Have tried about 4 times and have only worked 1 time, so far even free has been frustrating. I have several more flights in the upcoming months I will see if I have any better luck.
So far:
- The search doesn't work for me in the app or on-line I have to get info from phone or "X";
- PDX 1st time, loved if was able to get snacks for flight right past security very easy; Flew in/out of midway and they did not have any places
- PDX 2nd time, got screen shot from X and one place said they don't take it; One place closed due to new airport remodel, one place was in a different terminal and only alcohol, was looking for food; Was not able to use it on the outbound flight
- DEN - again got screen shot of places from X; Double checked with them that places took pass and they confirmed; Walked way out of the way to go to the one in the terminal I was in (opposite direction of gate but had a lot of time) was planning on getting breakfast, got to the place after a long walk and it was closed, was 9:30 am; Checked back with PP Support on X and they said was supposed to be open at 6 am and I told them it was not;
Don't know what happened. Not able to use it again.
So out of 4 1 way trips, I have been able to use it 1 time for snacks;

The changes don't go into effect until next year. I'd just be patient and see what information comes out in September at the investor's meeting or by year end. I could be 100% wrong (wouldn't be the first time - haha), however, I'm sure they are aware of the "perks" they offer on the credit card (such as upgraded boarding) and have already considered what that could be replaced with under the new operating structure.
Note: Chase will flag your account as an account that received a credit and be less apt to assist in the future if you have an actual problem, because they can see you already received the credit (they won't care the "why"). So I'd use it sparingly.

I am faced with the same issue and tried to get the reservation resent and it never came through. Luckily I don't need to cancel my reservation and just wanted to confirm it before going to the hotel. I spent hours waiting on the phone for them and never was able to speak to a representative. This is truly bad and i will NEVER book hotels with southwest again. I called the hotel and they have my reservation. I am praying that all goes well and I don't end up getting charged again or that when I get there it get cancelled. What a mess. I could have gotten my stay for a cheaper price elsewhere too but counted on the points which I was promised and now already know that was a total scam. NEVER AGAIN!!!
Hello-
Sorry to hear you've had issues with receiving your Confirmation details. As a fellow traveler, try calling the listed concierge number again via the Southwest Hotels website but at a different time of day and/or day of the week. It's likely when you called, they had a high call volume and could not take your call but they do respond.
Note as general advice that both email and text communications are not foolproof and I've had times when legitimate emails/texts I'm expecting do not reach my inbox as they sometimes get mistakenly filtered or blocked by security software.
As a remedy to this and this goes for any reservation from any provider whether be hotels, air travel, and even online food delivery orders: Always take a screenshot and/or save the confirmation page on the web page before closing the window. In the case of Southwest Hotels, that would be the "You're All Set page" and the PDF receipt from that page. Yes, I agree it would be nice for upcoming SW Hotels/Booking.com reservations to appear on my SW Rapid Rewards account profile for ease of access (I think that would doable under an agreement with Booking.com) but the screenshot or saving-the-page solution is the alternative we have as travelers for now.

So is there no reason to get in standby line early? It prevents an easy same day change, which is obviously preferred.

Seems kind of lame. So, if you book a flight during the promotional period, but before you have the companion pass, can you add a companion afterwards? Seems like the flight could fill up and then you are not able to add them. *sigh*

Yeah, I figured there could be situations where on THEIR part they have to honor the ticket flying separately. I’d assume it would take a lot of hoop jumping on the back end to make it legit.
i had to get off a flight early one time and made sure I bought my companion her own ticket ahead of time for the final leg.
Let’s hope I never have to endure similar complexity again.

I completely get what you are saying bbland. I feel the same way. I have several pieces of luggage for differing situations. Seems most of the replies don't get it.
One specific situation is a carryon for Southwest, i.e. 24x16x10. I actually have an older travelpro but it is not a spinner, just a two-wheeler. Harder to pull and definitely won't roll down the aircraft aisle, like a spinner that you can turn sideways. Its green, which unfortunately sometimes deceives the boarding agent and I have to prove it meets their rules by putting it in the sizer and they are astonished that it is perfectly sized, wheels and all. The wheels are somewhat recessed. It would be too big for other airlines and international. I bought it in an online clearance sale 5 years ago and not seen one since.
The best alternative would be the Travelpro Crew VersaPack Max Carry-on Rollaboard Spinner. It is 55 Liters interior volume vs the one that another responder suggested (49L) and half the cost at $200. It is 23x15.5x10 (or 2" thicker if you expand it, which I have found to be just fine, especially in the MAX 737's). That's including wheels, etc. So you are still not getting the maximum size for southwest, but awfully close. Very stable and easy to roll. I ditched the interior folding board for extra space.
https://travelpro.com/collections/standard-carry-on-luggage-and-suitcases/products/crew%E2%84%A2-versapack%E2%84%A2-max-carry-on-expandable-rollaboard%C2%AE?variant=20372015284322
There are actually a couple of 24x16x10 carryons I have found online, but they are cheap and cant possibly match the travelpro quality.

After 4 flights in 2 days which each had over 25 pre-boarders- I'm over it. And breaking news states that SW has increased the maximum charge for earlybird check-in and upgraded boarding ( up to $149!). That will surely increase the number of pre-boarders.
Also- SW policy regarding saving of seats ( they don't officially have one) has also been put out there on social media and now abused.
Between the 2 policies- the abuse has gotten out of control.
I used to like no assigned seating - but now I wish that Southwest had pre-assigned seating.

I've been waiting for years for Southwest to look into flying to Canada, as SWA is my preferred airline (almost all flights I've ever taken have been with them). Been across the country, been international now by air. First country ever traveled to outside the US was Canada by car, but mostly in the East. There are many different places to see in Canada. For entertainment/leisure, I would visit the following:
British Columbia: Vancouver
Alberta: Edmonton, Calgary Saskatchewan: Regina Manitoba: Winnipeg Ontario: Toronto, Ottawa, London, Sault Ste. Marie Quebec: Montreal, Quebec (City) Nova Scotia: Halifax There are several others I would drive to for CHL games (including Hamilton, Kamloops, Saskatoon, etc.) but I would fly into these other cities. I'm sure for other people, there are probably some rural and rustic places to visit in the prairies out west and maybe some coastal areas, but these are the places I would like to see flights into from Southwest.
One issue is that Southwest can only take bookings in USD while flying in Canada would require accepting CAD - it’s an IT issue, not any lack of interest.

Yeah not a good deal. You only get 1 cent per point plus you pay taxes.
Using points only gets you over about 1.3 cents per point, plus no taxes.
Nope.

Southwest long ago figured out that open seating is the fastest way to get everyone on a plane. Fastest boarding means quicker plane turns - which allows more flights/gate/day and more flights/plane/day -- which in turns mean more profit and potential for lower fares for everyone.

If you read the entire post you would know that after the woman put dog under seat as directed she never opened carrier again. She originally was comforting dog because it was crying. The dog let out a whimper and that was the initial decision to remove her. Southwest is basing their decision on what the flight crew reported. They did not reach out to any other passengers. If you did a true follow up you would know they had warned her about dog crying that if it continues they would remove her. Then said it was because she opened carrier which she had not.

Costco has the SW airlines gift cards on sale again, $449.99 for $500 gift card!
@jcusackjr Thanks for the tip!
I checked it out and my Costco also showed an additional $20-off e-delivery on top of the $50-off deal for today. That added up to 14%-off my next $500 worth of Southwest flights in addition to any Southwest %-off or low-fare promos.
SOLD!
Travel Tip: Most Gift Cards are delivered within 1-2 hours of purchase but could take up to 24-48 hours of processing time for the e-delivery. Keep those redemption codes in a safe place so nobody else uses them. I store these and any flight credit confirmation codes securely in a password manager.

I assume this self-serve feature will remain in place until I check into the flight per the message header (as A-List which comes with Priority Boarding, I'm assuming that will be the 36-hour mark for me). I will confirm all this as I get closer to my departure date and will let you know when the feature times out to make the change online; after that point, a Southwest CSA should still be able to accommodate you.
@bec102896 is correct.
As I have a flight tomorrow that has this feature, I was able to confirm that at both the T36 mark (Automatic A-List Priority Boarding Check-In) and at T24 (Agree to the terms and get boarding Pass), this feature does not expire or "go away" at either of these points; thus this is available from the time the change takes place until 10-minutes prior to departure.

I had to do this once, and had to buy my companion a ticket for the last leg I couldn't fly.
I notified the gate agent and they STILL looked for me on the plane.
And I lost the flight credits.
As noted, don't do this unless you plan to carry your bag on and it's saving you A LOT of money.

I've noticed that Airbus seats seem to be wider, for what it's worth. But to me they are very hard and uncomfortable. And the seat pitch in some seats is SO tight, they don't even put a full tray on the seat back. You literally can't put a laptop on it.
At 6'2", I find SWA seats to be plenty confirms comfy.

You cannot, under the law, require a preboard passenger to be delayed at exiting the plane. In fact, it would be more logical for them to exit the plane before anyone else.
Keeping a passenger on the plane against their will would result in a lawsuit for illegal detention and arrest.
