I had the same experience - 4 different travel funds expiring 9/7. I booked 2 flights with the funds and then canceled the flights, but the funds retained the original expiration date of 9/7. Really frustrating that there isn't an exception to this rule, since we are still in a pandemic and all.
I do have a flight already booked for June, which I'd booked with points. I was going to cancel the flight, and rebook it with travel funds + points. But you can't use points with travel funds. And you can only use 3 methods of payment, so if I used the 2 highest amounts of travel funds, I would have to pay the rest with money, since I can't use points for the balance.
I guess I will let mine expire 9/7 and hope they'll grant some kind of extension or something.

However, there was one change that did catch my eye. AL and ALP now receive free same day confirmed changes. In the past, it was just same day standby. To me, this is a fair major plus. Yay!
Where did you see this? I only read this was for WGBP fares... for everyone.

@sean4linda Simplest advice I can give you is get anyone age 13+ who may travel with you their own KTN. It's good for 5 years and well worth the initial hassle, even for an infrequent traveler..

I'm still clueless as to why people buy business select seats. For the money, you could likely get a first class seat on another airline. I like Southwest, and I realize that "all seats on Southwest are first class", but still...

I've done this (and have taken advantage of the Costco deal). I personally think that it is worth it as long as you understand what it means and accept the extra work (like checking in on many different reservations) as a result.
Other than the boarding groups/checking-in situation though, there is really not a big difference between booking everyone on one reservation compared to on more than one reservation.
Safe travels, and enjoy Cancun! Have fun, be safe, and be smart!

If you're just using Slack, the connection *should* be adequate given that there are no major disruptions in service.
Connection is intermittent but this should not have a significant impact when using applications like Slack.
If you're ever dissatisfied with your inflight wifi purchase, let Customer Service know and they would be happy to make it right!
I think that it's worth a shot - try out the wifi and see how you like it!
Safe travels!

Hi!
Southwest usually compensates passengers for delays that resulted from incidents like this.
You're lucky in that you may have been one of the few passengers who would witness something like this, as this is not something that Southwest is known for. Don't let a single outlier experience affect your overall view of the company. People aren't perfect, and sometimes, things like this do happen.
I'm sure Southwest will follow up on this issue and appropriate action will be taken. You are right in that this is not what Southwest is known for.
Safe travels!

Sorry that you felt 'cheated'!
The travel industry is becoming more and more confusing these days. While there may not have been a need to read the fine print before, it's especially important today. If it helps, I think Southwest is the best when it comes to not having their customers feel 'cheated' - out of many carriers from the US, Southwest is the most straightforward through their Transfarency policy and while the name 'Business Select' could be confusing, I'm sure when you were prompted to upgrade, the kiosk listed what you would be getting in return (ie upgraded boarding, drink coupon, 12 points/dollar, etc), not stating anything about seating.
Southwest's customer service is kind of swamped right now so I do not know if you would get a response, but I would recommend emailing them or tweeting them about your experience. While they may not be able to offer compensation, it's always good to reach out (like what you are doing on this forum) and let the company/other travelers know so that they can be informed.

@bwallet- thanks for posting this. I'm just now reading it and it's a good reminder for all of us. I stored these with my drink tickets and just re-discovered them. I was just reminding myself to make the effort to use them (the kick tail awards, not just the drink tickets LOL) . Yes, hoping SWA will send more out.

@gsking- regarding same day standby, your companion doesn't get that benefit if you choose to use it while traveling using CP.
Right. That's why I said it doesn't help with full flights.
But if it's an empty flight, they will give you the seat... then you can add the companion.

A good reminder not to commingle new funds with existing travel funds, especially off they are close to expiry.
Best to split round trips into single legs, too.... Each one can use three forms of payment (6 total for a round trip, instead of 3). More ability to keep funds isolated and improves flexibility in cancellation etc.

What a strange post.
Southwest extended travel funds from customer cancelled flights from March 2020 - September 2020 to September 2022. That's more than two years. Plenty of us have flown numerous times throughout 2020-2021.
IMO, extending benefits even further (i.e. to 2023) is prolonging unnecessary and unfounded fears that we don't need to placate anymore.
It's been over 2 years of this. The pandemic is over. Get your shots and boosters and stay home if you're sick. Or don't. Life needs to go back to how it was before we all became scaredy hypochondriacs and I don't mind dying on this hill.

I hope you enjoy your overpriced flights on the other guys.
BTW you'll be flying with a bunch of unvac'ed passengers -- who outnumber crew by as much as 50 to 1.
Thus since your risk of catching the bug from a fellow passenger is up to 50 times greater than from crew, instead of flying, I suggest you find a kitchen table to hide under.

So good news you can now save frequent travelers and book for them on southwest.com no more needing to look up the family’s information. Hopefully this will expand to the app soon but as of now it is only available on the website.
happy flying!

You mean "full flight", not "overbooked flight". They are different things.
A full flight just means people want to fly, and aren't afraid of it. People like me who have flown the entire pandemic and never caught Covid in a plane, but instead caught it on the ground... twice. The second time after the vaccine.
So really... flying is the least of your worries right now.

Did you ever get this resolved? I am having a similar issue I checked for my companion pass on Jan 6th and nothing. I never got any emails that I registered sucessfully and I never got an acknowledgment that I completed my roundtrip after October 16th. I called today and was put on hold while they researched for about 15 minutes. When they came back online, she said that I was not eligible because I never registered between 9/7 and 9/9. I am 100% certain that I registered for the promotion on 9/9 and booked my flight at 11:30pm that evening right before it ended. There was no point in arguing with her, it's my word against hers, but since I found this thread, it seems like I am not the only one that had this issue. Thanks

The post containing the link was made in 2021 not 2022.

it isn't "HIPPA", its "HIPAA". And, its not against the law to ask on the basis of HIPAA since Southwest is not a covered entity and does not have "protected health information" or "PHI".
Please refrain from making comments on items that are not known to you.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but you are showing your lack of information quite boldly. First, it is not "HIPPA", it is "HIPAA". And, Southwest is not a healthcare provider so they have no "protected health information" or PHI in their records. So, my advice is to read a few articles and brush up on what you are talking about. For myself, I enjoy the preboarding. It is a nice policy.

The wording is "no more than 1 day before you travel" and is no longer based on a number of hours. This means for flights departing anytime Saturday, a test taken anytime Friday would suffice. The exact wording from the CDC: "The 1-day period is 1 day before the flight’s departure. The Order uses a 1-day time frame instead of 24 hours to provide more flexibility to the air passenger and aircraft operator. By using a 1-day window, test acceptability does not depend on the time of the flight or the time of day that the test sample was taken. For example, if your flight is at 1pm on a Friday, you could board with a negative test that was taken any time on the prior Thursday." https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html --TheMiddleSeat

Make sure you aren't checking bags. I always find it a bit wonky when I fly standby on SWA, I'll get my confirmation of change but always seem to get called to the desk at the gate just prior to boarding, "to make sure I'm there?"

I’ve flown my qualifying segments as of 10/31/21 and had 4 different SW reps tell me I’ve qualified for A List renewal for ‘22. Yet, my account has not been updated to reflect it. Just this morning, I was told that they see in my record that I’ve qualified, but that no one’s will show up until a system-wide update on 12/31. Obviously, that’s false based on what some have written on this thread. I’m concerned because I have one more (expensive!) flight in ‘21 I can convert from a points to a paid business class fare to qualify. The rep this morning said I “absolutely do not need to do that.” Thoughts from those more experienced than I in dealing with Southwest?
