Could be, but I'm thinking a lot of people are just renewing their normal license and not opting to get a REAL ID, because it costs more and you have to jump through so many hoops documentation-wise to get it. In early 2020 before things hit the fan, articles were saying that millions of Americans did *not* have REAL IDs yet, only about 3 in 10 did. (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/real-id-deadline-us-airports-worried-millions-of-americans-wont-have-required-identification-card/) I mean I was one of those millions back then, so things could have changed, but I'm doubting it's improved that much. I'm waiting for this to become "an issue" whenever it finally gets implemented. You know there are going to be some people saying "...but I didn't know!!" when they get can't go through TSA to catch their Southwest flight ;D --Jessica

You need to make a special appointment to do it, and you need to bring multiple documents verifying stuff. If a passport is the best id, shouldn't that be enough to get a real id driver's license? Oh yeah, I agree. You have to bring several pieces of documentation verifying who you are. When I got my REAL ID and saw that the only thing different about it was the star in the corner, I was like "That's it?" but I think the reason it is so secure is because you have to prove you are who you say you are in a myriad of ways when you apply to get it. --Jessica

A negative sign means that the flight is that many points less than when you booked it with points. A plus sign means that the flight is that many points more. If you change your flight (booked with points) to one that has less points, you will be refunded those points immediately once you reconcile the flight. This should be obvious as you go through the flight reconciliation and complete the transaction. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for your balance to adjust once you are finished. --Jessica

Curious to know everyone's stance on REAL IDs, as the rollout process has been ongoing for years and the deadline for compliance keeps getting pushed back. I remember having REAL IDs on my radar since 2018. Back then, my state (PA) was still not issuing REAL IDs and I was in a panic because they were set to be enforced that October. My passport was also expiring in 2018, and thankfully I got that renewed - and then they pushed back the REAL ID compliance deadline. I forget how many times they pushed it back, but I know October 2020 was another deadline, and because of the pandemic they pushed it to October 2021, and this year they pushed it all the way back to May 2023. My license expires Dec 2021, so I -finally- got my hands on a REAL ID when I renewed. Feels like it took forever, while some people have probably had them for years and never gave it a second thought. If you have not gotten a REAL ID yet, do you plan to before the deadline? It's hard to tell how many people have gotten REAL IDs and how many have not or don't care / don't want to pay the extra fees / etc. One of the main reasons I wanted one was due to flying; I don't want to carry my passport around with me on domestic flights if I don't have to. While calling is still the preferred method that Southwest recommends to resolve resolutions, there are alternate methods. I am surprised they could not help you on Facebook messenger. I have an ongoing DM with Southwest on Twitter and whenever I have a problem with a flight I pull up the message and write my latest inquiry - I always get a response that way - and almost always same day, if not within hours. They've changed my flights numerous times - but always in advance of the flight, I have never tried it en route or within 24 hours of a flight. --Jessica

This is impossible to predict, flights prices fluctuate due to a variety of factors, and COVID has only exasperated that (but things are slowly - but surely - returning to some level of normalcy compared to 2020). My only advice would be if you see a price you are happy with, book it now - if you see that the flight price goes down, you can rebook the flight (at no charge!) and the difference in fare will be given as a travel credit to use later. I do this all the time. --Jessica

Seems odd. Were you logged into Southwest when you made your purchase? Do you see your flight under "My Upcoming Trips" in your account? Did you receive a confirmation e-mail? If the answer is "no" to all the above, my guess is that your purchase did not actually go through and your pending charge is going to drop off after a few days. If your charge is processed though, contact Southwest and explain the situation. If you were charged, you have to have tickets, otherwise Southwest will have no choice but to refund you. --Jessica

Just found out that PHL is never going to reopen the economy lot. They are going to use the space for "expanded cargo services." https://www.inquirer.com/business/philadelphia-international-airport-economy-parking-lot-closed-thanksgiving-travel-20211104.html This is a horrible move and it's going to come back and bite them. The economy lot has 7,000 spaces and there were times in the past when it was completely full. What are passengers supposed to do now? JuSt taKe An UbEr is not something just anyone can do (one way averages $60 for me) and jUsT tAkE SePtA (aka the train) isn't reliable either because the trains don't run 24/7. They are recommending arriving to the airport "3 hours in advance" Thanksgiving week to try to get a parking spot in the long term parking garages. Absurd. Something is going to give. --Jessica

Per Southwest: Preboarding is available for Customers who have a specific seating need to accommodate their disability and/or need assistance in boarding the aircraft or stowing an assistive device. If a Customer with a disability simply needs a little extra time to board, we will permit the Customer to board before Family Boarding, between the “A” and “B” groups. Those Customers who need extra time to board will receive a new boarding pass with an extra time designation. The designation serves as notification to our Operations (boarding) Agent that the Customer should be permitted to board before Family Boarding. We will allow one travel companion to act as an “attendant” and preboard with a Customer with a disability. In most cases, the Customer requires assistance from only one other person, and any additional family members or friends are asked to board with their assigned group. Customers should request preboarding from our Customer Service Agent at the ticket counter or departure gate. Our Agents are trained to ask fact-finding questions to determine if the Customer meets the qualifications described above. Those Customers who qualify for preboarding will receive a new boarding pass with a preboarding designation. The designation serves as notification to our Operations (Boarding) Agent that the Customer should be permitted to preboard. It's important to keep in mind that Customers who preboard may not occupy an exit seat. Note: Customers who are preboarding because of a need for a specific seat onboard the aircraft should speak with the Operations (Boarding) Agent prior to the start of preboarding to alert the Agent to the seating need. If Southwest cancelled your flight (and it was not a cancellation you made yourself) and you did not fly then you are certainly entitled to a refund there - but since you were rebooked and flew, any rebooking that Southwest had to do should for you should not have made you pay any difference in fare. I would definitely contact Southwest about this issue using one of the Contact Us methods below and explain the situation to them. --Jessica

Did you book the flights after you received (and accepted) the offer? Most promotions require that you book and fly after you accept the offer, and flights that you booked before you accepted the offer don't count, even if you fly during the offer period. It's possible that this promo is exempt from that rule, but most are not. --Jessica

Getting a test or COVID vaccine to fly has never once been a thing in the United States *unless* you are traveling from Hawaii into the US. I think it's just something that people are assuming they need, because I mean for goodness sake, last year you could have gotten in "trouble" if you literally drove across certain state lines for awhile. --Jessica

@jperez0305 wrote: Their open seating is the lamest idea I have seen in a while. That's what they do on public buses, not planes smh. Tell me you know nothing about Southwest, without telling me you know nothing about Southwest. Lamest idea you've seen "in awhile"? Southwest has had an open seating policy for 50 years - probably longer than you have been alive. This whole story doesn't make one lick of sense - i.e. "there wasn't even a seat for my infant" - what? Since when do infants have their own seats? Aren't children under 2 years old considered "lap children" and don't need their own seat (meaning they don't require a ticket which means they are free, by the way). There must have been a seat, because your child apparently was in one, but why was your child not even sitting next to you!? Was he/she fussing next to complete strangers during the duration of the flight?! And if he/she was - is this a joke? What is wrong with you, Parent?! I simply don't believe that *no one* on the flight would have accommodated at least one of the parents to sit next to a *not even 2 year old child*. Ridiculous. I don't believe a word of it. --Jessica

No, if your travel fund is $250 and your flight is $200, there's no way to only use $150 of your travel fund and put $50 on a credit card, for example. All of your travel funds will be used up to the travel fund amount. You could always go up to an Anytime or Business Select fare, which costs more, if you wanted to use up your travel fund and pay for the rest with a CC. Or pick a more expensive WGA flight at a different time, etc. --Jessica

@dfwskier wrote: The downside to using southwest hotels, at least the few times I have done so, is that southwest hotels requires immediate payment with a reservation. This is not true - I book through Southwest almost exclusively for hotels and they always have a "Reserve Now, Pay Later" option for the hotels I want. I never pay for my hotel immediately upon booking, even though that option is a little cheaper overall. But to answer the OP, yes, if you want Rapid Rewards you have to book through https://www.southwesthotels.com/. Look for hotels that offer point bonuses - I got an 8,000 bonus offer once a few years ago, didn't pay anything extra for it! Sometimes you'll get 1,000-2000 point offers, but a lot of times your point earnings is 1:1, so if your hotel cost $250, you get 250 points. Still worth it to me, a lot of my RR points come from hotel stays (except when I go to Vegas since I have casino loyalty there, lol). --Jessica

@blsinmd wrote: Yep, tried that. Since the email I received 2/3 stating my boost points arrived my points increased by 1,960 per the prior statement, Sept 2020. 1,960 points were for 4 flights 1,786 and shopping points of 174 and the same after. Flights, credit card and shopping points. Due to inactivity it's easy to see. The 2/3/21 email stated I should have received the following and it doesn't show, none of it. •15,000 tier qualifying points (TQPs)* •25,000 Companion Pass qualifying points (CPQPs)* •10 qualifying flight credits toward A-List and A-List Preferred •25 qualifying flight credits toward Companion Pass You are not going to see the "boost" points on a statement or in your points history on Southwest. You will see them in your Southwest account by looking at your flights flown and/or your points progress as shown here: The boost was automatically added to your flight and points totals. I certainly did not fly 26 / 41 times this year - the "10 / 25" flights were awarded to me because of the boost, and the same is true of the points boost. You can learn more about this here: https://www.southwest.com/RRCoronavirusUpdates/ The only stipulation for the boost was that you needed to be a Rapid Rewards member on or before December 30, 2020, to get the boost for 2021. If you joined Rapid Rewards in 2021, the boost is not applicable for you. --Jessica

I can almost always get a window or aisle seat somewhere in the first 10-15 rows even with a B or C boarding position (once I was in the late Cs and got a row 2 seat) - I typically like to sit around the wing, but it's OK if I don't. --Jessica

Rule of thumb with checked bags: never pack anything valuable. Always put valuables in your carryon. That aside, I'm not sure why Southwest would still take your bags to Buffalo when your flight was cancelled and you were not going on a new flight to Buffalo. Did you get confirmation that your bag made it to Buffalo? Did you file a lost baggage report? You should be able to follow up on the status of your bag with that. Cancelled flights - they happen. Especially in the middle of a pandemic when few things are guaranteed. It's possible that you can get to your final destination via a different connection path and not wait 2 days, but you'd have to talk to a Southwest rep either at the airport or via one of the contact methods to see what is possible. --Jessica
