 18.5" long x 8.5" high x 13.5" inches wide. My totally non-official advice? Get a carrier that's smaller than 18.5" long x 10.5" high x 13.5" wide. 😉 Good luck.

Two things: 1) Note that, for some reason, the icon is only shown once per itinerary, not for each flight. 2) If your itinerary is only for the return flight and shows no icon, contact Southwest Customer Relations, as it may have fallen off due to the dreaded Southwest "glitch." (Although, at this late date with a flight tomorrow, there's nothing they can do except refund your EBCI fee.)

The only way to get your points back is if you can prove that you had points earning activity in the past year that never posted to your account. Otherwise, no. Despite advertising that "points don't expire," they actually can disappear. Southwest requires point earning activity once every 24 months in order to keep your account active. Once the account is inactive, all points are forfeited. 😞

Southwest is currently addressing the multitude of issues caused by the conversion to the new booking system, so I suspect this one will get bumped even further down the priority list -- if it was even on there to begin with (it's hard to believe they couldn't fix something as simple as this in the past 6 months). One hopes it's addressed soon, but one is not overly optimistic.

As long as you use the change flight function -- do not cancel and rebook -- the EarlyBird Check-In is supposed to transfer over. After you've made the change, check the flights in your account and look for the sunrise icon under "extras" to verify that EBCI is still there. Making a change but keeping the same flight will not change your boarding order position.

If you're interested in travel to Cuba, you'll probably want to make the trip as soon as possible. The current administration is considering rolling back access. Trump Considers Rolling Back Obama’s Opening With Cuba "Mr. Trump, according to people close to the discussions, is also considering tightening restrictions on Americans traveling to Cuba that were eased last year on the eve of Mr. Obama’s historic trip to Havana. The new policy allows Americans who are making educational or cultural trips to Cuba to initiate their own travel there without special permission from the United States government and without a licensed tour company. Reversing it, or intensifying enforcement to require travelers to show evidence that their trips are legal, would probably slow the recent influx of American tourism to Cuba to a trickle, leaving airlines that have started direct flights there with fewer customers to serve."

You can't -- Unfortunately, Southwest doesn't offer that function, or any way to save or store Travel Funds either. You'll need to keep track of the voucher yourself, and then apply it as a form of payment when you purchase a flight. (And keep track of any residual funds if the flight cost is less than the voucher value.)

Yes, unfortunately Southwest blocks website access to many outside the US. 😞 They say that it's an "issue they are working on," but it's been this way for well over a year now, and even the most inept IT department should be able to fix something within that timeframe. As you mentioned, you may be able to access through the app, or using a proxy server online (Google for more info). Good luck!

No problem! You already know, but I forgot to mention, the funds are now a voucher, good for use by anyone (not just the originally named passenger, like travel funds). The only negative is that vouchers are only good for airfare -- they can't be used for taxes or fees.

I'm a person who posts on this public forum, just like you. 😉 Sadly, very long hold times for Customer Relations are pretty much the norm these days. Note: The $100 fee is per confirmation number. If you have multiple funds across many confirmation numbers, you'd want to combine them all together before calling. (This may not be possible if they have different passenger names, or if already expired.) Another option for customer service is to reach out via Twitter. Good luck.

FYI: The funds aren't "your money," they stopped being your money when you gave them to Southwest in exchange for a non-refundable ticket. If you want the ability to get your money back at any time, buy a refundable fare. Southwest gives you a full year from purchase in which to complete travel on even non-refundable tickets. Then, if you're not able to do that, they'll often even extend the funds for another 6 months for a fee ($100). This is way better than every other carrier out there. I agree that there should be a way to see and track your travel funds through your Rapid Rewards account. But that's unlikely to happen. So for now, customers need to do that themselves if they want to maintain the value of their ticket purchase.

In general, if the confirmation number stayed the same (if you used the "change flight" option, not cancel and rebook) then the EarlyBird Check-In is supposed to transfer. To verify, view the flight on the Southwest website, under My Account > My Trips there should be a small "sunrise" icon.

Yes! But, don't rebook -- just use the "change flight" function and choose the same flights (but at the new lower fare). That way, you won't lose EarlyBird Check-In (if purchased) or risk losing the flight should the transaction not complete correctly.

FYI: @cynapsia wrote: Travel funds are not transferable, it has to be used by you on a flight - the flight date has to be before the expiration date, not when the flight was purchased. Good News: Instead of losing ALL your money if won't fly before the expiration date, they will let you extend the expiration but at the cost of half the travel fund. I recently did this with a travel fund, I lost money - yes but at least not all of it. For someone's comment on work vs personal, I don't think which credit card you purchased matters. If you use company's credit card vs personal. If there is a travel fund under your name/reward number, should be valid (if your company let's you ) FYI: The fee to reissue expired travel funds as a voucher is $100, which is deducted from the balance. (Not "half the travel fund.") These requests are granded on a case-by-case basis, and is subject to change at ant time. You can only make the request once the funds have expired.

@RockyMtn wrote: That ridiculous excuse, as you call it" is actually policy. Family boarding is for the kids and parents. This does not include anyone else. If she was too "fragile" for the exit row, then one of the Dads should have manned up and switched seats with her. No. Here's the official written policy, in full: Notice that it does not specify "kids and parents." It says, literally, "an adult traveling with a child." An adult. A child. This family had three adults and three children. They should not have been stopped. Unfortunately, Southwest created a bad situation, then hid behind a vague policy to defend their employee's actions. Most distressing is that they never reached out to the family after the incident -- to get their side of the story, or further explain the policy, or to just deescalate the situation. Their press release refers to "decency and respect," but none was shown to the family. They at least owed them the courtesy of being contacted. Sad.
