we are going to gate check a stroller. Does the stroller need to be in a bag?

Nope, just get a tag from the gate desk when you get to the gate and then walk it down the end of the jetway and collapse it.

A bag would be at your option if there was any worry about the stroller coming open while being handled or scuffing from the handling.
We’ve always used the Southwest blue bags $17 available at the ticket counter to help prevent scuffing and also provides a nice handle as well as a place to put the luggage tag, keeps anything from popping out and getting broken.
Home airport MDW, frequent visitor to MCO to see the mouse.

Would ticket counter checking be easier if baby held ?
