When is the cheapest time to fly to Mexico but still have great weather? Any particular events during those time, and would you recommend getting a guide?
Hello from SoCal! I frequently cross the border from CA into Tijuana Mexico for business and have some knowledge in this area.
If you want to save on airfare, I would also explore the flight options from TIJ Tijuana Airport to other Mexico destinations by taking a Southwest flight to SAN, and then using ground transportation to get to the CBX/TIJ Airport land border crossing.
This option would get you into the interior of Mexico via a separate Mexican domestic flight for a fraction of flying directly from the USA. To further save on cash, from SAN, you can take the free SAN airport "San Diego Flyer" shuttle to the San Diego Old Town Trolley Station. From there take the Blue Line Trolley south to the Iris Avenue Station. From there, you can uber to the CBX/TIJ Airport border crossing. If the CBX/TIJ pedestrian bridge toll is high, another workaround is to take the same trolley route all the way to the border, cross for free at San Ysidro and then Uber on the Mexico side to TIJ.
If you decide to cross by land, and you're a U.S. citizen and Mexico foreigner, you'll need to fill out an entry permit form (FMM) upon crossing. If you're staying more than 7 days, Mexico will collect a fee of about $41 USD ($687 pesos); otherwise FMM is free. I would still bring your passport book in lieu of the passport card as you'll be going into the interior but you can complete your entry permit paperwork ahead of time to expedite Mexico entry: https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html
I cannot comment on any of Mexico's airlines from TIJ regarding their baggage fees, etc as I've never used any of them but this would a nice little travel tip to save you some good money on airfare. Note that if you have Global Entry and want use the TIJ option, bring your active Global Entry land border crossing card as this will allow you to use the SENTRI pedestrian lanes when returning to the USA.

Ditto on the hotels.
RocketMiles is good backup too if your favorite hotel doesn't return as a SW Hotels Points Plus property:

Before you book, just do a quick price comparison via a direct booking inquiry and a Trivago or Google search. Also check the hotel's website for any resort, parking or other junk fees. That way, you'll know whether the points bonus is worth it. Based on my experience, most are worth it and I've been able to lock in some great deals with prices lower than booking direct, but I've also seen some offers that where either the base cost or fees were inflated and I said "no". I'll also toggle the "Free Cancellation" filter too.

Count me in!
Left SAN to SMF at 8am...
Took care of business, returned home at 4pm...
I'm one of those who has the ability to fly out somewhere and return same day thanks to multiple daily SW departures of short-haul flights from SoCal combined with having Global Entry to get me through TSA quickly and having decent ground public transit options to get me into town from the airport.
To name a few: https://community.southwest.com/t5/Inflight-Experience/Nov-23-Photo-Trip-Report-SAN-LAS-with-Formula-1-Track/m-p/165643

https://community.southwest.com/t5/Inflight-Experience/July-23-Photo-Trip-Report-SAN-SMF/m-p/161905
Before you attempt to do this, make sure you carefully review the departure options and check your whole itinerary and ground transportation options to ensure you're able to complete your business and be back at the airport on time. Including a buffer for potential travel disruption is a must. That's why you'll see in many of my trip reports that I'll go to a quiet spot in the airport upon arriving at a city to get remote work done before leaving the airport for my appointments.
My day trip limits from SoCal are the short-haul flights to/from LAS, PHX, and northern CA destinations. Should I need to go beyond those points, I'll likely need to stay over.
Also, if you qualify for PreCheck or Global Entry and don't have these, certainly get one of those so you can get through TSA quickly (or if unable, check out CLEAR or SW's options of getting you into the Priority Express Lane).

What did you decide to do? Looking for good ideas
I need 3200 points. Looking into the options that donot require me to fly and waste a day.
@mangud
I echo @DancingDavidE; I would do a hotel booking.
I would check the RocketMiles or Southwest Hotels Points Plus Properties for a 3,500 or 4,000 point offer near your location and book it as soon as possible. Based on my experience, the RR points for a Points Plus or RocketMiles property will usually post in about 72-96 hours after check out date, so try to find something for this weekend or for tonight if possible. Both portals are powered by Booking.com
https://www.southwesthotels.com/
https://www.rocketmiles.com/
Try to find a non-resort/non-destination hotel that goes no more than 1-2 nights (resorts/destination hotels usually tack on junk/resort fees). Note that most places will require a separate incidentals deposit that will get credited back a few days after check out date. Likely a two-night search in your area may get you what you need but I would book it for this weekend if you can.
Please note that you'll need to go to the actual hotel address on check-in day and go through the check-in process but you may be able leave the hotel from there. Before booking, I would confirm with the hotel directly to see if you can check out by simply leaving the key cards in the room. If they permit it, you can be done with the hotel after checking in, going to the room and leaving the keys there...or of course, you and your folks can enjoy the amenities there and the spend the nights there if able.

Hello-
I frequent LAS airport. As @dfwskier mentioned, you will be able to stay within the secured airside (sterile) area to connect between Southwest flights.
The Southwest gates used at LAS are in Terminal 1 and utilize either the B or C Gate Concourses. If you need to transverse in between the B and C concourses to make your connection without leaving the secured area, there's an airside connector corridor equipped with moving walkways that link the two concourses. Here's a map of the airport: https://harryreidairport.com/Maps?v=4
To access the airside connector:
From the B Gate Concourse to C Gates: Head toward the Starbucks Coffee located at the concourse's "hub" where the concourse splits off into different directions to the various B Gates. The connector is to the right of Starbucks. The wayfinder signs should also read "C-Gates" and will lead you into the walkway. Note: If you happen to be in or near the A Gate Concourse, there will be separate wayfinder signs that will lead you to the C and D gates, but exits the secure area via landside. To stay airside, follow the signs from the A gates to the B gates first and then look for the sign to go the C Gates near the Starbucks.
From the C Gate Concourse to B Gates: Head toward Gate C25 and follow the wayfinder signs near the Jamba Juice that will lead you into B concourse via the airside connector.

I am the parent of two young travelers. Each of my children and myself all have our own Known Traveler Number (KTN.) If I am accompanying them through security and to their gate can we all still go through TSA Pre-Check even though I do not have a ticket?
When they arrive at the airport for their return flight the person accompanying them to their gate does have a KTN. Does these mean they will have to go through the normal TSA line or will they be able to go through the TSA Pre-Check since both ticket holders have their own KTN?
Hello,
If you are accompanying minors to/from the gate utilizing a Gate Pass, you'll go through Standard Screening, not PreCheck regardless of membership. That's because current Trusted Traveler status is validated through the airline reservation which does not apply to Gate Passes.
From TSA's Website:
Do Gate Passes give TSA PreCheck® benefits to parents accompanying minors through security? No. Parents accompanying children through airport security via gate passes will always be directed to standard screening as TSA PreCheck benefits do not apply to gate passes. This applies even if the parent has enrolled in TSA PreCheck.

I would assume the answer is Yes as third-party flight trackers certainly "know" ahead of time and the gate monitors in the terminal reflect this.
For example, if one is waiting at the gate for a flight that is beginning its flight journey under its flight number but the inbound plane hasn't arrived yet, one can log into FlightAware and track the assigned inbound physical aircraft even though it would be operating under a different flight number.

I know many if not all airlines are trying to figure out how to board people quickly. I know another airline that just made a small improvement based on a study. My background is in software engineering and trying to make things efficient. So here's my suggestion. First of all, I am not including people who are exceptions to general rules like people in wheel chairs, people who need assistance, family with kids etc. In general, I believe people should be loaded from the back to the front of the plan. Allow a certain number of people to board early if they are willing to set in the back of the plane. For example, if there are 50 seats behind the wing of the plan, maybe allow 35 people to board earlier and enforce that they sit behind the wing. People WILL try to take advantage of the system. My second idea is probably not feasible but I at least I will state my observation. Many people stand in the middle of the aisle while they either get luggage put in the overhead compartment or somehow get situated in their seat. Here's the hard part. I think a nice, extra suggestion or help can come from a flight attendant so that the passenger is aware that they are holding up the line.
Hola!
In August, CNBC published a very informative 12 minute news story on "Why Airlines Won’t Fix Inefficient Boarding"...Southwest got a bunch of positive media coverage of its boarding process with a preview of how Southwest is further improving it. As of the time of the news story, the airline is trying out boarding communication monitors that are installed directly on the boarding pillars and playing upbeat music in the jetway.
The story also covers alternative boarding methods and the time required to execute according to a research doc published by Astrophysics Jason Steffen "Experimental Test of Airplane Boarding Methods".

Southwest will email the ticketholder confirmation of any Upgraded Boarding purchase. The subject line should read, "Congrats, (Name)! Upgraded Boarding is confirmed for your (Date/Destination) trip (Confirmation #)."
Do you still have access to these emails? If so, try searching for "Upgraded Boarding" as a subject and see how many emails show up in the results. The email also includes the last four digits of the credit card used if you need to confirm this. That should show you how many times you've purchased this benefit.

Hola @Vjester7
If able, I echo @StAugustine and @dfwskier and would pack them in your carry-on if able, especially the jewelry. It's always a good practice to transport valuables as carry-on (or in your personal item bag if possible in case you get separated from your checked baggage). However, if the signs have any pointed/sharp edges, TSA may have a problem with allowing them on the plane as carry-on. TSA has a really good portal to double check this:
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all
Twitter: @AskTSA Facebook Messenger: www.fb.com/AskTSA Apple Business Chat: AskTSA Text Message: Text "Travel" to AskTSA (275-872)
If that's the case, I would have these gifts shipped separately to your destination address in case TSA does not allow these to pass through.
If no sharp edges, then I would include these in your carry on but when going through TSA, I would voluntarily remove the signs from the carry-on and place them directly into the X-ray machine tray as it's possible they could still trigger a secondary inspection if packed away.

When it comes to preparing for weather storms, I find that it is wise to prepare for it (even if it turns out to be weaker than forecasted) than to not prepare and be surprised if it intensifies and causes damage. That's likely why the media tells us to "get ready!". Yes, it gets them ratings but the lesson is to be ready.
Tropical Storm Hillary was a clear example when it passed through SoCal last August. It was all over the news. We all prepared. Southwest issued a travel advisory and proactively changed/canceled a bunch of SoCal flights ahead of the storm.
A bunch of heavy rains arrived which painted the SoCal hillsides green in the middle of summer but the winds were moderate and not a whole lot of thunder and lightning. Had the winds come in stronger than forecasted and had Southwest and SoCal not prepare, the damage would have been much worse.

Yep...Southwest's payment policy is:
A maximum of three forms of payment per Passenger may be used to purchase an itinerary. The following may be used per Passenger: up to three flight credits, up to three Southwest gift cards, and/or up to two Southwest LUV Vouchers.
https://www.southwest.com/help/booking/forms-of-payment
However, there is a means to combine flight credits if one ends up with multiple credits from cancelling a multitude of flights. One can book a new flight of same/similar value with up to three flight credits but later cancel and receive one combined flight credit back. This process is similar to "converting" any non-transferable WGA flight credit to WGA+ transferable.
E.g. One can buy a new WGA+ flight using any combination of a LUV Voucher, flight credit and gift card for example, pay using the three options. That person would then later cancel the flight and receive a single transferable flight credit in return.

Have you tried the priceline express deals or Hotwire deals? Sometimes I have gotten some nice hotels for the price of 1-2 star hotels
glad to hear your trip went well though.
personally I’m very picky about my hotels (inn’s/drive up to door without security scare me 😂)
When I compare prices between Southwest Hotels and the hotel market, Trivago (and Google) will usually pick up the lowest base prices which includes Priceline and Hotwire. I always toggle the filter to show the rates for free cancelation and use that as my price point for the market rate.
I've also reviewed Priceline Express and Hotwire HotRate deals where one does not know where they're staying until after they paid...Like you, I need to review where I'm going before committing; I'm not a fan of buying non-refundable (and no return credit) hotel rooms and certainly will not do so blind. To be fair, Priceline Express at least shows one of a few "possible" locations as location "hints" on a map but I will not commit to staying anywhere unless I've reviewed the place and surrounding area first...security is certainly a factor. That's part of my hotel shopping process.
I've read stories of people buying blind only to placed at hotels that charge parking tolls or other hidden fees that erode the savings; other situations involve being placed too far from the destination or being placed in a "bad" part of town...The risk of this occurring is high for SAN and just about any other part of SoCal. I require knowledge of where I'm going and the assurance that I can cancel/change the booking without penalty in the event plans or prices change.
That's why I like Southwest Hotels Points Plus properties w/ free cancellation support...They offer generous points bonuses...I always compare with the base prices shown on Trivago to ensure the Rapid Reward points payback is fair...and just like the No-Change-Fee policy for Southwest flights, I can scrap the hotel booking and rebook at no charge if I see a better deal.

Hello Community Southwest:
Here's a trip report of my recent hotel stay in San Diego on a Friday night booked through Southwest Hotels. This is my second stay with the California Suites Hotel and of all the budget motels in the area, this inn delivers on value. Yes, this place will likely not win "San Diego's Hotel of the Year" award anytime soon but its low prices and comfortable amenities is a great hospitality inflation-buster alternative in my opinion. Plus, no deposits for single-night stays.
Had no issues at all with Southwest Hotels Booking or Check-in.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to take too many pictures of the hotel other than a couple morning photos of the pool area and the pond in the atriums to share on this forum. Check out my Report from October additional hotel pics.
https://community.southwest.com/t5/Rapid-Rewards/Oct-23-Southwest-Hotels-Five-One-Night-Trips-at-Five-Points-Plus/m-p/164993/highlight/true#M11236
Here's how SW Hotels pricing fared compared to the competition:
Room Type: Queen Room Rapid Rewards Points Plus: 1,000 SW Hotel Base Rate: $95 w/ Free Cancellation
Competing Booking Site Rates w/ Free Cancellation: Rocket Miles: $94 w/ 1,000 points Other 3rd Party Lowest Price per Trivago: $81 Direct: $96
The $14 price difference in return for the 1,000 CP-eligible points is a fair trade in my opinion. As mentioned, finding a regular hotel with a private room anywhere in the San Diego area on a Friday or weekend night can be difficult; many standard, non-resort hotels were pricing for well over $200 with some in the $300's.
Paying $95 w/ $1000 RR Points was a good deal.
The only issue I have had with this inn is that the pool/spa area is long past due for deep cleaning, possibly a renovation. The waters are actually clean and refreshing but the build-up on the surfaces can make the area uninviting. Also hoping they get the resources they need to restart their continental breakfast soon. They have a nice small dining hall next to the lobby that isn't used. This hotel also supports extended stays with some folks calling the hotel their home; keep that in mind. However, it's low prices and the overall value of this place means I have nothing to complain about. My original review of SAN's California Suites Hotel is on TripAdvisor.

Hi, Can anyone confirm this as I checked online but could not find the answer: I was just told by SWA customer service that upgraded boarding is non-refundable/ no credit - basically, forfeited when you change to another flight. Here is what happened to me: I upgraded Wanna get-away tickets to Business for two and paid the $100 to get a better seat position. On the day of the flight, we needed to switch to an earlier flight and we got help from the customer service agent at the gate - The Wanna get-away was credited and we paid the fee difference as the ticket fare was different, the agent told us that the upgraded boarding fee will be refunded/credited separately. It has been a few weeks now so I just called the SWA customer service to check on the status and was told all upgraded boarding fees are forfeited anytime you make a flight change and only refundable when SWA cancels the flight. Is this accurate and the agent at the gate was wrong? Thanks in advance
Hello-
By the looks of your post, did you upgrade your fare class from WGA to Business Select? Business Select comes with additional perks in addition to the A1-A15 boarding benefit and is refundable. Note that upgrading the fare class to Business Select is different from the Upgraded Boarding product which is not refundable and includes only the A1-A15 benefit for any other fare class holder if it's available--hence the confusion.
Is this correct? If so, the difference in fare from the original Upgrade-to-Business Select purchase should be due back. If this is the case, I would follow up with Customer Service again on the refund/credit status, but advise them that you originally upgraded your fare class to Business Select.

Using any other card besides that main Amex card will fix the issue.

I don't think Southwest would block the card. This looks like a technical error. As others have suggested, I would use another form of payment. If this error continues or occurs again when you buy a future ticket, I would email Southwest with the error codes.
One footnote: A few weeks ago, I attempted to order food on a major restaurant's phone app, attempted to pay with my bank's debit card and the card was declined due to a zip code mismatch (I checked my bank account and the billing address was not tampered, account was in good standing, and had no security flags active). Trying to pay with an Amex credit card failed too with the same reason (billing address is good, account good standing/no security locks). Paid with a different credit card (MasterCard) and the transaction went through.
After I ordered the food, I ordered some Christmas gifts on Amazon with the other two cards and they processed successfully; thus the restaurant's payment processor likely had a glitch with communicating the user-submitted zip code with the banks.

I haven't used SNA for a long time but as all the other users posted, A-List does not grant access to the PreCheck Lane.
I checked around the internet for SNA pics and found that some showed the Priority Express Lane labeled as "1st Class, Premium" which I think would be your lane. Do you recall seeing such a lane? If so, I believe that would be the Priority Express Lane that any A-Listers as well as Business Select and Anytime passengers can use regardless of PreCheck status. I would doublecheck with a SW Customer Service Agent but this appears to be your lane if you use SNA going forward.
By the way, definitely consider getting PreCheck if you're eligible or even Global Entry if you're thinking of doing any international travel which would include land border crossings to Mexico or Canada.

That's usually the pattern I see. Although it doesn't happen every Tuesday, I'll usually see some kind of promo announced on the second day of my workweek...This time, it's the "Super Low Sale Fare" promo--as low as $39 one way--which looks to be another nice one!
This sale goes through Mon 12/18 with U.S. travel valid 1/3-5/22/24. I may be able to get some of my spring trips booked during this promo whereas the prior WOW50 and CYBER30 sales only went as far as early March.

I have booked hotel in may 2024 in 2 weeks ago but never got confirmation email. Could email come later any other day or it's not normal
Hello! I'm a frequent customer of Southwest Hotels...The confirmation email is usually delivered no later than the first few hours of booking (mostly within the first few minutes after booking) after you see the "You're All Set" confirmation screen on the webpage. Since it's been a few weeks, I would try the following:
Go to Southwesthotels.com and click on "Manage My Booking". Click on "Resend Confirmation Email" by entering your email address.
The email should arrive within the next few minutes. If the email doesn't show, double check junk/spam. If that still doesn't work, it's possible that the email address that was entered at the time of booking was entered incorrectly. If that's the case, a Southwest Hotels/Booking.com rep will need to help you (note that this department is separate from Southwest Airlines Customer Service):
Here's the Southwest Hotels/Booking.com contact details:
concierge@southwesthotels.com 1-844-782-9792 773-770-4953
If you were not able to capture your confirmation number and/or receipt on the confirmation screen following your purchase, let the rep know that you did not receive the confirmation email and therefore don't have the confirmation number for your reservation.
Travel Tip: If your booking came with free cancelation, I would keep checking prices as your date of stay gets closer...that way, if prices drop, you can lock in the lower rate by cancelling and rebooking.

This was not a "Customer of size" nor had they purchased the extra seat. The woman probably weighed about 120lbs and was about 5'5" tall. So, no extra size at all. Just being difficult and being vocal about it. She literally stated that she was a priority customer and that I should be sitting the back of the plane since I boarded towards the end. That is actually not a policy.
Ok...That appears to be a rare exception, especially by her response.
As mentioned, this is not normal. As a side note, any Window seat toward the front of the plane is my preference and whenever I find an open Window seat in a section but find that the Aisle (or both the Aisle and Middle) are already taken, I'll first ask if the window seat is available before claiming it. Of all the times I've asked, the other passengers say, "come on in!"
Had I encountered the lady in question upon approaching the seat, asked her the same question but she instead boasted over her A-List status and tried to tell me to go to the back of the plane, I would have simply moved further back to avoid an altercation and look for the next available open seat, but probably would have later discreetly advised a Flight Attendant of the incident because to your point, the passenger is entitled to one seat.

I was stowing my bag on flight 943 today when I realized I did not have my leather jacket, and told my wife so (perhaps using an expletive). Flight Attendant Liz Kim overhead me, asked where I had been sitting, and called the pilot, who went to the gate and looked for my jacket. Ms. Kim asked it I had left it at the TSA checkpoint, which caused me to remember that I had taken off my jacket and put it on the conveyor belt and forgotten to retrieve it (it's hard to be 71 years old). Ms. Kim told me to call lost and found in San Diego when I got to San Francisco. I thanked her and resigned myself to the reality that I probably would not see my jacket again. I was wrong.
A few minutes later, Ms. Kim was walking down the aisle holding my jacket aloft. I'm not sure how she did it.
That jacket was important to me, but what impresses me it that it was important to Ms. Kim.
This can be an unkind world. Acts of kindness like Liz Kim's should be recognized and applauded. Thank you.
Great story, Greg!
Kudus to Liz Kim and your flight crew! Would you do them all a kind favor. Your nicely written praise published to this Customer-to-Customer forum will certainly be read by other readers but may not be processed by Southwest staff. Would you copy & paste your praise into an email directly to Southwest so that it can be processed. The contact form is linked below:

Feel free to do the same for the TSA staff too:

at airport boarding pass much smaller to fit in wallet or purse
If you print the PDF boarding pass at 100% scale on 8.5" x 11" paper in portrait layout (the Print Setting should also be 'Do Not Scale' or 'Actual Size'), you should be able to fold the print in half with all the boarding details and barcodes showing on the top half only. The Southwest promo's will show on the bottom half. When folded, that will give you a 8.5" x 5.5" paper footprint.
The print will still be a few inches taller than a printout from the airport (usually about 8" x 3.25") but the 8.5" x 5.5" print should fit AOK inside of a purse, backpack, or personal item bag.

Hmmm, interesting ---
I fly SW an average of about 35 times a year and have done so for years, and I am not seeing that.
Same here except for one flight that I took where the passenger occupying an Aisle seat near the front of the plane was a Customer-of-Size passenger who also reserved a second seat and needed to occupy a portion of the middle seat too. I was seated at the Window seat. Funny thing was that flight was full but it was just the two of us in that section. According to Southwest Policy, the Aisle passenger was entitled to use both seats.
@hmr9999
Did the person you saw "sprawling themselves" also fit the definition of the Customer-of-Size Policy (i.e.: When they were seated, did their body exceed the total width of the aisle or window seat and go beyond the armrest 'line' into the middle seat)? If so, they may have rightly purchased the second seat or spoke to the CSA's ahead of time and is entitled to use the space. If that's the case, that center seat is by definition, taken.
