Re: Unable to refund even with the Coronavirus

All other airlines are refunding. Our baseball team was going to Cooperstown this summer and we were flying on different airlines. All that didn't choose SWA are getting their money refunded. I don't understand why SWA wouldn't refund due to the circumstances. I have 5 tickets and we never fly, so we just lost all our money!

Well, that isn't completely correct.

ALL AIRLINES are refunding tickets when THE AIRLINES cancels flights.

NO AIRLINES are refunding tickets when PASSENGERS cancel their flights.

You can always appeal SW's policy to the airline's customer relations department via Twitter (@Southwestair), or phone at 1-855-234-4654

Sorry but u for one jet blue returned my brothers money for his flight after he canceled as well as the money he paid for luggage. It was a non refundable flight! So shame on southwest. I booked my flight to Jamaica and since my resort isn’t planning on opening til Oct 8th and that is still uncertain as we were arriving on October 24th we canceled. I didn’t get money back and have to use 1,700 in funds for us before sept 2022. Hopefully they don’t go under before that!

There are conditions that would allow for a cash refund on a nonrefundable fare on Southwest just like there are on JetBlue and other airlines. If you had done a little reading here in the Community the number one thing you would have seen is DO NOT cancel your flight until a day or two before it is scheduled to depart. If Southwest had rescheduled or canceled your flight you would have been entitled to a full cash refund. Canceling almost two months before departure like you did does nothing to help you and only ensures that you end up with travel funds.

AWESOME POST. Id love to subpoena DWSKIER (top contributor) flight records. I bet he flys all the time . I challenge him to disclose if he ever got a free flight/upgrade/ gift card etc from SW

Alright here you go: I have NEVER flown a free flight on Southwest. I have NEVER received a gift card from Southwest. Southwest doesn't give "upgrades" so I've NEVER gotten one of those either.

Happy now?

Oh, and yes I do fly all the time, and pay for every one of my tickets too

I to have basically the same problem. Booked a group of ten people of which 9 are over the age of 70. Because I got a group rate,I would not be able to cancel this reservation and use the funds for another time during the year time period. The group of us all think this is a form of discrimination. What difference does it make as long as we use it at sometime in the future? I and other members of the group fly Southwest and have cancel before and used flights within one year of fly date. I think because we are senior citizens Southwest thinks we do not have to be treated  like other customers.

@saltmanone While group travel does provide some benefits not available to individual travelers such as free name changes and reduced up front payments, it does appear to not allow cancelations. You may want to call the group travel number to double check. This has nothing to do with age, it's a restriction of booking the flight as a group instead of individually.

I have checked and what you state is true . It is my opinion that the money was paid like any other customer and thus the same options for individuals should apply to  group purchases as well. When one is given a a discount because of a bulk purchase ,options for a single purchase  apply. I just feel Southwest is discriminating.

It seems to be that replies at this site are handled by a person know as the middle seat and a person with the name jesssica.

I am new to the site and before my current situation have liked flying Southwest, Not only just because of price The 2 bags free perk, the ability to cancel and have funds to use for up to a year from date of purchase are all great perks.

However only seeing basically the above two names that answer replies ,it is not truly a community forum.

I am known as saltmanone and ask that you look at my complaint under travel policies.

The middle seat has been the only one to reply and seems to favor Southwest.
