You may receive an email with information about re-booking or taking a refund. If you go to Southwest.com and your cancellation is related to a major storm, there will also be a link there that allows rebooking from available flights without paying extra or refunding the fare. https://www.southwest.com/html/advisories/swa_travel_advisory_2018171518052449128.html You can only make the change one time though. If you opt for another airline, I'd book that first before canceling Southwest. Southwest won't pay for another airline due to weather related cancellation, but you can take a refund or at least a credit to future flights (expires one year from original purchase) if you decide to fly another airline.

The companion pass does make it trickier - if you are a twitter user you can try @SouthwestAir - don't send the confirmation number or names until they ask for it by direct message. Don't cancel your flight for sure, you'll need to use the rescheduling link or talk to someone at Southwest in order to make an even money exchange. I would be careful about canceling the companion ticket, during regular operations this will allow you to self-service online and then re-add the companion, but if the flights are all booked up that would be very risky to cancel the companion since you won't be able to add it back without availability. Southwest can make an even money exchange as long as you keep the companion ticket, but you have to talk to someone by phone or in person to do that.

You can send them a twitter @SouthwestAir if you use that particular platform. Don't send a confirmation number or your name over twitter - wait for Southwest's account to request a direct message from you before sending that sensitive info. If your cancellation is part of a large storm, there will be a link on Southwest.com to help you self-service the re-booking. Right now there is winter storm Mateo: https://www.southwest.com/html/advisories/swa_travel_advisory_2018171518052449128.html

I'll add on that you should be fine as long as you aren't looking for a specific seat. If it is getting difficult, ask a flight attendant for assistance and they can help ask if anyone will move.

The only way to get full value would be if the boyfriend gave you the money and kept the credit for use on another flight of his own. (Or some mutually agreed amount that comes out ahead of re-issuing for the fee.) Technically the credit is in his name and he could use it anytime in the interim if he has the confirmation number according to Southwest's rules. Maybe you could call and see if there is an option available to you that isn't detailed on the website.

I wanted to know if I fly with my companion, will this count as 2 one-way flights, each way? Or does it just count for one? A-list qualifying is per individual, whether the companion flies with you doesn't affect your own qulification. A-list qualifying will be based on your own flights and/or point accumulation so in your case one round trip flight will be two one-way flights, whether the companion is with you or not. Companions don't earn tier qualifying points or flights when they fly as companions, and they also don't assume the status of the companion pass holder which is a common misconception.

Just to clarify on the little guys, TSA will let them through but Southwest doesn't allow these to be consumed on a flight. For regular-sized bottles, although we've clarified in prior threads that the hold is both pressurized and conditioned there could still be some movement of a cork closure so I'd wrap any bottles in checked luggage inside of a plastic bag just in case, espcially if they weren't screw top or didn't have plastic over the cork to secure it. There is a professionally made bubble wrap that seals around wine bottles, you may want to secure your other alcohol bottles similarly depending on the risk/cost of your other items and ability to re-purchase the bottle at your destination.

The low-fare calendar would help if there were days when there was a direct flight compared to days there wasn't a direct flight, it could be inferred by days that have lower prices for the direct route. I don't think that would work if there is currently a direct flight and you are looking for a different direct flight. It would probably be best to call and ask, which may or may not be faster than searching through week by week. Edit: I had another thought - maybe there is a listing on Buffalo's airport website? That airport is probably too large to get into that level of detail, but some of the smaller airports list seasonal changes to direct destinations.

It's none of our business, we're just saying it would have been easier to have some activity on your account prior to the expiration which includes other ways to earn points than only by flying, as opposed to asking for re-instatement. Anyway - this forum is user to user, so no one here can reinstate your points. Your best bet will be to call customer service or reach out via twitter and they'll ask you to DM some details. It's not their business why you haven't flown either, but if it is something you want to share with them maybe it will help justify a special exception.

The real ID is mainly affected by your home state - i.e. whether your driver's license is compliant, it's not affected by the states that you are traveling to and from. As far as I know right now each state is currently either complying with the program or has been granted an extension through the fall. A few states got their extensions relatively recently so you'll see 2017 articles that list some non-compliant states. https://www.dhs.gov/real-id and American Samoa is on the non-compliant list. One thing I'm not sure of - the articles all mention compliance by the state, but not that an individual has to get the new ID immediately when it is available. The state's compliance status assumes an implementation period. From https://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs - it doesn't actually say that a passenger must have REAL ID, only that your ID must be issued by a compliant state... Starting January 22, 2018, passengers who have driver's licenses issued by a state that is not yet compliant with REAL ID and that has not received an extension will need to show an alternative form of acceptable identification for domestic air travel. Please see TSA's website for a list of acceptable forms of identification. Passengers who have licenses issued by a state that is compliant or that has an extension to become compliant with REAL ID requirements may continue to use their licenses as usual. For a list of states already in compliance or with an extension visit DHS's REAL ID webpage. DHS continually updates this list as more states come into compliance or obtain extensions.

For multiple funds that have separate confirmation numbers of different ages, they will expire individually. I guess I don't know about the case where you add cash to funds wtih an already aged confirmation number. Maybe you can call and get that reinstated for its own 365 day expiration.

Southwest doesn't care so much as TSA will want things to be consistent among the boarding pass, ID, passport, etc. Unless you had a reason not to put it on there, I'd say put it on there to match ID. Certainly if your companion ever signs up for PreCheck, you'll want to get all of these synchronized.

Drop them into a golf bag and you are set! I saw something about prohibiting cardboard boxes as checked bags on these forums, but that may have been specific to international travel. As long as the item is within the size and weight parameters, and the baggage handlers will have a way to pick it up, and it is sturdy/secure for your items not to be damaged, I think this would work but hopefully you can get some additional replies. These are for cars right? Maybe you can browse some car forums and see if someone there had the same issue bringing some headers as a checked luggage.

@wc-itover wrote: Well I actually had a flight attendant named Barbara on flight #3902 confirm to the entire plane that southwest has an official seating saving policy. She declared that passengers can save seats. I'm sure she's wrong but it's employees like her that's making the problem even worst by providing misinformation. Now everyone aboard this flight will go save tons of seats the next time they fly. You also have to obey FA instructions, so that will be the rule on her flights apparently! But you won't hear that same policy for (m)any other flights.

Can you pack the item inside of a cooler (without any freezer bags or anything, or actually some freezer bags at room temperature to add some thermal mass) - even if the cargo hold is filled with cold air this would provide a level of resistance where you may be okay for a flight. That would help for being outside if it was cold as well. There is capability to heat the cargo hold, or at least to maintain a minimum temperature but I don't konw if this varies, or if it is always used depending on what cargo is loaded, is it reliable, etc.

It will put some stress onto yourself, but you can also look at booking separate trips if you can get to a different airport from Punta Cana - the choices on the current route map are MDW, ATL, FLL, and BWI...when I click the map for non-stops to OMA I only see MDW there out of these choices. So - all of these are potentially not the best to get back to Omaha...it seems like MDW would have been the best choice for Punta Cana. There are some select service hotels with shuttle service around MDW although I've never tried these since I live here....HGI, Hamptonn, some independent operators...depending what you'll pay for luggage it might be close.

Also try buying one, two, and three tickets at a time insted of all four as the logic apparently charges the price for the last ticket to the whole group instead of pro-rating the remaining lower fare tickets with the next higher block.

There should be a child involved to have it count as an additional free bag. If it is one of your regular two checked items then there wouldn't be any restriction on what's actually in there, other than the checked luggage weight and size limits. https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/baggage/checked-bags-pol.html There might be leeway on the dimensions for a child's items where the stroller or car seat is allowed as an item rather than a dimensioned and weighed piece of luggage. EDIT: re-reading this one, it would be clearer if I said "you should be fine, but be careful if the bag is big enough that your chairs may be too heavy"

I think he's confused by the wording of the disclaimer that comes up regardless of points or cash booking, he has a WGA fare now. Even though the disclaimer says it will become non-refundable, he's actualy already non-refundable but because he used points, they would be returned to his account whether he changes the flight or not in the event of a cancelation.

Is there any change to policy for bookings from points in terms of refundability for international flights compared to domestic flights? One of my coworkers is heading to Punta Cana and the fare is lower now than it was previously. He was worried about changing the flight which makes it non-refundable, but he has Early Bird so he doesn't want to cancel and re-book. I believe for points that it would be equally refundable for domestic or international, whether it was changed or not but wanted to see if anyone had different experience. Thanks!

I know that you may consider it to be a "pain" literally - but you are entitled to ask the person to get up if you are in the middle, do what you have to do. Obviously try to obey the seat belt sign. I don't think an aisle seat will be too difficult, especially if it doesn't matter front or back. Do you best to check in right at 24-hours, consider early bird if the peace of mind is worth it, and then head to the back of the plane where there won't be a lot of competition for aisle seats. My experience is that people in the front want the aisle to get out quickly, get up and use the bins, etc. People going to the back want the windows first and aisles second. @TheMiddleSeat usually is available until the very end at the rear of the plane...

You can send a message to @SouthwestAir - don't include your name or confirmation number, they will ask you for a direct message where you can include that information. The time I did this was Denver to MDW, although I believe they got the wheelchair at the ticket counter and not curbside so I'm not 100% sure how that would work, but it should be possible.

MKE is a much smaller airport than Boston or Orlando, so you'll have that in your favor as you try to get from gate to gate, the time to taxi to the gate should be relatively short as well, maybe they will arrive a few minutes early which would help. Are any of your kids six years old or younger? If yes, then you may board at family boarding in the "A61" position if you are there in time for that. Otherwise if you get to the gate and boarding is already commenced, you'll have to let the flight attendants know when you board and they can help try to get one or more volunteers to reseat if needed. Not everyone will be willing, but you should be able to find a couple of people after explaining the tight connection. The FA may bribe them with a beverage. Assuming that is 8:50 p.m. maybe it will be late enough that the Orlando leg won't be completely packed, but Orlando is very busy these days so it is difficult to say.
