I flew yesterday and had FIVE people on my plane. Monday it was less than 30. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

As expected, Southwest relaxed their expiration deadlines. As usual, they exceed every other airline's customer service.

Please go fly another airline. I prefer to be surrounded by understanding people on my airplane, not ranting hyperbolic complainers. Oh, by the way, the spelling is "losing", not "loosing". Proper grammar, fewer capitals, and less cross-posting the same rants is a much better way to get people to listen to you.

You waited 10 months to use your funds, and then cancelled a flight (arguably) before the full impact of this virus had hit. Seems like SW is being reasonable with their rules. You want them to retroactively change them? Although, I do commiserate with the new money you added being "tainted" by the expiration of the travel funds. That is an unfortunate side effect of their otherwise quite generous policy, to which there doesn't seem to be a simple solution that is more equitable that would also not be abused. All things considered, I'd wait until they expire, call up and see what you can get. Maybe it's $200, but maybe it'll be less. I figure more likely they'll extend the expiration time to 12 months. We can hope. Good luck. In the big scheme of things, it could be a lot worse than $200.

And...travel funds need to be used by the originally ticketed passenger. So, even though you bought the tickets, they are permanently attached to their respective traveler. (The unwritten $100 waiver may unlock them, but I'm not aware of it). If you use the travel funds for a more expensive ticket, then cancel that ticket, the additional cash you spent on the second ticket will revert to a travel fund with the ORIGINAL expiration date. So "new money" can get tagged as "old" if you're not careful.

I'm in the same boat. Er...plane. I just booked a trip for four (ALP/CP-AL/points/points) to Kauai. I guess the kids will not be A-list worthy, being on their own reservation (although I did put my RR on their booking). So...I figured I'd just board with family boarding. I think we'll be fine. I didn't plan on sitting in the front anyways. All the cool kids sit in back...

Keep in mind that you can be contagious without being symptomatic. Ergo, you are your only source of protective behavior. Follow proper etiquette in public and there's a slight risk, or you can choose to stay home. Any sort of more restrictive behavior really won't be too effective. In my personal opinion, I'm not changing my behavior much at all...airplanes or otherwise. But then, I'm not in a high risk group (aka. elderly or immune compromised).

So it sounds like you don't REALLY care where you sit, but you care enough to either pay extra? Or you just want to pay extra not to see them walk on the plane ahead of you? You seem conflicted. It's your money. Just be sure you realize what you're truly paying for. In my opinion, the mere notion of losing $200 if I can't catch a flight, or decide to fly earlier in the day, is absurd. If it means watching annoying people board early, or cram oversized bags into the overhead that should have been (free) checked already, I'll accept it. They'll still be idiots before and after the flight, and I'll still use my free drink coupon to temper my disdain for them. Fair trade-off. As a "ffflyer", I'm kinda surprised you're not A-list already.

No, his attire is not threatening. Anyone keeping up will know that a facemask won't help you.
If anything, it MAY be a sign that the WEARER has the virus and is attempting to not infect others. In that case, I could see it being judged as disruptive. But as we know, people are generally ignorant, and that isn't a crime. Neither is wearing religious garb, specifically because it is a protected class under the law.
In your case, however, you fall under no such protected class. So it falls to a judgement call by the airline. Your rights were not violated, at least not prima facia. You're welcome to challenge it in a court of law, but I suspect you'll lose. I'm sure you would if I were on the jury. It's apparent from your attitude even here that your intent was not just personal safety, but indeed to be disruptive.
Good luck.

Skyrocketing seems a bit hyperbolic, but I suspect two things might have contibuted to the rise: 1. Fares seem to be higher at first, outside of sales. Often times, they go down, during sales, as the WGA fares aren't consumed at the "list" prices. Always check your ticket and grab a rebate if you can. 2. Good flight slots are more expensive due to the change waiver allowed for flights in spring and summer. Tickets bought at cheap midweek fares were swapped for high demand Fri and Sun tickets with no increase in price. That said, I wonder how Corvid cancellations will affect near-term pricing. Hmmm...might be some discounts to be had, even last minute?

Sorry to hear about your issues. That does suck, especially when they usually have better offers. That said, SW points are generally valued over 1.5 cents per point. So 40,000 points is worth over $600 in free airfare, which is a heck of a lot more than $200. Not to mention, those points are credit towards a companion pass for next year. Collect another 75,000 points through flying or any combination of credit card purchases or other qualifying points and you can fly a companion free through 2021. I did this last year, thanks to a lot of work flying. Hope you find a resolution.

Really, take a breath and think. a. The coronavirus is mainly in Asia. SWA flies mainly in the USA. b. More people are killed by the flu than by the coronavirus. Ergo, you really have two choices. a. Don't leave your house. You are just as likely to get the virus out in public than flying around on SWA. b. Realize that it's all overblown hype and fear and you need to just keep living your life. Seriously...relax.

Resurrecting a dead topic with no answer... Any idea how likely a checked bag is going to stay with my earlier standby flight? It seems unlikely, especially on a nearly full flight where the seat is only released in the last 15 minutes. Sometimes I have luggage that has to be checked, and even if I could carry it, it's nice to be able to go standby without delaying the flight trying to stash ANOTHER carryon. Gonna try to move up a flight tonight...

Why did you pay extra? Seems like the chances of you getting a middle seat next to your A-lister husband is about 100%. Other airlines would be penny wise, pound foolish in my opinion.

Negative comments? Hardly. Jess was just being realistic about the complications of such a system. In short, it would allow points to be shared above and beyond the existing system, and the potential for confusion and abuse is significant. They already allow you to purchase tickets for others using points, and they currently allow you to transfer points (for a fee). Creating a "joint checking account" would reduce the fees from the latter, and allow people to freely spend other's points. I can see why SWA wouldn't appreciate either situation.

Why do you care? It doesn't affect you in the slightest. As long as he's quiet...he could be watching anything. Where the data comes from is immaterial. And no, leaving his phone out of airplane mode will not affect a thing.

Well, I'd guess that the pre-board scammers are all trying to get seats next to each other. That doesn't make it right, but it makes a little bit more sense than a single flyer paying to get on early. But then, I would never scan the system, nor would I waste that money. Hence, that's why I was asking the question.

Hmmm, I doubt many people are buying that BS fare just for the free drink. While I too have had drinks skipped on a recent flight due to unrealized turbulence, I agree more that safety and organization is more important. As much as I enjoy a free Coke Zero, it's only satisfying if it makes it into my stomach and doesn't end up on my jeans.

Confused...we already get a combination of paid flight credit and spending credit. That's what the 125,000 point value is. Or you can get there with 100 paid flights, regardless of the point value.

It's okay. It's not any colder. But like flying in the front row, you lose a good tray and it's harder to reach your gear under the seat. Usually, I'll sit farther back, since I assume that 12B will be taken, and would prefer having an empty seat next to me vs. in front of me. I guess I'm wider than I am long. 🙂

I'm kinda thinking that seniors are most likely the ones who cost the company the MOST on the CP. Being retired, both people can fly on every flight, and each one will be booked on WGA fares. Meaning: MUCH lower profit. That being said, I do think it would be quite a fair trade to allow for concurrent boarding. Even with A-list for both, my companion and I having to board separately is a hassle. Oh well, that's the nature of the business. At least we have a full year to figure it out.

Curious...why DID you pay $40 for early boarding? All the seats are the same size and go to the same place. All the checked bags do too, and are free. All of the seats either have a window, an aisle, or the use of two armrests. For a flight that can cost less than $100, I'd find little reason for a 40% upcharge.

In comparison to EVERY other airline....where you get exactly 0 credit for your cancelled ticket? I'd say it's pretty customer friendly. Can you imagine the negative ramifications of letting people book and cancel flights ad nauseum, while accumulating the credits and rolling them over in perpetuity? Think about it for a while.

If you try to rebook on the app, all you have to do is click on your flight (or any other) and it'll show you the price difference. So it's only one more click to know what you paid. Easier than digging up a reservation IMHO.
