I have been flying Southwest for years and this has never come up for me. My daughter, her husband and 2 daughters ages 9 and 6 are flying next week. Can they all board during family boarding or will 2 of them have to board at their assigned position? Also, do they have to go to the desk at the gate to get special boarding passes to board during family boarding? Thanks!!

lt looks like Spirit and Delta have non-stop flights from New Orleans to Los Angeles, which would take care of fear #1. I'd go Delta as Spirit can be uncomfortable.

Flew this morning from Fort Myers to Hartford. There were 3 people on the plane wearing masks including my neighbor. My wife and I did wipe down the seat, armrests, seathack in front of us, tray table, wall next to me, shade, all the call buttons and vents. Not the only passengers doing this. The FA came around just before takeoff collecting wipes.

I was told that it could not be done at a self-check kiosk but an agent at the desk would take care of it and put the pink TRANSFER tag on the bags.

I have rebooked several times due to price decreases and have gotten error messages. I've found that the best way to do it is to call and talk to a real person.

I usually try to get the first flight out to my destination, which means it could be a 5:00 or 6:00 AM flight, so I have to get up pretty early to get to the airport. EBCI is worth it to me because I don't have to get up at 5:00 or 6:00 the day before the as well. It's all a matter what is worthwhile to you.

My wife and I both paid for Precheck so both go to that line. However, I had a hip replacement and request a full-body scan. She goes through the regular scanning line. We are separated at that point, but meet up after security. Being separated is not a big deal for us as we know where to meet up.

I picked my bag off the belt late one night in Orlando and one of the wheels was halfway off. Fell off completely as I was going to the car rental area. I was not aware of the four-hour rule and reported it the next morning. SWA would not replace the bag but did give me a $75 credit for future travel which I am using this weekend, in fact!

Possibly true but probably not. Preboarders and families would also board ahead of them.

I had a flight booked from FLL to PVD with one stop that left FLL at 6:00 PM. The departure time was changed to 5:40. That opened the door for me to book a nonstop on the same day at 10:50 am FOR 4,000 FEWER POINTS! Thanks, Southwest!

"SW says seats cannot be saved" Not true. SW has no policy on saving seats, as many hundreds of posts here will attest.

My wife has arthritic knees and must get up and walk up and down the aisle several timed during each flight. Thus, she needs an aisle seat at the front or back of the plane. To quote Southwest's rule: [She has] a specific seating need to accommodate [her] disability . We get EBCI as a matter of course as it is worth it to me to not have to watch the clock to check in. Even getting B-20s boarding positions we have never had a situation where we have not gotten the seat arrangement she needs. We could probably get early boarding based on her seating need, but it really isn't necessary. If only some of the people who use early boarding would think "is this really necessary or is there another way to get the seat I need" it could reduce the number of preboarders and the stigma that is attached to them throughout these forums.

SWA really should come up with better terminology regarding EBCI as people who do not fly often post to this forum confused about the 36 vs 24 hour thing. Maybe something to the effect of "Early Bird Check-in automatically assignes your boarding position 36 hours before your flght. However, you will still have to check in 24 hours (or less) before your flight. You will find out what your boarding position is when you check in." Or, although it would be a massive undertaking, change Early Bird Check-in to Early Bird Seat Assignment.

Between the time you were automatically checked in and you checked in your husband, the person who was checked in at A30 cancelled and that boarding position became available. That is part of the chance you take when you use EBCI.

If you change your flight in anticipation of a snowstorm BEFORE the advisory is posted, you will have to pay the difference in price between your original flight and your rescheduled flight.

I have taken many early flights, all out of PVD. My experience is that the counter opens 2 hours before the first flight. I took a 5:10 am last year and the counter opened at 4:10 (and not a momenta before). TSA checkpoint opened at 4:00.

Once sat for 2 hours in the waiting area in BOS because the pilot of our plane was the pilot of a flight into Manchester, NH. The idea was that he would be picked up at MHT by Southwest and whisked to Boston for our flight, a trip that usually takes less than an hour. There was an accident along the way, not thepilot, and it took him 2.5 hours to get to Boston, thus delaying the flight, At least that was the story they told us. Got comped drinks when we finally took off.

The FlightRadar24 app lets you track a particular flight in terms of the aircraft, flight number and the ininerary. I start using it on the day before I fly and I can see where my aircraft has been, where it is going, and whether it is going to be on-time. I like to take early flights and I can double-check with this app to make sure the plane has arrived at the airport the night before and will be ready to go early the next morning.

There is also a baggage check serving multiple airlines on the B side at the front of the rental car return area on the first floor of the parking garage. After you drop off your car, walk toward the terminal. The bag check desk is located a few steps to the right of the Alamo check-in booth in the garage. Check your bags, cross the road and you are in the terminal. If you want to use it, you should check your bags at least 90 minutes before the flight. There may also be one on the A side, but I have not been there.

Having a disabled parking placard should not by itself qualify someone to preboard. I have a disabled parking placard but do not need to preboard. Also, I do not carry my placard on the plane.

Quick hint: If you plan to use the kiosk at the airport to print a boarding pass, put a piece of masking tape on your carryon and write your confirmation number on the tape. That way when you get to the airport you can find your confirmation number without having to pull out any pieces of paper or your phone. Or if you have a good memory, just memorize it.

Just a thought: Since senior fares are more expensive across the board than WGA fares, maybe your ticket was actually the less expensive one. I am a senior but have never used senior fare.

My wife and I always get early bird more for the automatic check in than for the boarding position. Means we don't have to get up early the day before our flight to check in or keep track of time on our last day of vacation. Our lowest boarding position using early bird was in the low B-40s. (Highest, btw, was A-18)There were a lot of preboarders and family boarders on that flight, which meant by the time we got on there were only a few single seats available near the front of the plane. One window and one aisle. As wer prefer to sit toward the front, we took the two single seats. We were not sitting together, but we somehow survived. In our minds, it is better to sit apart for 2 1/2 hours and exit earlier than to sit together in the back of the plane and wait to get off.

Oone of the most used phrases here in the community is "Southwest has to change its position" or "Southwest has to change its rules." Southwest is not going to change its position or rules for every different situation (or variation on the same situation) that comes up. If they did that they would be changing the rules all the time. Instead, passengers need to understand what the rules are and also understand that flying Southwest means flying within certain rules and policies. Same goes for every other airline. Learn the rules and understand that the rules apply to everyone who flies Southwest and are not a personal affront to you. Sorry for the long rant.
