Ok, as a former SWA F/A I have to put my two cents in...however worthless. The way I did it was if it was a full flight and a passenger was trying to save a seat I consider the following:
Where are they sitting? Most people fill up the front half faster because they want to be off as soon as they land. So if someone is sitting in the last few rows and they want to save a seat or two, in the same row, fine...I didn't care.
If the flight wasn't full, even less of a reason to care.
What I didn't put up with was people trying to fake like they are saving a seat next to them just to have the extra room. After you fly long enough, you can easily peg those types.

As an FA, I never allowed pax to save seats for people. Every passenger paid for the ability to choose a seat without worrying it's been set aside. They were always welcome to ask pax to switch with them so they can sit together if they chose to. But I also didn't make anyone swap seats just to accommodate people with grown children. Lol.

I stand by my last first post. That behavior from an FA is inexcusable.

Well, as a former SWA f/a, I can tell you what the SOP is. If aa passenger is intoxicated, and he manages to make past the gate agent, the flight Attendant can and should remove him from the plane. What happens if there is an unrelated emergency in the air, and this idiot is in the way of everything. What if he becomes belligerent, as many intoxicated people tend to do. I had zero tolerance for intoxicated passengers boarding.

I'm sure there are plenty of F/As that still love what they do. Things were so different when I was there. This was pre-AirTran. I miss it and am afraid I've lost touch with most of my coworkers. If any of you are on here, this is Gus (e77331), graduated class 215 in May 2005. Hope to hear from some familiar faces. Thanks for the input dfwskier.

What is going on with Southwest Airlines? This is a company close to my heart and the absolute best job I ever had (flight attendant, DAL based 2005-2011), but I just don't recognize it anymore. I don't know what the employee culture is like or how it's changed in the last 14 years, but the last time I flew on SWA in January of this year, not a single F/A looked like they were enjoying their job. I'm very sad about all the changes, price hikes, and issues they've had lately as an airline. I feel "uncle Herb's" vision has been lost in the weeds. Either that or he just didn't anticipate the advance of technology. Should the airline go back to its roots? Remember what worked and why people preferred a "low-cost" carrier. Any comments?...
