And likewise, many of that same vast majority doesn't understand statistics and risk. 70% of the vaccinated people don't want to be around unvaccinated people? How many of THOSE would still want everyone tested? And to still wear a mask? I'm sure a few do... because that lowers the risk that much more. (How much they couldn't tell you... but I'm sure they think it's more than the infinitesimal amount it is). The fringe on BOTH sides aren't working with facts. I'm vaccinated and I couldn't care less about what other people do. The chance of them affecting me is too small for me to worry about. And I'm certainly not going to demand masked flight attendants be vaccinated, as if they're a particularly critical group. Social contracts don't need to be that restrictive. A large percentage of health care workers decided to avoid vaccination. Y'all should take your pickaxe to their doors first. Or maybe consider their logic before you claim you're smarter than they are. Ps...be sure to kick a toddler out of the way tomorrow. They aren't vaccinated. How dare they show their chubby faces in public!

If you're vaccinated and worried about getting personally sick, you're not being rational. You're more likely to get struck by lightning than dying of Covid... not to mention the regular flu. Median age of breakthrough cases is 74. And if you assume anyone wheezing is both not vaccinated AND has Covid, you're making more leaps of faith. So yeah, best stay home. By my math, you'll never feel safe enough outside in the world. Get HBO and Doordash and call it good.

Exactly. Some Animals are more equal than other Animals. They'll get free internet and more reward points. Only loss of revenue to SWA. There's no reason to think they'll get HIGHER boarding than anyone who got Preferred organically.

Lol...boo hoo hoo. Someone else took your bin because you forgot to use free checked bags. And everyone else deserves a middle seat except you. Well, at least 33% of the passengers. That's a hoot! Thanks for making my Friday morning more enjoyable with your comedy stylings. Much appreciated for the jocular trollery. Enjoy your weekend!

Yeah, true. I agree with you there... not a really good topic to have started. But the tone of the note was "just do what you're told", which runs counter to my mantra. Especially when those telling us contradict themselves, don't obey their own rules, and forget that telling people to get vaccinated so they can take their mask off... and then reneging on that reward... doesn't make people want to get vaccinated. No carrot, all stick. And they wonder why so many people are fed up.

I'm not arguing with your anger. In fact, I understand your position and see your logic. Nor am I defending the airline. I'm just telling you the facts. As noted, SWA is not legally liable for your problems. If it were, your airfare would be much more expensive to cover these types of claims.

Yep, that's pretty much how it works. You can argue that anyone or anything is liable for your lost wages, or a missed opportunity at winning the lottery, or pain and suffering and loss of consortium from missing a night with your wife. But those numbers aren't visible to Southwest airlines.... did you plan to show them a pay stub? Or do they just take your word for it? There's the generally (perhaps legally via contract of carriage) accepted minimum the airline must provide you for the canceled flight. Beyond that, you'll likely need a lawyer. So that's why there's "only so much the agent can do for you".
I understand your frustration, but it seems that you indeed want more out of them than they can provide. While I'm not sure why you didn't get the cancelation notification (which seems very unusual), they can't do much more than give you a new flight and perhaps compensation for the room. Lost wages and rental car seem beyond reasonable expectations.

Fair enough on the ICU bed capacity. That's a great metric to use... it's much more objective than "a busy travel season". And many of us who spend more time flying than monitoring the bed availability in Oregon or Texas don't see that side of it. Some of us wear a mask... and have had Covid... and have been vaccinated. So we're a bit less worried. Again, it's not the issue of masking directly. It's the poor messaging, the apparently capricious decision making, and the otherwise condescending tone of the process. "We have to extend this mandate until X >Y and we understand the confusion" is better than "Just because we said so and you're a jerk" . At least that's what my mom taught me. Keep in mind the President even said you wouldn't have to wear a mask if you're vaccinated. If that's not the pinnacle of mixed messaging, I don't know what is. But he's good as it. And I feel sorry for the two women I got stuck between last night who certainly thought I had Covid. No, it was the sprint between Vegas terminals after SW changed my flight time and didn't notify me that boarding had commenced. My apologies. Man, that mask sucks for heavy aerobic exercise.

Well, then are you suggesting ICU capacity be considered as a metric for FAA masking,? Okay. What level is acceptable?

Aha, right. The busy season. By that logic, we'll be wearing masks on planes forever. Mark my words they'll extend it in January... probably saying travel has stayed high. My point exactly.

I think the stupidity is picking arbitrary dates without justification or metrics. What's magic about next winter? A better approach would be to determine an acceptable level of infection or transmission or whatever and using that as the goal post. Some municipalities do this with their mask mandates and other restrictions and at least it takes a bit of politics out of it and replaces it with the proverbial "science". But I realize this is expecting a lot more reason and rationale than the powers that be have shown so far.

Don't bother. It won't be worth it, assuming it's even possible. I don't think is. The best reason to get the SW card is to get the sign up bonus miles at the beginning of the year to get your companion pass. Then one person flies free. International travel and miles is best served by other airlines.

All you get is increasingly improved boarding position, but never higher than A -15. And each dollar you spend earns you about 20% back in points (WGA fare for A list preferred). Keeping that requires 1 flight a week. 2 flights a week will keep your CP, unless you have the credit card.

If you're vaccinated, and you are worried that the fight attendants are vaccinated, but you forgot that the rest of the passengers are NOT necessarily vaccinated, I can deduce that you haven't really thought through your risk situation very well at all. Please fly another airline. I don't want to run the risk of being seated next to you and have to hear your whining.

Exactly. And the cost is about on par with the value of points, so it's not a big risk or waste (last time I checked)

If it's only gone to three airports in a week, it's not on the same plane anymore. Someone has it... and it isn't likely a SW employee. So I'm not sure what they can do. It's also been charged several times. What does your lock screen say? Can someone get in touch with you? What will notifying your company do? Not fly on them anymore? This sounds a bit confusing.

So you're twice as likely to be reinfected if you've had Covid vs the vaccine? What's the odds with the vaccine? Hmm, they don't really say. Funny how that works. Is it 1%? So it doubles to 2%? Should I shudder in fear? In both cases, they say you won't get serious symptoms anyways. Again, what's the line in the sand? When do you need a second vaccine because your first wasn't good enough.? If I'm told to get vaccinated (again) because there's a 99% chance I won't get the sniffles, I'm not agreeing with your logic and acceptance of risk. Because the next guy will be ever more paranoid and he'll demand a booster shot every month.

I agree with what you're saying.. more vaccines means less transmission. But the demand for ALL flight attendants to be vaccinated is indeed a 100% demand. Which is what the OP wants. But that demand doesn't provide the 100% protection he or she thinks it will. So it's just another very slight improvement in overall safety, with no real impact on personal safety since concerned people are already vaccinated. So we have to draw the line in the sand somewhere at where we want to impose strict regulations. I don't see the rationale for making flight attendants unique... especially since they're around MASKED people in a ventilated environment. If they're forced to be vaccinated, why not force everyone to be vaccinated to fly? And then why not everyone period? Slippery slopes and all that.

Are you certain? Yes, points you buy directly do not count towards companion. But points from Southwest hotel rewards DO count. So if you "pay more, earn more", and you're correct, some of the points are qualifying and some aren't. That seems more confusing and unlikely than having all the earned points qualify.
