My parents got me $400 worth of Southwest gift cards for Christmas. I want to take advantage of the sale Southwest is having on points. Can I use the gift cards to purchase points? I don’t see gift cards as an option for payment but I don’t see that purchasing points is excluded with gift cards.

Nope. Gift cards are only good for tickets.
Besides, buying points is a famously BAD idea. Why?
1 They cost more than they are worth in buying tickets -- EVEN with the sale. So you might pay say 2 cents to buy points, but when you spend those on points on tickets they are only worth say 1.8 cents. The numbers are fictitious and only used to illustrate a point.
2 Points flights don't earn points when you fly. Paid flights do
They best way to gt the most value from your gift cars is when you buy tickets.

Agreeing that buying points with a gift card would be an incredibly poor choice. That's one way to throw away your money.
DON'T BUY POINTS!!
