Hi, @Bandy,
Thanks for following up regarding the additional documents for your profile! The "Why Southwest" essay is only needed for internship applications (although it is a great question to know the answer to prior to any interview with our Team!) Letters of Recommendations will be asked for when a candidate comes for an in-person interview with us. Best of luck throughout the ELDP application process!

Hi, @AtlantaUser,
This is a great question! There are several reasons why our Flight Crew may have so many bags, including:
•Our Flight Attendants and Pilots work multiple-day trips. The typical trip is three days, meaning they must have enough clothes, toiletries, and even food to make it through their trip.
• Flight Attendants and Pilots must wear a uniform. While they can usually wear a uniform piece more than once, they have to be prepared in case they can’t. For a typical three-day trip, that’s typically two full uniforms.
• They need casual clothes, too! Since our Flight Crew don’t wear their uniform for their off-time, when they arrive at their destination for the night they have to have personal clothes to wear—that means another pair of shoes (at least!) and one or two casual outfits.
• There may be variety of climate. Some Flight Attendants and Pilots may know where they will be each day of their trip—but, there is something called “reserve” which means they must be prepared for various climates. They may end up one day in Las Vegas, and the next night in Buffalo.
• Commuting – Many of our Flight Crew “commute’ to their base city. For instance, if a Flight Attendant lives in Ft. Lauderdale and is based in Baltimore, they may need to travel the day before their three-day trip begins in Baltimore. They also may have to spend another night in Baltimore at the end of their trip, before they can commute back home.
• Food – As you mentioned, a lot of Flight Attendants and Pilots can’t survive on peanuts and pretzels during their work day so they bring an additional “food bag.”
Even with all of this, Flight Crew are still limited to one carryon (roller bag), a personal item (usually a tote or backpack), and a food bag. Also, they must carryon all of their bags because they may have to switch planes quickly.
As you can see, life as part of our Flight Crew requiries resilience and flexibility. These jobs certainly aren't for the faint of heart, and we are so proud of the Employees that make it a career!

Hi, @BamaAg89,
Congratulations on your impending retirement! We are thrilled that your would love to continue your career with us. The application timeline changes dependent on the position or, as @Bertha mentioned, the station that you are wanting to work in. Due to this variety, it is difficult to give you a specific date to begin applying, but I would recommend starting the process in March 2018. If you are looking at a smaller station or more niche position, I would recommend applying anytime beginning in January 2018. If you are interested in being a Flight Attendant with us, this role is typically only posted once a year and, due to the volume of applicants, the process can take longer than usual. So, I would recommend applying whenever you see that it is posted. Best of luck throughout the process!

We are so excited to hear that you are interested in becoming a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines! Once your resume is submitted, it will be reviewed in the order it was received. The first step is a telephone interview. If selected from that point, you would move to an in-person interview that would be conducted by a Recruiter and a current SWA Flight Attendant. Applicants will also be required to pass a physical performance standards test. The process can take a while, so please be patient!
As part of our appearance standards policy for crew members, we do not allow any visible tattoos while wearing the uniform. It is a requirement that tattoos must be covered at all times. I hope that we will see your application the next time the Flight Attendant position is posted!
