I am certain that the plaintiff class will ask for compensatory and punitive damages in addition to actual damages. By the time that this is done, there goes $100MM.
Like I said earlier, I predicted this over a week ago. This will be a game-changer.

This action is expected and is part of their right in our society. I suspect that the class will be certified by the judge and the case move forward.
To join the class, check with the attorney filing the complaint. That attorney will tell you how to become part of the class. From there, you will get updates on the case.
I predicted that this would happen over a week ago. If you consider the number of passengers impacted and multiply that by some nominal amount, you end up with some pretty large numbers.
Class action lawsuits change behavior of organizations. Sometimes, it is the only way you are going to motivate them to change. That is our society's remedy and I expect a settlement before the 4th of July.

This board does not require that you have a flight scheduled in the past 24, 48 or 72 hours to make a contribution.
If you want to sit around and wait for lost luggage, hope it finds you, hope that we have world peace, please do so. For others, I suggest that the file a claim for lost luggage.

No it is not too soon. The airlines has a duty to care for your bags if you surrender them. The legal term is "bailment".
So, if you do not have your bag declare it lost and file a claim. Let Southwest do what they should have done which is to upgrade their outdated system and flush the lost luggage out of the woodwork.
Shameful.

Family boarding occurs after A and before B. If you already have A boarding, use that.
Family boarding first requires that a passenger be under seven years of age (six and under) and then, with that individual, up to two adults can accompany the child on the plane (if you are using family boarding between A and B.
Southwest defines an adult to be someone of legal age at the time of departure, generally 18. Despite some of the scientific contributions made on this board, Southwest does not regard a 9, 11, 13 year old to be an "adult".

It is not really "family boarding". The process is like this:
When an individual under the age of seven (six and under) is on the flight, you can have UP TO TWO ADULTS board with that individual.
So, for family boarding to activate, you must have an individual under the age of seven.
Since you have two under the age of seven, up to two adults can board per individual under the age of seven.

Keep in mind that asking for a refund and compensation for damages are not the same. There is a large question being raised right now if Southwest is going to be liable for damages given the scope of the disaster.
I am not a lawyer, but when you knowingly enter into business with people and you know your system is deficient, you have exposure that because you knew the risks, you should have been more prepared. The legal community will argue that Southwest should have exercised reasonable caution and had better systems.

I love how Southwest tries to downplay the recent mess by posting a message about a "travel disruption" on their web site.
I am certain if you ask any of the people impacted by this "disruption" they would choose other words like DISASTER or other choice words.
Southwest should admit their mistakes and stop trying to use neutral words like "disruption" to explain their mess.

It is beyond sad that no one from Southwest has bothered to make an announcement on the web page or to customers who were adversely impacted by the recent mess.
Having to stumble across this information on the blog reflects poorly on Southwest.

And, by the way, no one is "stuck" in C boarding group. These people purchased tickets on Southwest KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THERE ARE NO ASSIGNED SEATS. Now, they want to rearrange the airline policy and present as a needy family needing an accommodation.
There are plenty of other airlines that give you seating choices where you can all sit together. To come here and whine to this board about family boarding is absolute nonsense.
No one is "stuck" - you have plenty of choices.

There is no gray area here. After the last discussion, I called Southwest (when their phones still worked) and presented the question.
The agent told me that I was CORRECT in that the system requires FIRST AND FOREMOST that you have a child under the age of seven (six and under), then you look for UP TO TWO ADULTS to board with the child.
So, it all comes down to whether there is a child under the age of seven, or not. If so, then that person is paired with not more than two adults. Southwest considers adults to be someone of legal age at their point of departure, or generally 18.
Instead of thinking of this as "family boarding", think of this as "adults who can accompany a child under seven". There is no provision to have ANYONE participate in family boarding unless you have a target individual under the age of seven.
PERIOD - END OF DISCUSSION - PARTY OVER.

Unfortunately, Southwest is not using technology like barcoding that was invented in the 50s that most retailers began using in the 80s. We can only assume because it is easier to do nothing than to spend a dime to update your archaic software systems.
My suggestion to everyone here is that if you do not have you luggage in your hands, file a claim for lost luggage. I don't care if some gate agent is telling you that they're bringing it up to you right now, file the claim.
The website has been changed to add a quick claim for lost luggage. It only took Southwest about 10 days to get that done in the middle of the mess.

You have the right to be heard. You have the right to disagree, as do the other members of this board.
It is important that everyone have the right to express their views. Right now, Southwest is under severe criticism for how they have handled everything related to the last ten days. Other airlines have had a blip, but what has gone on with Southwest is a disaster.
Never have I read a blog board where someone referred to Southwest as "SouthWORST". That is sad.
