Okay, I know we normally don't mention fares here at Nuts About Southwest, but these fares are pretty nutty--even for Southwest Airlines.  Check it out here.

Flew Southwest flight 1398 to Fla. returned one week later on 1657. Excellent service! The guy on the flight crew on the way down was auditioning for "Last Comic Standing"- pretty sure he made the cut. I think his closing line was "Thanks for flying with us - we're alot faster than taking the bus" sung to some Broadway show tune. Did have a problem with a lost bag on return trip - had to drive from Erie to Buffalo to pick up - but got a $200 voucher for my trouble. (Also had the option to have it delivered to Erie, but took the voucher offer.) I did see other customer service issues handled very professionaly in Buffalo on return trip. Also kudos to Southwest for not charging an extra fee for curb side check in. Very cheesy for other airlines to do so - if that is what it takes for them to make ends meet - the sitiuation speaks for itself. It's nice to know a company who gives good value and service as well as knowing what to do if things go wrong and how to make them right. And the onboard entertainment ain't too bad either!

$29 ???? Brian, are you guys crazy? Or just plane nuts? Oops, that one's been used already... Just one more example of why Southwest is the industry leader in offering great fares AND great service! Now, how about extending that special pricing to a route like Dallas to London and then onto Paris? Oops, Mr. Wright's rule is still semi-in-effect, ain't it? I have always loved SW seeing that the airport is a hop, skip, and jump from my house. However the latest news from CNN does not look good for you. I'm saddened to hear that cutting corners ruled over our safety. Knowing all of this, does SW excec's family fly on the plane knowing the top can be torn off any minute? SW, please come back to the quality and CARING that you had in your history. We all want to love you, your great staff, and prices. But none of that is any good if I crash from 10,000 miles in the sky. Have you ever seen an air accident? Doesn't look like a painless way to go.

$29 to fly an unairworthy plane? what would it cost to fly one that complied with the FAA inspections? $39? How do we believe that you are doing proper maintenance now?

btw, I would have bet against Southwest cutting maintenance corners. I had always heard from inside the industry that your schedule was nearly 30% quicker than the cards required. I guess the MBA's that are running the show saw the chance to save a couple of pennies. Sad day.

MY GOODNESS!! Glad to know that "innocent until proven guilty" is still the law of the land. Even the DMN reported that SOUTHWEST found an area was lacking and corrected it, with help from Boeing, and SELF REPORTING to the FAA. How you get "cut corners" from that isn't in my version of reality.

Will check and see what the FAA requires. Once an aircraft is past the time for an inspection, it is unairworthy. It cannot fly. Mistake or not, they flew. It is not difficult to keep track of an aircrafts inspection history and the requirements. Even worse, SW continued to fly even after identifying the problem, according to the news reports. The airworthiness directives that were likely missed are ones that were issued because of incidents and casualties involving the &737. Not something that should be missed. what do you mean innocent until proven guilty. SW has already admitted they missed the inspections.

Sounds like Dsinhou is on to something! Seems SWA found a way to substitute its own version of complying with ADs or had some friendly FAA employee approve them, which of course was less expensive (the only priority at SWA now), but not in compliance with FAA's strict requirements! It was a Business decision by SWA to save costs, but maybe not one that really risked lifes? However, if they are proven to have violated the strict rule (which is law to Airlines) , and which may not allow other means of compliance then they will have to pay the fine and Mgt will have to accept responsibility! This is sad, as SWA has had such a good safety and business record in the past, noone thought that they could do anything wrong, including me! People should have known, based on its recent record of screwing up the Boarding system, adding a so-called Business Class, increases in ticket prices and the devaluing/limiting of the RR Program that something is now not right at SWA! I blame the current leadership, that needs to be changed ,as they won't take responsibility or correct the problems they have created! SWA needs help! PS: Don't blame the media, as SWA asked CNN or agreed to the CNN interview!!

To: Southwest CEO: We travel your airline regularly (round trip, three times a year) from LAX to BWI, and find the flight and the service commendable. However, we were surprised to learn last year that you no longer offer non-stop flights to and from those destinations. We have spoken with your Customer Service and Reservation personnel, as well as flight attendants all of whom tell us they do not know why those non-stop flights were cancelled. Each of these personnel have concurred that all of the non-stop flights were filled to capacity. We are now forced to fly from BWI to either Nashville, Las Vegas, or Phoenix, thus increasing our travel time. Why did this change take place? Because we fly so frequently, and require the convenience and comfort of non-stop flights, we are considering using another airline. We hope that we don't have to make that choice. We look forward to your response. Sincerely, Mr. Mark J. Markman Dr. Marsha C. Markman

Mr. and Dr. Markman--yes, Southwest discontinued BWI - LAX nonstop service (as well as a number of other "ocean-to-ocean" markets) in late 2007. Hopefully we'll be able to re-enter those markets one day. In the meantime, we have committed to having a large number of daily, onestop, no-aircraft-change flights in each direction between BWI and LAX. Yes, they take just a little longer than the nonstop did, but with our fast turns we'll have you on your way again quickly--and besides, you get an extra soft drink and bag of peanuts for the extra stop! Thanks for your comment.

UPDATE 1, 16 Mar 08! "Safety & Boarding System Problems"! Safety Issue with an AD not Performed??? Get real!, this is truely not important (a small one-time expensive issue) in the large sceme of things with flying and SWA, when compared with the problems with the SWA Boarding System! I hope you read on and post some of your experiences with the SWA Boarding System (Not based on so-called Tradition or Nostalgia with the Cattle Call Boarding System!)! Although Important because aircraft safety is involved (one-instance), the real safety issue with SWA is not the one being talked about endlessly! Its the crazy/weird SWA Boarding system that could get you in a fight or ran over by other Passengers trying to be first in line or get in their correct SWA assigned row position! SWA Passengers need to write and lobby SWA Mgt to make some logical changes ( a real break from no reserved seating) to its non-functional Boarding System and its new rule to Board Women, Children, and handicapped Passengers between BC (Business Class) and Row B Passengers! This is a disservice to all Passengers in that such needy Passengers are more inconvienced and B row Passengers have no chance of getting decent seats! Former A row Passengers are now relegated to 2nd Class Passengers and get what seats that may be left after high paying BC Passengers board First (if they are on-time) to get a preferred seat! Just try getting a low A row number now on full flights 24 Hours in advance, when BC can get theirs 36 Hours in advance! This completes the update One! ------------------------------ New Boarding Process-After the Holidays (Title from Archived Blog ending Feb 08) This Blog space is too small (I think) to list all my negative comments about the new boarding system (even much worst then the hated old one), so I plan to follow-up with a formal USPS letter (SWA still does not accept email letters, due to bone-headed tradition and plain poor and slow Customer Service feedback options!!) to the SWAÃ
