Something needs to be done. I was four hours late to work on Monday because of staffing issues. All of this is unstainable. I'm just glad SWA isn't Spirit.

There is a choice. If you don't want to wear a mask, you can simply choose not to fly. Flying without a mask makes you a threat to everyone else. Not being vaccinated makes you a threat. It shouldn't be an allowable choice to endanger the lives of others.

Available ICU beds is an important metric since it is killing people. It isn't my job to decide the threshold. I believe that vaccines should be mandatory to fly or pretty much do anything. I'm going to Saudi Arabia in October. First time since 2019 because of obvious reasons. Right now in KSA, you need to show a vaccine card to do pretty much anything. Go into a store? Show proof of vaccination. Go into a restaurant? Show proof of vaccination? The mall? Ditto...etc. I'll feel a lot safer there than I do in the US. I'll know that if I hit by a car, there will be available medical treatment.

Children needing ICU beds were being flown from Dallas to OKC. We are out now, and adults and children in OKC are needing to be flown to Denver. It isn't just the risk of COVID anymore. Now, you have to worry that if you get sick or injured, you might die from a lack of medical facilities with space to treat you.

Hyatt is buying Apple Leisure Group. As a Hyatt Globalist, I can tell you that Hyatt is top notch in how it treats customers. Totally awesome. Assuming that Apple Leisure Group keeps doing business as Southwest Vacations, what does this mean? Do we expect Southwest Vacations to go from being a nightmare to something better than a scam?

If she can't fly with a mask on, Southwest is probably not the best choice for you. I believe some of the other airlines have more accommodating policies. Different airlines are appropriate for different people with different needs. As someone who needs to fly pretty much every week to feed my family, Southwest's policy is right for me. I can tell you that if you do plan to fly Southwest, and you are asked if she can/will wear a mask the entire time, you should answer with an emphatic 'yes'. Any hedging or lack of sureness in your answer will likely lead to you being denied boarding.

I just called Southwest, and 45 seconds after the call initiated, I was speaking with someone. It would have been faster if I hadn't been so slow in pressing '2'. The wait time was ridiculously short. Oh, and the agent was amazing. If I could give a "kick tail" thingy over the phone, I would have. People always seem to post negative things so I wanted to share my positive experience. Way to kick tail!

I fly Southwest because, for the most part, everyone is happy. Employees, passengers, people are generally happy. United and American? Everyone appears to be miserable whenever I fly them.

@coleyreese I book all of my flights with a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. It has very, very good trip delay insurance. I know that other cards do as well. A generic Discover card doesn't, I'm pretty sure.

@Wam They were on a private jet (so much for greenhouse gases). As is usual, rules are not for our leaders. They are just for the rest of us. With that said, wear a mask. Get vaccinated. My nine year old daughter can't get vaccinated yet. Please don't kill her because you don't want to be bothered.

@Mfcronan Because the weather is an act of G-d. Airlines do not and never have provided hotels in the event of a weather related delay or cancellation. No airline in the US does. I buy my tickets with a credit card that provides insurance for such situations. If my flight is delayed or cancelled, and I need to stay overnight, I pay for a room, and Chase reimburses me.

Ask for a drink then ask for the can. They will ask if you want ice. Say no, but that you would like a cup. You will get a clean, empty cup. No need to wash it, and you will end up with a whole can of your preferred beverage as well. However, the cups are generic with no Southwest markings. You could no doubt buy a stack of them for a buck or two at Walmart. However, who am I to judge? I kept a pack of Southwest peanuts.

We were offered coffee on my flight this morning. Instead of four choices (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and water), we were told we had five choices with the fifth being coffee. Another step towards normalcy. I hope that soon we will be offered Diet Dr. Pepper.

The wording of the Southwest policy is not 'act of G-d', it is beyond their control. I'm guessing that they would say that a problem with a vendor is beyond their control. I don't agree, mind you, but I'm not making the decisions.

And, it gets worse. If you buy a ticket with cash, you earn more points and you get credit towards status. If you buy with points, you earn nothing and you get nothing other than your flight. Historically, I've only been interested in using miles for international business class tickets. In three years of flying Southwest, I've never used points. I need to burn some at some point before they get devalued even more.

Not that my opinion matters, but canceling a flight because of a canceled flight many hours before out of a completely different city should not be counted as weather related. This is an operational decision, and it is within the control of the airline. Airlines write the contract with no room for negotiation, and I feel that there lacks balance in them. But, my opinion counts for nothing. I once had Continental cancel my flight from Houston to Heathrow due to a volcano in Iceland. The flight could have gone. Heathrow was open, and it never closed on that day. However, they canceled just in case. The next day, Continental offered to sell me a full fare business class ticket or to fly me three days later. Those were my choices. I flew home instead and asked for a refund. They charged me for the flight to Houston with no advanced purchase on the return and no Saturday night stay. I got pennies back.

I always think it unfair when it is a knock on effect. I had American once cancel a 10pm flight out of DFW because a flight at 6am out of DCA was cancelled due to weather. They said it was weather related. No. Weather 16 hours earlier halfway across the country does not make my flight cancelled due to weather. Now, I buy all of my personal tickets with a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. Airline cancels my flight and claims weather? Chase pays for a hotel. However, since switching to Southwest three years ago, I haven't had a single flight cancellation in over 200 flights. American? Ha!

I get Southwest. The two airlines that I frequently fly are Southwest and Emirates (international business class only), and there couldn't be two more different experiences. I like that Southwest is fun. However, somethings just cross a line, and I think that this is one of them. Be fun, joke, be lighthearted, but wearing something that says in some form or another, "I don't care", well, that isn't Southwest. Shouldn't the goal of Southwest to project "I do care"? I wouldn't get bent out of shape about it, but I have to admit that if I saw this, I would roll my eyes and think it wasn't appropriate. After that? I'd shrug my shoulders and move on with life.
