From personal experience, the long wait for an answer is normal. Notifications differ from opportunity to opportunity. Sometimes they take a few days, sometimes they take a few months. If you don't get the position, you will be receiving an e-mail telling you so. (It goes without saying that you should check your spam folder for mis-routed messages.) With the volume of job candidates that Southwest handles, I'm sure that some candidates may be occasionally overlooked. If you don't hear something soon, you may try reaching out to the recruiter you interviewed with. Don't give up yet!

I would have continued on with the regional however I had some personal things going on in my life that caused me to leave training. I had a great experience with regional and have nothing bad to say except I didn't like the city where training was conducted. I'm not sure which regional carrier you worked for or which job you had, but my experience at a regional was that the pay on the ramp was much lower than the mainline carrier for essentially the same workload. I eventually moved from the ramp to another position and found that my salary nearly doubled when I transferred to the mainline carrier. Mind you, this was a few years back and things may be different today. But based on my experience, I would not recommend a ramp job at a regional airline to anybody given that so many mainline carriers are hiring for the same position.

@kimmygme @Jennie0395 I won't deny that trying to get a job at Southwest can be frustrating and sometimes disappointing. I've been trying for 30 years myself. But remember, Southwest is known for it's great People and hires only the best. Of course, that doesn't mean that you aren't the best. It simply means that they haven't figured out that you are the best yet, and it's up to you to convince them. Don't give up. Keep applying for jobs that fit your qualifications and interests and keep learning all you can about Southwest and how it's different from other workplaces. Engaging on the Community is a great way to learn and stay current on Southwest happenings. Good luck to you both. Perhaps soon we will all be happy members of the Southwest Family!

From personal experience, the time you wait to hear from Southwest varies from position to position. I applied for one position on May 17 and didn't hear anything from Southwest until June 28. I applied for another position last Monday (June 25) and heard back from Southwest today. Patience truly is a virtue when trying to join the Southwest Family, but the end result is well worth the wait! Stay positive and keep us posted how it goes.

Here's what the TSA website says: Canned Foods Carry On Bags: Yes (Special Instructions) Checked Bags: Yes There are some items that are not on the prohibited items list, but because of how they appear on the X-ray, security concerns, or impact of the 3-1-1 rules for liquids, gels and aerosols, they could require additional screening that might result in the item not being allowed through the checkpoint. We suggest that you pack this item in your checked bag, ship it to your destination or leave it at home. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/canned-foods So the general guidance seems to be to pack it in your checked bag but there's nothing prohibiting you from carrying it on, except maybe the amount of liquid in the can. For the benefit of your fellow Customers, I suggest that you do not open the can of tuna inside the cabin (but you already knew that).

I'm sorry to hear that you did not receive the legendary great service that Customers have come to expect on Southwest. Flight Attendants certainly should not be questioning each other in front of the Customers. As to why you were asked to move to the back lavatory, I wonder if one of the pilots was using the front lavatory at the time. Airlines have security procedures that require a flight attendant to block access to the cockpit while a pilot uses the lavatory. Asking passengers to move to the back lavatory seems like a logical extension of that procedure.

I'm going in February and would rather fly Southwest than the alternatives, but just being told to wait isn't going to work for much longer. Any answers? Also, remember that the answer to your question isn't entirely within Southwest's control. Part of the holdup is due to getting the necessary approvals from the U.S. government, including Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards ("ETOPS") approval from the FAA. The fact that Southwest posted the Honolulu Station Manager job on their careers website last week is an indication that plans are moving ahead and an announcement may be coming soon. Be patient for just a little bit longer.

Sorry about the poor experience that you had on Southwest. As the Southwest Community is a passenger-to-passenger forum, it is unlikely that any Southwest Customer Relations employees will see your post. You can reach Southwest Airlines Customer Relations by calling 855-234-4654 or by using one of the ways mentioned on the Southwest Airlines Contact page: https://www.southwest.com/contact-us/contact-us.html For your privacy, I recommend removing your e-mail address from your post.

When Flight Attendant opportunities are available, they'll be posted there. Good luck to you!

I'm sorry to hear about the misunderstanding that you had with Southwest. I recommend that you do send an e-mail to Southwest to explain the entire situation in detail and hopefully they can investigate and resolve the service problem to your satisfaction. If English is not your native language, I suggest mentioning your native language in your e-mail to Southwest. Perhaps they will have a representative who can communicate with you in your native language so that you are fully understood.

If not, SW could charge the people flying with pets the same fare for their pets that they would charge a passenger; that would put an end to most of the phonies looking for a cheap or free way of transporting their pets. For those who need an ESA, limit seating to the back of the plane. That way, those of us that don't want to share our space with someone's animal will be able to enjoy the flight as best we can. The Air Carrier Access Act ("ACAA") does prohibit airlines from charging a fee for support animals. Unfortunately, Southwest (and the other airlines) have very little leeway in regard to carrying service animals. Passengers who are concerned about the possibility of fake service animals would be better advised to contact their U.S. Senator or Congressman than the airline.

My experience has been that pre-boarders are enforced not to take exit rows, I don't think I've seen it a single time in hundreds of flighs. Connecting through passengers however snatch those seats up! That was my thought exactly. Flight Attendants are very diligent about who sits in the exit row. I can't imagine them letting six pre-boarders take the entire row.

I second what @franktravel said about checking the Southwest Careers page every day. In fact, I would recommend checking it several times a day if you have the time. Jobs at MDW tend to be very popular and are usually only posted for a day or two before they are unposted. It would behoove you to be one of the first candidates to apply. I should get a Community badge for using "behoove you" properly in a sentence.

Good job Angela! Once again, Southwest People show what sets Southwest apart from the other airlines. I'm happy that Angela was able to reaccommodate you so that you arrived only two hours after your original flight. Plus, you were given the opportunity to pick up souvenirs from Nashville for all your friends and family, so "bonus."

Whether or not a Customer chooses to assert that right depends on how strongly they feel about maintaing their personal space. While I know you were uncomfortable, I commend you for your patience and restraint. As @Passenger1C mentioned, the other passenger was likely embarrassed and uncomfortable also. It was neither expected nor required but by sacrificing your comfort, you avoided a potentially embarassing situation for your seatmate. In the future, I suggest lowering your armrest as soon as you sit down. That will send a message to other Customers that you wish to maintain your personal space and perhaps encourage them to find a different seat if they are too large to fit within the armrests.

I know that's disappointing news but don't give up! I've literally been trying to join the Southwest Family for 30 years but always seem to end up at one of those other airlines instead. However, I keep trying because I know that Southwest is more than just a job, it's a passion! If Southwest is where you see your future, I recommend that you keep applying for jobs that fit your qualifications and interests. Good luck to you! P.S.- I've had a few of those "so sorry" e-mails in the past year so I know you're pain.

@nateraide004 wrote: Would I be able to get a position as a flight attendant while living in Austin, or do I need to relocate and move to a city where there is an airport base? If the answer is that I need to relocate, is this a standard rule across all airlines, or do some allow you to work from any airport? I'm also interested to find out why this rule would be in place. The general rule among the airlines is that you only have to be at your crew base when you are on duty. It is quite common for flight crews to live in one city and commute to their crew base in another. Most flight attendants get what is known as a "crash pad" at their crew base. A crash pad is an apartment or home close to the airport shared by a bunch of airline employees. It's usually filled with couches and/or beds. Any flight attendant who has been around for more than six months can recommend a good crash pad. You can also stay in the crew lounge in the airport or at a local hotel if you can afford it. Your crew base is determined by your seniority. I'm not positive but I'm guessing that the Dallas and Houston flight attendant bases are fairly senior, so you probably won't be able to hold one of the bases close to your home in Austin. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll try my best to answer them.

If the position is posted as full-time, that is likely all that is available. However, once a new-hire Ramp Agent passes the mandated probationary period (6 months, I think), the position allows a lot of schedule flexibility through shift trades with other agents. So, even if you're hired as a full-time Ramp Agent, you are eventually able to give some of your shifts away to other agents to better accommodate your schedule.

Southwest has rewarded you for your business by allowing you to board in the A group. They are already putting you ahead of other fare-paying Customers. But this reward is only for you and does not extend to your family. If this policy does not work for you, then simply put, Southwest is not the right airline for you.

If the reason for the cancellation was within Southwest's control (and mechanical issues meet this criteria), Southwest should provide food and lodging. My experience is that most airlines at a given airport maintain a list of local hotels for just this type of event and even have agreed-upon rates with the hotels. I'm amazed that the Southwest rep told your wife that she was on her own because getting hotels for delayed customers is a fairly common occurence. I would contact Southwest directly and ask them about submitting the hotel receipt: https://www.southwest.com/contact-us/contact-us.html I'm sorry to hear about the poor service that your wife received. This certainly isn't typical for Southwest.

Hello Chicagoland peeps! If you've ever dreamed of working outside during the winter in Chicago, here's an opportunity for you! Southwest posted a full-time Ramp Agent opportunity at MDW today. You can find it here: https://careers.southwestair.com/job/22792/Ramp-Agent I've worked the ramp at other airlines and, to be honest, it's the best job at any airline. You get to work outside around the aircraft and get paid for getting tan (Jun-Sep) and fit! If you have a Warrior Spirit, Servant's Heart, and Fun-luving Attitude and just need an opportunity to get your foot in the door at Southwest, this is a great place to start!
