Such ARROGANCE on the part of the CHGOFLYER post..." mean, really... it was not that hard to read the information Southwest emailed & posted, and realize that you could just use your funds for a flight and then cancel it, which extended your funds good through September 7, 2022l". Why would any honest and ethical person have booked a FAKE flight? Original rules on SW are that if you rebook a cancelled flight and then cancel that NEW flight the expiration dates stayed the SAME as the original expiration. They did not explain that this started a NEW expiration period. And I didn't book a FAKE flight just to game the system. People were dealing with this situation ethically and honestly and were screwed by SW who seems to only reward the sneaky people who gamed the system and found a trick. Good for you poster that you are a devious person who benefitted. But there are others who acted honestly and ethically and didn't game the system and are being screwed by SW because they didn't find the tricks and fake booking ploys.

Such arrogance on the part of the responder. You are saying that just because we didn't know the tricks and secret ways to have your funds extended that we deserve to be screwed. You should be ashamed. You are clearly a frequent travel and have been on this site for some time so you know all the ways to game the system. I just joined this site and see all the arrogant comments by people like you. Makes me think you are a Southwest shill trying to make it seem like its OUR fault we didn't know the secret rules. Your kind suggested all we had to do was book another flight and cancel it between March and September. According to the original rules on SW even if you did that the ORIGINAL expiration date (in my case December 10, 2020) would apply. Why would I think that a trick would work? Why is Southwest only rewarding the secret insiders who know the tricks? I don't want a refund -- I want to USE my funds which will expire on Decem ber 10th in 2020. They told me I should just get on a plane and fly -- even though I'm nearly 70 and at high risk. They offered me no tricky workarounds. Guess they figure I was too dumb to find the secret tricks -- and they were right. Guess I am too dumb to think that they would only take care of the savvy people who sussed out workarounds and tricks to get SW to do the right thing. I just need for SW to extend these funds to next year when it will be safe for a 70 year old to get on a plane.

YES! A class action suit would be a great idea. Honest, ethical people didn't try to find dishonest workarounds to hang on to their travel funds. They trusted that Southwest would do the honest and ethical thing. I understand that airlines are losing money -- but Southwest received MILLIONS in government bailouts- that OUR taxpayer money. And they want to keep individual travelers money as well. That is corporate greed of the worst kind. I think the people on here are Southwest employee shills trying to blunt the egregious actions of Southwest by saying SOME people found out a trick to extend their funds. I didn't try any tricks -- just relied on the presumed decency of Southwest to do the right thing. Or arrogant people who are saying -- hey I figured out a way to cheat the system to bad for you that you are honest. Why would I book a new flight when I KNEW I couldn't fly? I'm nearly 70 years old and a widow and Southwest wants me to believe they desperately need my money to stay afloat. This is really appalling.

EXACTLY! They are allowing the people who know the secret rules to game the system to get their money in new tickets. But the ORIGINAL rules for tickets was even if you booked NEW tickets with travel funds and then cancelled they would still only extend to the ORIGINAL date they would have expired -- in my case December 10th. I've tried repeatedly to extend them through 2021 and been denied. I'm nearly 70, a widow with limited funds. The tickets were to be used to visit aging family. When they steal my funds on December 10th, 2020 that eliminates my chance to see them in 2021 before they die. I've just received anonymous form letters from Southwest with generic answers. No one suggested I book NEW travel and then cancel it during the arbitrary timeframe. Why would I have done something underhanded like that knowing I couldn't travel. So even though Southwest received MILLIONS in taxpayer money they want to screw a widow out her funds. How is this ethical?

So again they have secret ways to game the system and get around their outrageous refusal to honor travel funds? Southwest received MILLIONS in government bailout funds -- those came from TAXPAYERS MONEY. Now they want to keep even more of our money by cheating people out of their travel funds. There is no logical, ethical, or reasonable explanation for denying people their travel funds in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. They did not offer me this option when I wrote to them. I received an anonymous form letter citing a bunch of possible reasons why they want to steal my money. This is corporate GREED of the worst kind. Individually one-by-one stealing money from their loyal customers. This makes me sick.

Exactly - why is Southwest allowing those to game the system instead of doing the decent thing and honoring the tickets. Southwest receiving MILLIONS IN TAXPAYER BAILOUTS AND THEY ARE SCREWING US TWICE. I have been a loyal fan of Southwest for decades and now that I'm a widow on limited income they decided they need my money more than I do. This is nothing more than corporate GREED!

I am in the same situation except my travel funds are for myself and my daughter - total is $1,590 for the two tickets. I'm nearly 70 and a widow and my daughter has had open-heart surgery but Southwest is just telling me to get on a plane before they expire on December 10th. They don't care if we die. All I asked is that they extend them until it is safe for us to travel. The virus is surging and we are immuno-compromised. But I just got a form letter refusal saying sorry we'll just keep your money. Southwest received MILLIONS of dollars in government bailout. The "government money" is OUR taxpayer money. So they are screwing us twice. I've been a loyal fan of Southwest for decades and I'm shocked and appalled at their lack of consideration for individual circumstances. These tickets were to visit aging family and when it is safe for us to fly I won't have the money so we've lost the chance to see them before they die. I'm a widow on limited income and Southwest received millions already in bailout. Why hurt their customers?
