Though against the rules, I can see why people might want to have their own seat belt extender. It is inconvenient to have to ask for one, and some people might find it embarrassing. I used to need one, and I don't anymore. It was a small but nice improvement in my life when I didn't have to worry about asking for one every time I boarded a plane.

Every day, and not a winner once. That's life. But, I didn't need the message saying that I could still be a winner by flying on Southwest. I'm a big boy---I don't need an asinine message to make me feel better.

@david0 Yeah. That would piss me off. If they aren't able to operate flights, and the gates are all full, you push back a plane and park it to let passengers get off. Did they deliver your bags to you, or did you have to go back to the airport?

@RyanT Prices as I have seen them are still significantly below where they were two years ago. Every flight that I've been on recently has been either full or mostly full. Matching the price to the market is not gouging. Besides, Southwest is working to return to profitability after losing a LOT of money recently.

To be fair, in April, Southwest did devalue Rapid Rewards Points 😡 without any advanced notice 😡😡. However, the devaluation was only 6%, not 75%.

I'm not sure who is responsible. When the suitcase hits the conveyor belt, Southwest has successfully delivered your bag. The airport, not the airline, manages that area. I'm pretty sure that if someone steals your bag at that point, Southwest could claim that they are not responsible. In many southern countries (my wife who is a professor and international human rights researcher says that that is the proper way to refer to "developing countries"), they actually check when you leave the baggage area to see if the bag you have is actually yours. You show them you baggage claim, and they compare it to the tag on the bag. I've multiple stories about people who steal bags from the carousels at airports.

I like flying Southwest because it is fun and people are happy. However, I do a agree that a flight attendant tapping someone on the head to get their attention probably crossed a line of acceptability. Yes, it was harmless, and I'm sure that she meant no bad, but it is likely to upset some people (reasonably). It isn't exactly a Federal case, but it is poor judgment. I was going to say that a FA touching a passenger (or vice versa) to get attention is wrong, but I've had a FA tap me on the arm before to wake me up to give me a drink I had requested. Clearly, sometimes, there is a need for physical contact. But, honestly, you don't touch someone you don't know anywhere from the neck up or the waist down or I guess pretty much anywhere except the arms or shoulders.

Actually, I think the fact that the flight was delayed 14 times is a good thing. That indicates that a) Southwest was trying to find a narrow window in a situation with weather issues to get out, and b) they were keeping passengers constantly advised of changes. Airlines can't help the weather, but they can help how they handle it. This sounds like a case were Southwest was working hard to do the right.

@49erhuny Southwest Airlines should do the right thing and honor the contract. If you bought Anytime or Business Select fares, they should refund your money. If you bought Wanna Get Away, the fund should expire in June 2021. You should honor the contract. You bought the tickets in June of 2020. You very clearly knew the situation. Even I didn't fly in June (I started again in July). As you said, "we don't feel comfortable flying". That's not very compelling. You chose to buy the tickets according to a contract with well publicized terms, and you choose not to fly even though their is no reason not to fly. That's your choice.

@SGS1965 That should still be okay enough to not be in a middle seat though you won't be at the front of the plane. If you do happen to find nothing but middle seats, look for people who are a couple. They will probably offer to switch. Just make sure that also look like they like each other. My wife and I would let you have the middle.

I honestly can't tell the difference with a Max. There is a big difference in comfort between the -700 and the -800. Now, if my Boeing and Southwest stock would start reflecting all this good news, I'd be much happier.

Delta hold times are topping 8 hours now. I just read an article about that. Perhaps the better question is "Why do all airlines suck?" If you start reading hotel discussion groups, airline won't sound so bad. At least airlines aren't franchised.

65% of fares are not WGA? That seems high, especially lately with the passengers being much more leisure heavy.

@John1158 I see people get up and walk off the plane, but they usually get in a wheelchair once they are through the cabin door. They also walk onto the plane. Most people in wheelchairs at the airport can walk, but they can't walk long distances. I suspect that they are gone by the time you get off the plane, and you assume that they walked up the jet bridge.

The TSA agent might ask him his name to compare it to the ticket. My daughter's name is Philippa, but it gets cut off at Philip on tickets. It has worried me in the past that the TSA agent might ask why my daughter isn't a boy, but it has never been a problem.

I once saved two seats for my wife and then 6 year old daughter. Honestly, once or twice, I've seen some egregious saving, but I really don't see that this is really that big of a deal. Citing a case where someone saved a seat at the front and you had to go way back doesn't mean you lost that seat...presumably, if someone hadn't saved that seat, someone else would have taken it well before you boarded. The issue with "any available seat" is that "available" isn't defined. They don't say any seat without someone sitting in it. If I'm saving a seat, then I simply tell you that it isn't available. You are just going to sit there anyway? If I'm saving a seat, I'll be sitting in the aisle seat. Are you going to commit assault to get to that seat? If so, I'm pressing charges. I have only flown domestically with someone else once in the past 3.5 years so this doesn't really apply to me. But, as I said, this is doesn't seem to be the major problem some want to make it out to be.

I will state what I said before, but I will be very explicit for those with limited language ability: I do not hate gay people. I shared my story on Flyertalk in a relevant discussion. Even though I do not hate gay people, people acusedyme of being like someone who hates gay people. This is despite the fact that I do not. They said that I was like someone who wouldn’t be near a gay person 20 years ago because I thought they all had AIDS. But, none of that is true. Ironically enough, 20 years ago, I was in San Francisco, playing on a gay rugby team, and living in a house with a number of my teammates.

Recently, during boarding, I had someone who was wearing a mask around his chin look like they were considering siting next to me. If they had tried to do so, I would have told the no. I don't want to deal with this.
I don't get this. Get a vaccine. Wear a mask. Saying that doesn't make me a hateful person.

2002, I was flying Northwest back to SFO from Capetown. My hard sided Samsonite bag came out flat as a pancake with duck tape around it. People were laughing as it came around the belt. A week later, an identical new bag was delivered to my door. Accidents happen. As long as the airline takes responsibility, well, that's life. The problem is when the airline says that the purpose of the bag is to protect the contents, and that they aren't responsible for damage to the bag itself.

@TheMiddleSeat I'm planning on buying a $600 bag from Briggs & Riley soon. Lifetime, no questions asked warranty. The airline can flatten it with a steamroller, and it is covered. I bought a carry-on from them a couple of months ago. It is top quality. I got tired of replacing a $100 bag every year. Sometimes, buying cheap is buying expensive.

@fredpamm Sorry, but you were able to use the credit, but you chose not to do so. The planes were flying, and many of us were flying on them. You entered into a contract with Southwest that included terms of what happens if you chose to cancel. There were options that made the fares fully refundable, but you decided to buy nonrefundable tickets because they were cheaper. The refund-ability is what you get for the higher cost. Despite the terms of the contract, Southwest extended the usable period of your credit as a sign of good faith given the unusual nature of last year. You really don't have cause for grievance if these generous steps on their part isn't enough. Sorry. You still have 2.5 months left. As @jksobonya said, take a trip. Go to Hawaii or Seattle or Florida or Mexico. Enjoy the money that you've already spent.
