I am starting to feel luckier and luckier that I didn't have any problems on my Vegas trip from 7/7 - 7/10. It sounds like people who flew on 7/9 had to deal with a lot of cancellations. You can't blame Southwest - Las Vegas literally broke a heat wave record that weekend because it was so hot. It sounds like you contacted everyone you were supposed to and you even got a voucher - technically since Southwest cancelled your connecting flight (and you did not) you are entitled to a refund, although I'm not sure how that works when only the connection is cancelled and you flew half way to your destination. Are you entitled to a full or partial refund of that flight segment? Unsure. Also not sure how the return flight was not cancelled by Southwest since you did not make the connecting flight or arrive to your final destination. --Jessica

Your travel fund expiration is based on when you booked your flight, not when you travel. It sounds like you booked in October 2020, so it would expire in October 2021. You still have plenty of time to use it. I have 3 more trips planned by October, my next one in a few weeks. --Jessica

You could have. I flew in August, October, and December 2020. No issues. Flights were not even close to full. I felt very safe, and I never contracted COVID, either. But as others have said, you cancelled your flight too early; had you cancelled between March-Sept 7, 2020, your resulting travel funds would have had an expiration date of September 7, 2022. You could have taken your January travel funds, booked a flight anywhere in March/April/etc. of 2020, cancelled it, and your funds would have had a new expiration of 2022. --Jessica

Yep, saving seats is a thing. That's what happens when you don't have assigned seating on an airplane. There are family members or couples who want to sit together but are in different boarding groups. IMO, it's not a big deal for me as a solo traveler. I always find a seat on the plane to my liking. --Jessica

You're not vaccinated? You are carrying a weapon and they restrict that too. Just get vaccinated. "You are carrying a weapon"? No, you are not. Who thinks like this? Did you think like this in 2014 when you had a bad cold and still went to work? That's just as much of a "weapon" - you could have made someone seriously ill !! !! !! Total lunacy. I am honestly surprised some people leave their houses anymore. Too many risks! Might as well stay home where it's "safe". The brainwashing has really been effective on some people. And actually, the virus has "killed" over 4 million worldwide to date. But like I've said, I don't trust these numbers one iota. When someone dies in a car crash and they're being marked as a "COVID death" or if you test "positive" within "X" days prior to your death it is also considered a "COVID death" (as much as 30-45 days out in some cases) something is very, very wrong. And yes, these things have happened. Plus ... you can still get COVID even after being fully vaccinated, and still spread it to others. A lot of reports going on about this right now. I'm not sure why people thought if they were vaccinated they were miraculously immune to COVID, but this isn't true and it has never been true. Your symptoms will be "less severe" though (and that's saying something for a virus that is mild to begin with). I read a quote the other day about how COVID has always been treated by the press as a "severe illness" (particularly with all the fear-based articles about "long haul" COVID) and now that a vaccine is here *now* they are saying your symptoms will be "mild" if you get COVID if you are vaccinated. But most people have always had mild symptoms - or none at all - since this entire thing started. The press does a great job of telling you what to believe, regardless of it's true or not. --Jessica

That was Nov and I had the antibodies. Gave again in Jan and had antibodies. Gave again in June and have antibodies still. I was not ill during that entire time. If it's that contagious a large majority of Americans probably have the antibodies unless they've been bunkered up alone practicing sterile technique. It's fairly easy to check for antibodies and helps others in need so why aren't they pushing for that? Agree. I gave blood in December 2020 but tested negative for antibodies. I flew in March, August, October, and early December. Never got COVID. Still to this day never got COVID. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. @coleyreese wrote: Hi Jessica, it doesn't matter if I spent $400 on a hotel or $40. It wasn't in the budget. I am certainly not staying at a roach motel and bringing bed bugs home. Second, it is Southwest's fault because they literally cancelled our flight in the taxi on the way to the airport. Believe me, Resorts World certainly wasn't my first choice of hotels. With it being a weekend with all sorts of events going on, LV was hopping to say the least. I called my original hotel + several others. Even your Luxor was quoting upwards of $400 for the night. To inconvenience a customer like that and not even offer a MEAL is absolutely unacceptable. I can certainly understand if it was a blizzard and everybody was stuck, but flights were leaving all day long. They certainly can't blame the heat because it only gets hotter in the afternoon. Thank you for your two cents, though. Heat can be a problem in Las Vegas, LA, other cities out west when it comes to flights. If I remember correctly, I think Vegas actually broke a heat record that week because it was so hot. I'm sorry you paid so much out of pocket for another night, Fridays are generally more expensive, but all I'm saying is Resorts World would have been one of my absolute last choices on a busy Friday night. There had to have been cheaper options than that, even on a Friday and even with events going on and as busy as it was. I'm Gold w/MLife and Platinum w/Caesars, so I get discounted rates on hotels even when booking last minute. I had Wed-Thurs free and paid $60 for Friday at Park MGM (highly recommend, btw) - but I had booked my trip months ago. I'm sure it would have been more had I booked that very day - but not $400+ more. At least you weren't stranded at the airport and you could go back to the Strip and get a room. --Jessica

Out of all the hotels you could have stayed at in Las Vegas, you chose **Resorts World** which literally just opened and is one of the most expensive hotels on the entire strip?! I think Bellagio would have been cheaper. Heck, Circus Circus was right next door to RW and would have been a fraction of that cost. I'm positive they had rooms. So would the Strat. So would Excalibur and Luxor on the other end of the Strip. Heck, so would the Motel 6 that's on the Strip. You made a poor hotel decision. That's not Southwest's fault. I was in Vegas July 7-10. Thankfully no problems with my flights but I heard that there were many cancellations due to the weather/heat. There was one time in Vegas years ago where this happened to me. My flight was cancelled at the airport due to weather (literal blizzard back home) and I had to stay in Vegas an extra day. Bleary-eyed, I turned right around and went back to Luxor where I just checked out and booked a room for another night. --Jessica

In 2020 we had flights from Sacramento to Hawaii for our family of 5. Due to COVID the trip was postponed until July 2021. I received an email that our once direct flights from OGG to Sacramento had been changed by Southwest and now we would have a 8 hour flight home with a stopover in LAX. I checked online and was able to change the tickets back, but it cost $235 more PER ticket to make the change. Since it was 11pm at night and I just needed to make sure we could get on the direct flight home I paid more and made the change. A couple of days later, on July 7th, I spoke with a Southwest agent (to follow up on the costs) and was told that had I made that change over the phone that we would NOT have incurred the difference in the price. Is this company policy? We had the tickets we wanted, Southwest rebooked us on a flight with a layover, and in order to return back to the direct flight it would cost $1,000 online but $0 if I called an agent? I was told that there was no way to recoup the money. If you could kindly explain why our flight was changed and 11 other members of the same flights (our extended family) were not and why we charged but others in the same boat (according to the Southwest discussion forum) were not. I want to respond to the red highlighted text I made above. When Southwest changes your flight, they send you an e-mail about the change (which you received) and if you are unhappy with the change you are able to rebook your flight to a new flight free of charge ***but*** you have to make the change within 72 hours of e-mail receipt. Did you make the change within 72 hours? If you waited longer than 72 hours, you would have had to pay the difference in fare. --Jessica

DOB is a required field when booking a flight, but if you are a Southwest Rapid Rewards member, your DOB is a part of your account details and is already filled in when you make your reservation. If your birthdate was entered incorrectly, check and see if you can edit your birthdate on your Rapid Rewards account by logging into Southwest.com and making the change under My Account > Profile > Personal. When I looked at my details, DOB isn't actually able to be changed and I see this message: "To change this information, please call us at 1-800-435-9792." The person sitting next to you might have hepatitis or TB too. Yep, I am just waiting for the official stats to come out, but I doubt they ever will ... I don't believe any of the reported "COVID death" numbers. Never have. I read an article fairly recently that one county -- just one county in one state -- overcounted their COVID death numbers by 25% when they went back and actually reviewed their own records. Personally, I would apply that 25% at the national level - and maybe even more. Add in the fact that the average age of death is over 80 ... As I've said from the start, we majorly, majorly overreacted to this, and the fear of catching what is proving to be a mild virus for the vast majority after all (1 in 5 have no symptoms at all, let's remember) has totally taken over people's brains. The reality is that the virus is simply not the killer that the media has portrayed it to be. So many *other* things are contributing to many more deaths because of our reaction to the virus than the virus itself. --Jessica

Your crucial mistake here was assuming that your connecting flight was still available to you even though your initial flight was cancelled. That is not how it works. If your first flight is cancelled (or you miss it for whatever reason), any connections you had are cancelled too. You can’t make the second flight if you aren’t on the first, it’s a perfectly logical assumption to make. The airline is not going to be like, “Oh let’s keep their remaining reservation in tact in case they are going to drive to the connecting airport to catch their second flight” ?!? —Jessica
