You did not need to purchase early bird. An adult traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the “A” group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding. If the child and the adult are both holding an “A” boarding pass, they should board in their assigned boarding positions. If you check in and are both A then you would board at the highest number. The A group is only 1-60 and there are tipically 143 or 175 seats on the plane. You will have no problem sitting together.

This would be the procedure. Non-passenger escort According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), all persons passing through security checkpoints must have a boarding pass, security document, or another type of authorization from the airline. As such, we offer Non-Passenger Escort (NPE) passes to people who are accompanying or meeting a Customer with a disability to/at the Customer's gate. NPE authorization should be requested from a uniformed Southwest Airlines Employee at our ticket counter or Skycap podium. Individuals who desire an NPE should advise the Employee of his or her need to accompany/meet a Southwest Passenger to/at the gate to accommodate the Passenger's disability. The individual who desires a NPE pass will need to present photo identification and detail the Southwest Customer's itinerary. We recommend reviewing our Suggested Airport Arrival Times page to help determine when individuals should arrive at the airport terminal so that you have plenty of time to park, wait in line to receive a NPE pass, go through the security checkpoint, and get to the gate. It's important to explain that the TSA, not the airlines, is responsible for security checkpoints. If the flight arrival occurs after security checkpoint has closed for the evening, then we will not be able to provide a NPE pass.

Companion Pass qualification will be based on a calendar year! Once Companion Pass status is earned, the Member can begin using his/her Companion Pass immediately once he/she has designated a Companion. The Member will maintain Companion Pass status for the remainder of the calendar year in which the status was earned and for the entire calendar year immediately following. To continue receiving Companion Pass privileges, the Member must requalify each calendar year. The beginning validity date and/or expiration date of Companion Pass status or a Companion Pass card may not be adjusted. Companion Pass A Member who earns 110,000 Companion Pass qualifying points or who flies 100 qualifying one-way flights booked through Southwest Airlines per calendar year will qualify for Companion Pass. Companion Pass qualifying points are earned from revenue flights booked through Southwest Airlines, points earned on Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Cards, and base points earned from Rapid Rewards Partners. Purchased points, transferred points transferred between members, points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club, points earned from program enrollment, tier bonus points, flight bonus points, and partner bonus points (with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not qualify as Companion Pass qualifying points. Points earned during a billing cycle on a Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card from Chase are not available for redemption or qualification for Companion Pass status until they are posted on your billing statement and posted to your Rapid Rewards Account. Only points posted on your billing statements and posted to your Rapid Rewards Account during the same calendar year are available for qualification for Companion Pass status. No points or Companion Pass qualifying points will be awarded for flights taken by the Companion using the Companion Pass.

Southwest is a great Airline with many perks like free bags, free seats, no change fees and refundable and non refundable tickets. Other Airlines do not offer half as much. Here is their nonrefundable policy: "Travel Credit Forfeiture. Should a Passenger fail to apply the nonrefundable Ticket or travel credit toward the purchase of future travel within the eligibility period, the entire amount of the fare, including all taxes, security fees, and Passenger Facility Charges, will be forfeited." If Southwest had canceled your flight you could have done this: Delays or Involuntary Cancellations. If a Passenger’s scheduled transportation is canceled, terminated, or delayed before the Passenger has reached his final destination as a result of a flight cancellation, Carrier-caused missed connection, flight delay, or omission of a scheduled stop, Carrier will either transport the Passenger at no additional charge on another of Carrier’s flights, refund the fare for the unused transportation in accordance with the form of payment utilized for the Ticket, or provide a credit for such amount toward the purchase of future travel."

How badly do you want the Companion Pass? and how much are you willing to spend? I would do what you have sugested below, and if the points do not post in time then I would suggest you take a short flight before Dec 31 to an airport close by to get the points to qualify you for the Companion. Also if you have the Southwest Airlines Credit Card your points for Dec will post about 5-7 days after your due date. Good Luck!

Here are the only hotel partners that you will receive base points from. When you book through the Southwest Airlines website for Hotels look at the Partners listed below, these are the ones that will count towards Companion. In my opinion if your are getting 30,000 points it will not go for the Companion!
